Romulan Faction suggestions

SystemSystem Member, NoReporting Posts: 178,019 Arc User
If there was a Romulan Faction coming down the pike (which I hope there is as the next one), what would you like to see? Ships? Missions? Task Forces? Playable races in that faction (Romulans, Remans, etc)?

I will post my own suggestions as a reply, but thought I'd start this up. If this has been discussed elsewhere, I welcome the pointer. I just did not see anything in a brief search.

I will go ahead and link to this thread: have not made it all the way through it yet.

I would love to see missions of this sort:
    • Internal Romulan political strife
    • Broader galactic political struggles
    • Issues with the new homeworld?
    • More thorough Hobus investigations
    • Stealth-related missions, both space and ground

    Playable races:
    • Romulans (duh)
    • Remans
    • Vulcans?
    • Hirogen?

    That's it for now.

    Vulcan 'defectors' would be interesting.
    Also maybe Holograms for BOff's.
Of course, 'Unknown Alien', but also maybe a couple of lesser known races, the way they used Lethian for KDF side.

I'd reserve Cardassian, Jem Hadar, Breen, and So'na (sp?) for a new Dominion faction. Wouldn't want to allow playable 'Founders' though. But then, I don't think Pakleds should be a Federation race.

i thought i read somewhere they were going to add them

they need to add borg and romulans

the main complaint against thegame is not enough content which implies they really liked the content and went right though it and want more

a couple of factions would do the trick

Sounds good my friend, I would like to see Donatra Empress of the Romulan Empire and not a Borg.

Hirogen don't fit there, they should go to the KDF.

My hope for Romulans: playable Flaxians. Awesome hair, and a history to be popular as assassins by the Romulan authorities. History, er, ok, its mentioned by Odo when the only on screen Flaxian is shown; and a Romulan confirms that he was hired to carry out a death sentence. But its still a clear canon connection; something I don't see with Hirogen.

I could also see Cardassians in this faction, based on the short alliance between Tal Shiar and Obsidian Order. Officially, the Obsidian Order doesn't exist anymore, but not every operative is willing to accept it.

Breen, Jem'Hadar, Vorta... all belong in a Cardassian/Dominion faction. Honestly, its not easy coming up with Romulan species.

Missions... Spying missions that involve stealth and infiltration (as in: map has enemies you have to AVOID and not pew pew as everywhere else). Tal Shiar vs [fill in any other Romulan organisation].

Good call - I forgot they were KDF not Romulan-related.

Oh no, you got me wrong. From what I read, Hirogen are said to go in the Romulan faction. I just think they are totally misplaced there because they are somewhat 'bam in your face', and Romulans are more 'dagger in your back' than that. I really hope Hirogen will be added to the KDF, and Romulans get other species that suit them better. Like the most awesome Flaxians.

I keep getting confused on which species fights where. The KDF and Rom missions are running together in my mind... ugh!

    Romulans:

'I do not recall if they are apart of the Federation, but I would add Phlaxians to the Romulan list.

Why? A Phlaxian attempted to assassinate Garak in the DS9 Episode "Improbable Cause"

Hirogen are a delta quadrant species. In Voyager, they were shown as nomads that live on their hunting ships, and (forgot where that came from:) it was revelaed their real territory borders on the Beta Quadrant... Makes little sense to me because the Voyager encountered them pretty deep in the Delta Quadrant, not even close to 'home'... In game, they are allied with the Romulans who offered them free hunting in their territory in exchange for their cooperation. Also doesn't strike me as the Hirogen we've seen in Voyager.

Delta Quadrant species have 2 reasons to be with the KDF. General Kurok (VOY Unimatrix Zero) was a liberated Borg Klingon who got his identity back and commanded a transwarp capable sphere. He was the only Klingon on that ship, and had killed the drones. With a skeleton crew (if at all) and a small ship, hunted by the Borg, he had any reason to seek allies and bring them back to Klingon space.
I don't remember the name of the episode, but there was also a Klingon ship on a long term mission in the Delta Quadrant. When it encountered the Voyager, the crew still believed the Federation was at war with them. If the ship was destroyed or remained there - any species that made contact with it got this information, and some that admired Klingons (like Vidiians) might have decided to go to their homeworld and support them.

I really think the Romulans should get species/allies from the Alpha and Beta Quadrant. The only contact they had with the Delta Quadrant was with Voyager (at the very beginning, season 1 or 2) when a Romulan science vessel picked up the signal of a probe in a collapsing wormhole. However, this was also a temporal issue, and the Romulan scientist couldn't foreward the information. When the Romulan Senate learned about the Delta Quadrant, the Voyager hadn't been thrown there; there was no valuable information to investigate, and likely it was in a time when no-one had the technology to go there on purpose.
There are a lot cool looking minor species, like Flaxians, that could be added to upcoming factions. Dopterians and Lissepians were known to do business with the Cardassians for example, and I'm sure there were also mentions of barely seen species that have connections with the Romulans, as traders, informers, assassins and such.

I as well brother; I as well. As long as Donatra is part of a playable Romulan faction I dont really care about the rest of the composition to be frank. Simply put without her the Romulans in general are a token nearly destroyed wannabe bad guy element for marketing purposes only and nothing more and that simply does not sit well with me.

    So how about ships?

    http://www.ex-astris-scientia.org/schematics/romulan_ships.htm

    We've seen:
    • Bird of Prey (early from the link above)
    • D'Deridex
    • Valdore
    • Reman Scimitar

Have we seen the Science, Scout, or Reman Scorpion?

How would these be "classed"? I'm assuming they'd have to make up some new ships?

It seems like I remember 2 different size WarBirds. The D-Class was the big one, but I thought there was also a smaller one.

Optional Tal Shiar missions or objectives would be nice. Like in "Tie-Fighter" where you had "extra" objectives for a certain low profile figure, all while operating "officially".

Technically this meant that the maps had some more obscure targets to scan or shoot, beyond the big bold Primary objectives.

Such hidden goals might take the form of a story of it's own, ultimately leading to fully dedicated missions, or some climactic confrontation when you least expect it. The Space is the limit to such storytelling. ;)

You need a lot of political backstabbing, and stealthy approaches with the Romulan Star Empire. That's for sure.

Wow I loved Tie-Fighter, and I've always kind of hoped we could run into this sort of 'Secondary' 'Tertiary' or 'Optional Objective' type thing. I loved that about Tie Fighter.

As for racial choices and all that, I'd rather see more costumes, fewer races for the extra (non Federation) Factions. Here is why. Hirogen have their own culture. Orions and Gorn have their own culture. The Federation has a standard set of ships though, and many cultures. On the Klingon side, I'm fine with them having the other races enveloped in their Empire, but it would be nice to see the cultural distinctiveness of those peoples included. I'd also like to see female Gorn (different coloring, perhaps slightly smaller), Lethean, Nausicaan. No reason not to. Also, it would be nice to see variant skins for the KDF ships, as suited to say an Orion, Nausicaan or Gorn captain. That way your Gorn can be Gorn, and be proud in his Vishap or Naga... Just as long as he follows J'mpoks orders :P
