Will this come out on macintosh

i thought it seems a bit peculiar to not release this to the mac (much like what warcraft did and in TRIBBLE increased the amount of players on the game)

so i ask:
is it coming out on the mac and if so when?

any response is appreciated.

in short they don't have the expertise -

but there is an unofficial port

    http://forums.startrekonline.com/showthread.php?t=76799

in many ways it works better then running on windows... in some ways not... but it does seem to run faster.

Warcraft 3 also ran in OpenGL, hence why it could run natively on a Mac. D3D, not so much.

Eh, if you have a shiny new modern mac, just bootcamp it and drop windows 7 onto it. Problem solved.

Now, I'm going to sit back and listen to the sputtering indignation from the mac crowd at my suggestion of defiling their macs with an MS OS. You may cry now....

I for one would like to see this on Mac. Macs are far more stable and reliable. PC's crash ten times as much as Macs do.

see the thread in my link...

not as easy as an official port would be, but usable on most Macs.

and for the record... WoW was not ported to Macs because it was popular.... WoW was on Macs since day 1. The original release of WoW was PC/Mac on the same disc, its never been PC only.

Just checked my old box of WoW and you are right...win98,2000,XP and Macintosh. Btw great job from what I read on your port. Don't have a Mac but nice to see somebody offering solutions. I was disappointed when EVE dropped their Linux support.

Apple dosent really allow for any freedom when it comes to development when it comes to apps for thier computers (LMAO... Computer... Apple... What a joke...)

Anywho: If you are up to date on Apples rule-set for development for their gear, the do not allow 3'd party development applications to develop software for their systems.
So for a company to develop for Apple they will have to buy the by apple approved development tools, wich are, just like Apple products in general, severely overpriced compared to what you get. More and more companies do not want to invest in this because of the obvious expenses when it comes to this.

In short: Don't stay up waiting. It may come, but it probably won't.

that is totally and completely wrong... that is just so wrong and... totally without a clue.

Apple approved development tools are NOT required, and if you want to use them anyways they are FREE!

Apple does not control what programs you make or how you make them in any way.

I think you are thinking if iPhone/iPad and the App store... those are NOT Macs, and are not normal computer systems... they are controlled heavily, but that is only for those, that control doesn't exist for Macs.

Yea I have to respond to this...

In fact, OSX is simply a BSD Unix Derivative. So you can run almost all *nix code on the box without a single change. However, you do need to use certain Apple tools to code for their GUI. Those tools are free.

Is there really any reason why we need to turn this into yet another PC v. Mac ****ing match? The internet already has about 1.6 billion of these. It's not simply childish to jump into any thread with "Apple" or "Macintosh" in the header and start flaming - it's boring, too.

Anyway. If STO never comes to the Mac, it'll most likely be due to a lack of resources rather than a lack of interest. For now I'm content with doh123's Wineskin solution, although I did Boot Camp my iMac specifically for STO and would like to think that choice was justified somehow. ;)

Who knows? Maybe Valve's recent turn will have some effect on the landscape.
