Idea to Improve Risa System

SystemSystem Member, NoReporting Posts: 178,019 Arc User
Well I went to Risa and apart from a nice view and walking around there is nothing to do!

So what should cryptic do so they can make it interesting?

Here is now an updated list of what ideas we have so far for Risa:

  • more zones within Risa (like popular visiting sites, there are some, go and check: click)
  • a resort with a casino where we can play (maybe all) social mini games (like Dabo, Poker...)
  • a Ktarian mini game (maybe exclusive for Risa) (as seen in the TNG episode "The Game")
  • a vendor and a tailor who sell unique items (like special food and bath clothing we can wear on Risa)
  • some NPC's with quests which took place on Risa
  • Horga'hn's (very important! and nooo dont even think about the C-Store again... ;) ) these wood statue's are literally THE symbol for Risa (would be very nice, if we could buy them at a Risa vendor as a souvenir, to put them on a Display after our vacation)
  • for a little more recognition / optical detail: put the Risa Logo (created by Geoffrey Mandel) on some things (first showed in the VOY episode "Inside Man" on a towel, then as a color version in the Star Trek: Star Charts)
  • make the Risa System more canon, it needs two suns like in this picture, and two moons
  • maybe T-Shirts that have slogans/ Horga'hn logos on them from Risa for casual clothing
  • If User Generated Content is possible in the future, then make it accessible on Risa (the planet known for its freedom, creativity, and relaxation)
  • put in some civilian ships in the orbit of Risa, so that it looks more visited
  • if the game engine and dev time support it, maybe add activites like surfing, fishing, boating, scuba diving, a dancing mini game, or frisbee
  • a buff (maybe called: rested) we get, for staying a certain time (maybe 30 minutes) on the planet, as an example: that buff could give us a little bonus on our health regeneration for one or two hours
  • the commoditie broker Melangogg could sell Weather Control Systems too (which are very popular on Risa)

How to make Risa more visited?

I been advocating for sometime that Risa as well as other worlds like Vulcan and Andoria have mission / quest NPCs there and giving out missions. That would get people to travel there more, than just roleplaying.

Second, more zones within Risa than just the island beach resort. Perhaps and old style MMO Dungeon, with rare drops. After all, there were natives on Risa before it became a resort planet, and surely there is more of their past yet to be revealed.

When Captain Picard went to Risa he ended up getting caught up in having to save reality as we know it. That is what the game lacks, it's too predictable, you go to risa and theres nothing there to do, ya it looks nice, but aside from that, nothing.

ok - so how about constructive feedback and ideas instead?

Well most of my ideas wouldnt pass the PG13 game ratings, after all Risa is supposed to be an adult vacation planet... But even something simple like put a couple NPC quest givers, or make it a breadcrumb waypoint on a longer mission thread.

If they put minigames into STO - instead of press F 5 times - then I would love to see an episode about "The Game" from the ST:NG episode of the same name.

i would imagine that most of the ideas that anyone has floating round in their noggin would be adult in theme as mentioned above. A lot of these Non mission zones seem to be geared towards RP but i would imagine even an RP'er would have trouble occupying their time doing anything other then CYber Sunbathing. Perhaps they could have some quests to do with the weather control system being sabotaged by a disgruntled Klingon getting jealous about his trill mate fllirting with people or something?

quest providers, crafting, BO trainer, games,...anything.

    Risa, Vulcan, Andoria....etc.

I'm just hoping there are plans soon to include stuff. I'm sure there is, it's just in the huge list that they are working on already.

Risa needs naked women/men/other...but I guess the 24th Century is just as sexually hung up as we are :(

Would be good to see nudity in an MMO as just another option for mature players. Of course we would have to ride the wave of MMO streakers for years:)

Risa is Star Trek's version of Las Vegas. So why not have each mini-game developed be playable in a "casino" setting just beyond the beach? This would bring some things to do when on Risa. A mission could be placed there as well, but for general visiting, Risa could be the place to go to relax and play a game of Dabo, Tr-dimensional chess, etc. Do some gambling with your credits!

Nude women or adult-themed stuff won't happen. This is a game for all ages. If a holodeck is brought into the game as requested, maybe there could also be a holodeck to play out Dixon Hill scenarios or something.

You know, as an adult the 'for all ages' argument is getting pretty thin for me in gaming. The idea that innocent children are corrupted by nudity has been proven wrong for millenia. Ancient civilizations did not hide their beautiful nude artwork from young people, and dedicated TRIBBLE seekers of any age will find it no matter how 'clean' we keep our MMO's. I wish people did not mask body shame as 'protecting the innocent.'

Before it gets to be a pRon argument....

Actually what i think it needs is a resort. I didn't come to risa to vacation in a hut....

Swimming pool, bar, casino, the whole works. Including cosplay maids. No wait, i mean serving girls.

All the locations in the game are lacking things to do. You can't do anything on Vulcan or Andor either.

They need to borrow a page from Star Wars Galaxies, and put a number of towns and points of interest for people to visit.

After that, some kind of random encounters could be generated, both favourable and hazardous.

