I love STO. It was the first game to pull me away from WOW. I cant stand it now because I cant get in to play or when I do I get rubberbanding/DC/locked up. It didnt do this when I first started playing( about a week and a half) so its not me. I did what FAQ page said to do. Its not me. I checked my computer and connection its not me. Its you Cryptic and Im not the only one . STO will go the way of all other MMO's that try to do what Blizzard has but without the dedication of the Blizzard company to make it work. Basically prove me wrong or lose a customer, please. Again I love this game but havent been able to play it for three days now.
are you jsut here to tell us your leaving or are you looking for help resolving your issue?
if your looking for help then here goes nothing
although you can browse the web, play WoW etc it dosent prove the issue isnt with your PC, youd be surprised at how many people think that just besause their PC can play WoW also expect it to be able to play other MMOGS. you can play WoW and access the internet which will all happily work with dialup on a pc with less than 1gb and a 1ghz cpu yes they all work ok but STO requires broadband and a much faster PC than WoW
please provide the following info
the results of the nettest as detailed in the FAQ, right click the results and select mark, drag the mouse over the text you want to copy
your system specs, easiest way to do this is from a dxdiag.
ok in the mean time you can try the following
select a proxy even if your in the US a proxy server could result in less lag. if your in the EU try the EU proxy although ive found sometimes the game runs better without a proxy
if your using wireless with win7 use wlan optimiser or vista antilag, with vista try vista anti lag
You might also check your windows update log and see if there was an update to windows from the time you could play reliably to now. Also ensure that your drivers didnt revert back to a previous version, and make sure that if your using special keyboards or mice that you have the latest drivers for those, I just got a new driver download for my mouse, which was a logitech, this was after I kept having issues with my mouse being dropped inside STO, so just because you could play and now cannot doesnt mean it is STO or changes that were made to the STO game. As everyone here knows computers are complex devices and if it can go wrong it has at least once if not more than.
A friend of mine was getting really upset because she couldnt get past the character load screen getting out of the tutorial, it was her graphcs card not being able to hold the ammount of video memory to run the game at world detail 100%, try using safe mode and see if that clears up your issues, you can get to that option from the options menu on the patch screen.

Well based on the fact that that everything else I do on my computer works just fine I blame Cryptic and will leave it at that.
At the risk of demeaning you... I have to say that that is the common sentiment of people who have no idea how technology works. They blame the software maker for their technical issues.
Give us some info into your computer hardware, software and how you maintain it. If not, then go cry in a different forum.
I understand the frustration, I've had the game since Monday and still haven't been able to play. However since I've tried the install on three different computers, I know it's on my end somewhere. Since others are playing and posting questions about game tips, uniforms, new ships, odds are that it's most likely on your end and not Cryptic.
Here's some tips from.. well I haven't even played yet so I'm not even a newb. From a nob maybe.. anyway check to see if you've done a windows update, it might change device settings. Also check to see if you've installed any other software or hardware that may impact graphics settings. If you've made changes to your antivirus software, I'd look there as well. My two cents anway.

There's fewer and fewer of us every day but the game runs just fine for most of us.
Mine runs flawlessly now and has for awhile. If you're using ATi for video, try turning off Dynamic Lighting.
I can run with it, but I do notice a slight stutter sometimes when I turn on the Dynamic Lighting option
Thats just on ATi HD series cards though I think.
Best of luck with this.
(but I still really do think the issue is on your end or in between you and Cryptic) Not thier issue at all.
Bummer that is true
