Add Ship class specific shields

Its not that escorts are that OPed. Its more to the fact that they can have the same shields as cruisers or carriers. As it stands now escorts can kill each other quickly and thats how its suposed to be. I do see the issue is we can usually do it to larger ship classes, Hull in Star Trek was always weak they counted on the shields for most of its protection. Give the cruisers a 50% better shield and better for the larger ships. This will balance out alot of PvP issues. This will also add the "Strategic" aspect some people are missing because the battles will last longer. The escorts will need to be healed and protected by the larger ships while they deal out their DPS.

Well they need to increase the modifiers or give class specific shields then. A larger shield system for a larger ship just seems right to me though.

    Your idea makes sense Stingray.

I dont want to get into a escorts are OP rant, but I've seen escorts drop shields on cruisers and science ships at ludicrous speeds. A slight balancing issue cringes up if you consider the wide gap in DPS, and the small gap in shield power between classes.

What I am really looking forward to is the shield power setting affecting shield resistance to damage. I think that more than anything is what will set ship types apart.

I think we should keep it the same.

As a cruiser pilot I think that for the 2 seconds I can tank that escort is way too long as it is. Perhaps we should be looking at cruisers not having shields at all. That way I can't use RSP either, which I am forced to use now to live longer than those 2 seconds. See, everybody's happy.

Well..maybe. I will probably then hear from escort pilots in matches about the fact that I am moving my ship forward too fast and that is OP.

"Season 1: Burst Damage Online" was a huge success.

I am personally looking forward to "Season 2: Even MORE Burst Damage"

This way we can all just fly escorts and enjoy Star Trek how it was truly meant to be experienced....

Behind the controls of my X-wing.

Dont expect anything good from that.

Think about the Skillset most Escorts run ...what comes to thougth? TSS 2 or 3! Now how much +Resists you think you will have left if they drain your Shieldpower by 90+? Maybe take a Science slot for Energy Siphon too so they drain your Power settings including shields further? What works today will work as good after the change so im not expecting any change from this one.

I think the ship modifiers will be enough once they change shield power to give you more damage resistance. A cruiser can pump up the shield power and finally be a tank. If escorts want good shields they'll have to sacrifice other power levels.

Not everybody uses TSS 2, even fewer use TSS 3. I do agree that these would mitigate, or even neutralize the shield resistance in some situation, but they are only temporary debuffs. Most escorts just rely on strong alpha strikes to break through shields and melt hull in under 5 seconds.

But, by your same logic, having ship specific shield would also change nothing, as a shield drain of 90 will still disable a shield, regardless if each facing has 8000 or 15000 points. Once the shield power is drained, it is 0 in all cases.

Dont have to be 0 sometimes i get through with 1-5 Shield power with 100% into shields + EPtS. But ,i see very few escorts ,at least Fed escorts ,that dont use either TSS 2 or 3 (depending if they could get lucky to get a MK 3 one) ...maybe there are more out there on FvF that dont use it but those i wont see.

Another one ...if you get to face an Escort not using TSS ,how much you think 50% Resists (i guess Shieldresists are also subject to stacking penalties so i dont think there will be a lot higher resists then 50-60% with running science team + EPtS + Power setting resists) to shield will help? Basicly its the same if you pop a Science Team + EPtS these days ...the good escort pilots will still burn through shields with their alpha ...8000 or 16000 isnt that much of a difference to the good ones. Also there isnt a change to -Resist debuffs as far as i know so i dont think we would have any left over Resists anyway after either Fire on my Mark ,Sensor Scan or that Attack Pattern ...(maybe even a combination of 2 of them).