The game is produced in America, where things like nudity are a prime offense in entertainment, far more so than excessive gore. I need only point to most horror movies made here; you can watch people ripped limb from limb in glorious detail, but you'll be lucky to see more than an errant breast. This goes for games, as well. God of War, for example, had only two sets of TRIBBLE readily visible unless you wanted to take a moment to stare at the Gorgons, yet you were constantly impaling and dismembering creatures of all makes and models in sprays of bountiful red fluids.

Honestly I think that whole train of thought is a bit backwards. But alas, nothing with can do about it in the short term. And besides, you remember the Mass Effect debacle? Or how Oblivion got bumped up a whole rating for nipples that weren't even available in game without modding? Or, probably the modern source for the whole sex scare, GTA: San Andreas' "Hot Coffee"?

Cryptic would get torn several new ones if they allowed anything skimpier than the Orion outfits we're getting, is the sad fact...

Vulcan and Andor now have diplomatic missions.

Whats good for SWG isnt here. SWG revolves around those points of interest, its not an 'extra'. And for the most part is playerbased content. Unless you're suggesting these planets become a core game element, its not possible for them to have so much focus in the form of wide expanses of terrain with towns and such. I agree that they still need more features though, especially risa. Like interiors for vulcan, and more missions and vendors.

I'm just saying there should be points of interest to go visit. On Tatooine, you could go see Ben's house, or the Skywalker homestead. There were actual cities (usually pretty deserted). Nothing of particular note was there to DO, except get a badge saying you'd been there.

Examples on Vulcan could include Mount Seleya, T'pol's home, the Vulcan Science Institute, and so on. There wouldn't necessarily need to be anything there to DO (though there could be), it's just that having places to visit would be nice.

Ok fair enough. I thought you wanted cities. Although taking vulcan as an example, arent we at mount seleya already? We do need those rest though.

i would put a mission on there for sure, maybe some form of investigation mission or someone has been murdered or a string of murders and you have to solve it and restore peace.

and at least one mini game, a vendor that sells unique food to make new tribbles and maybe a tailor that only sells casual wear and beach wear.

or in the weekly mission it would be nice to have something like TNG " the Captain vacation " episode

You also did not see nude women in any of the episodes of Star Trek that contained Risa. So nudity would technically not be cannon.

I even agree with this argument as the US is more prudish on nudity thank other countries, but allow as much blood and gore as possible. Ironic if you think about it.. And getting past the censors would be a big hassle. As a result, I believe the most you can do is have scantily clad women instead of nudity.

I agree with this and like this idea as well .At least giving us the ability to beam down and say we were there and see the sites so to speak. I was disappointed that as a Klingon I could not beam down to Rura Pente and see the dilithium mines (maybe even see prisoners mining for them).

Stating my opinion is not particularly trolling. Trolling rests is in the intent to cause contention for the sole purpose of argumentation. I had no such intent, and apologize if you felt Trolled Signalsgt.

I simply found this an appropriate thread within which to voice my lifelong concern with the absurdity of Victorian sexual morals continuing to pervade gaming in societies that claim they value Freedom of Expression above Body Shame/Prudishness.

It is extremely naive to look at the ST episodes involving Risa (and the dialogs indirectly referencing the romances thereupon) and pretend they just played volleyball and took long strolls on the beach. I think it is high past time for gaming to mature and not blush at say, placing a nude statue in my Captains Cabin cast in the shape of a woman my Captain met while there on Risa. Imagine the honor of knowing someone appreciated your natural beauty so much that he sculpted a marble statue to remember you forever.

You were actually serious? While I see your viewpoint and I understand the framework from which you draw your conclusions, it simply is never going to happen in any game that is marketed for kids.

The very LAST thing I need is to be in the middle of ground combat and my 8 year old walk up behind me and ask why I'm punching a naked green woman. Your thought process is best left for coffee table discussions with like minded people while drinking a chi latte with an outstretched pinky.

First of all: I really like this thread! Please spread the word about it people. :)

I think, if there are things to to, the planet becomes much more popular of corse. Fun with friends & fleeties, and relaxing are key. Risa is a very good social / roleplaying zone in a nice tropical enviroment. It's the Star Trek variant of Hawaii. The most popular vacation planets in the whole Federation (with adult stuff happening, but as explained it's an US and family friendly game, so nudity is not going to happen). How could Cryptic make Risa more interesting for us? You guys already postet great ideas for that. Here is the summary of what we have so far:

To add one idea from me to that list:

I really hope they improve the famous planets (not to forget Earth and our Solar System) fast, because i think this issue is important for a lot of players, like the ship interiors. For me i can say: it is. It brings a lot for our immersion and the roleplaying aspect.

PS: and please stop the flaming people, it really helps no one.

Horga'hn's cannot be used. They might be misconstrued as an overtly sexual fertility symbol and your 8 year old might ask awkward questions about why you are just sitting in your Captain Cabin staring at you Horga'hn strangely. Heavens forbid if you had to teach your kids about sexuality before their school does it for you so you don't get awkwardly embarrassed. But I better drop my open minded opinion before I upset someone who supports hiding them TRIBBLE :(

On non adult notes, I guess mini-games and places to go would be nice. Maybe T-Shirts that have slogans/ Horga'hn logos on them from Risa for casual clothing?
