What is the Arc Client?
Install Arc

Game won't start

Everything worked fine up until yesterday's patch. Now I can't log in. The launcher does nothing. It doesn't even have a version number on the window. Tech support asked me to run a traceroute and a nettest. I submitted the traceroute, but their nettest tool kept timing out. What's going on?

Sometimes patch programs are reflagged by firewall and antiviruses as new and you have to re authorized them
also on nettest besure you have it run as admin if using win7 or vista and it is setup in the firewall and antivirus program to allow net accesss on all ports.

No good. I turned off the firewall (Vista) and nettest either times out on all ports, or it just can't connect. And the launcher still has problems starting up. What is going on? This has never happened before.

Before you ask, I've set the game to run as admin. Still no change.

If nettest is timing out then something is blocking it from accessing the network. That is either
    1. firewall
    2 antivirus
    3. some other net guard program
    4. router (ports blocked or built in firewall)
    5. modem or router hanging
    6. ISP blocking or filtering ports
    7. Some routing partner of the ISP blocking or filtering the ports
    8. Some bad or misconfigure router along the path to the nettest server (it not the same as a game server so not affected by player load)

and since it happen after the patch and there are alot in the game after the patch and unless your ISP have done a hardware upgrade at the same time would still look closer at the PC to router areas.
Some Antiviruses and firewalls still leave componets active in system blocking the program even if you disable it.
I would also as an extra check make sure IE is not set to work off line and the IE cache is clear . even if you use a different browser.

also post a tracert patchserver.crypticstudios.com resutls

I think I figured out the problem, and it's terminal. Cryptic uses port 80, among others, for the game. However, my new ISP Sudden Link, actively blocks port 80. Not long ago I was in Fayetteville, NC and my ISP was Time Warner Cable. I just confirmed with them that they do not block port 80. I moved to San Angelo, TX about two weeks ago and set up an account with Sudden Link, the only ISP in the area. The game worked fine until two days ago. Sudden Link tech support says it was because port 80 was temporarily open on my service since the account was brand new, but now the port is closed. Furthermore, they will not open port 80 for any reason, period. There are no other ISPs in my area. Now what do I do?

    port 80 is THE INTERNET.
by blocking the port, they are basically blocking the vast majority of services and sessions which run on the web.

how bizarre. you can also use port 8080, but you cannot manually configure the client to run on that or another port.

well, personally i'd tell them that port 80 is the internet, and it therefore should not be blocked (no port should be blocked by your ISP, it's down to your router/computer to block that).

if they refuse, i'd suggest you change ISP.

here in the UK, the only bad thing some ISPs do is monitor bandwidth traffic on known ports for torrenting, but they're legally not allowed to block a port as it can disrupt companies and all sorts.

The internet will run without port 80; but the World Wide Web will not (yes, there is a differance). I cannot imagine any sane ISP blocking port 80. Do you have any other choices for an ISP.

.....Holy Cow, I still cant get over it........ISP blocking port 80

I just talked with Verizon. They do not block port 80, so I'll be going with them. According to Verizon tech support, Sudden Link probably blocks port 80 because they don;t want anyone hosting a business webserver from a residential setting. Stupid, I know. I'm going to put a new thread in this and the main forum warning everyone about Sudden Link.
