Open letter to the developer

I am posting this thread with the hope that someone involved in the development of this game will actually take the time to read it instead of not caring (what I pretty much expect). At this point I have decided to quit STO. My last days have been spent trying to motivate myself to actually log in and play the game. I doubt anyone really is bothered. :)

But the cancel subscription option gave little chance to elaborate on my choice so hence I post.

1. Buggy hell. I don't really understand this one. As a quality engineer in real life I can understand the difficulty of actually keeping bugs out of massive pieces of software. What I do not understand how 1 patch can add so many bugs to the system. And not just small bugs but blatant ones where you just get stuck because a mission type doesn't work.

I am pretty sure the patch notes don't tell the whole story but still it generates the feeling that solved bugs are negligent compared to 'new customizations'. How can there be so much focus on getting in new content compared to fixing problems or regression testing your updates. My quality engineering heart bleeds.

2. Content issues. While Cryptic in general seems to be very much focused on adding new hairstyles and ship colors the actual content is extremely meager. Every rank seems to be a rehash of the previous one where it comes to missions. Even the story mission lack the ability to actually suck me into the game. I can't immerse myself into the universe.

At the highest level content seems to be added but sparingly. I have seen what some RA5 friends of mine can do at highest level and it made me understand why most people have 2-3 characters in the works. There simply isn't enough to do on higher levels and variety is nowhere to be found. The game feels like single player game disguised as an MMO.

3. Balance of skills. In a perfect world all skills you can add something unique to your character. I will freely admit that I had a completely different view of the game when I subscribed. I had this vision of playing a medic for ground missions and perhaps added as support in space.

Nice and all but the ground skills seem to be pretty much useless. If you check out the builds on the forums then it becomes clear fast that 99% of the players have a build focused for the majority or fully on space skills. At RA5 the ground skills become a bit more useful but they still seem to pale in comparison to space skills. The sad thing of this is that playing something like a dedicated medic is not viable. Heck looking at it picking science, engineer or tactical doesn't really matter that much at all. Its all the same gray mass.

4. Paid content. I am pretty sure I will get a 'you don't have to buy' reply to this if at all. But when you have a game that obviously still needs more variety to keep it interesting then why you put stuff like certain races, command decks (Which really do not add anything to the game) or character slots behind a micro payment is beyond me.

I am sad to I quit from STO. I am a big fan of Star Trek (most series :D ) but the game feels too much like a beta that I don't want to pay for playing it.

I hope someone inside Cryptic will take this message somewhere and do something with it. My ego isn't big enough that I expect anything. But heck if I can perhaps set of a snowball towards a better game then I am happy and I may return. For now I sign off and retire :( . If you have been reading all this then I thank you for your attention.
