ok dont shoot me i may be a bit wrong here but IIRC the game downloader uses a form of torrent to download the content now many ISP's these days limit the bandwidth used certain well known ports used by P2P (torrents etc) at peek usage times, youll need to check with your ISP what these times are. this would certainly explain why its slow when your downloading via torrent and the downloader

if your ISP is using these restrictions you will find the speeds of downloading increase at othertimes
    or
you could try a torrent downloader that allows you to change the ports it uses this should get arround the port filtering, the only one i know of is Azureus Vuze but it can be rather resource intensive and anything else your using will get a lower priority on system resources unless you use task manager to lower the Vuze process priority to low

It sounds like you're tring to use the STO Downloader I tried using when STO first got out of Beta. The site downloader can be ridiculously slow (no offense Cryptic, you need bandwidth for the servers).

Whats I did to get around this was go to File Planet and subscribe using their special membership ($5 about) to download the game from their dedicated download servers. You'll find that it will download MUCH faster from sites like this that are specialized in doing this.

This should work ALOT better for you :)

You could also let it run overnight and see if it opens up in the wee hours.

Unlikely, I tried that when I was using that and it progressed at the same rate ;)

Once upon a time, fileplanet was actually a decent place to download stuff from just due to the fact that people had no internet and there really were no lines. Then about couple years ago fileplanet's lines got to least 120 minutes long, though seems for the time being the lines don't seem to be that long. At any rate, fileplanet is free for the most part and decent speed. Though you can always try:

    http://www.gamershell.com/download_54822.shtml
    http://www.fileshack.com/file.x/16562/Star+Trek+Online+Open+Beta+Client

Atomic gamer's is slightly more updated than the other 3, though you'll still need to update regardless of which one you choose.
Also it's a kilo, not killa.

Ok so i redownloaded via Fileplanet as they are very good, so i do the same as before get to the setup and just in case i run as admin even though you don't need to in Windows 7. Ok so i got the the same bit as last time but i got the whole thing as it may help you guys to help me:) The full thing it said and was stuck on was:
    Copy to C:\Users\Public\Games\Cryptic Studios\Star Trek Online\Live\Piggs\bins.hogg

If this helps please tell me what it helps in, it gets stuck there and really slows my pc down so everything stops responding pretty much, but it definatly hasnt frozen because the pictures are changing, and so i cant even get to the start menu i have to power down via the plug.
Does this help at all? Please say it does! :) As im going to ask for a refund soon, as i've tryed many things.

the hogg files are larger files and take time to download and install. (as the patch installs as soon as a file is download and not when ithe entire patch is downloads.
By the way you never mentioned what type of internet connection are you using. (dial up, wired , wireless etc)

Using wireless and Virgin double ouch

if you are using Vista , Vista normal network searching could be interupting the download.
