Computer is Shutting Down

Hey peoples,

So, like quite a few other people here, I have been having the issue where my Computer will just turn off when playing STO. It only happens when I'm playing STO and there doesn't seem to be any kind of specific thing that is causing it in the game (like only in space, or only on ground etc.)

I have Updated my video drivers, as suggested.
I have changed the Max FPS as suggested

I have turned all of the graphics down as low as they can go (which is really annoying cause it's a pretty game in a lot of ways)

So....What do I do now?

if your pc is shutting down then i would say its not the game no game out there makes your pc shut down i would say it could be your cpu or your pc is over heating and shutting down what are the specs of your pc

I've got an HP 4G ram 2.66 GHz processor

I don't really know what else is important etc, but it has only ever acted like this with this game.

The whole machine just Powers off, like it got unplugged.

There has to be a way to make this work.

    Sounds like thermal cut-out

Download Core Temp (free) and watch your cpu temp jump as you play STO.

I've had to buy an Antec 900 Two to cool down my CPU (now runs at 55-60 celcius when running STO, but I do have 2x8800GT in SLi).

You should also clean the dust out from your computer with a compressed air can. Also make sure that there is about 6" of space on all sides of your computer for proper ventilation (excluding the bsae of course).

Adding to the advice already given.

I've seen it happen with gaming only when the video card fan stopped working properly. So double check all the fans are freely turning as well and free of dust buildup.

    Alrighty,

So I found something that works!

I don't know if others who have had the same problem will find similar success but here is what I had to do:

Normally I have two monitors on my computer, I disabled one of them to play STO and now it works just fine. Graphics turned up all the way and everything.

So, this worked for me (or at least has so far) Maybe it can help some other people too.
