WHY? Did you not read the PVP sticky here:
http://forums.startrekonline.com/showthread.php?t=115814
Why? Is it a huge deal to fight as a group?
I realize many playing this are new to PVP (thats the only logical reason I can think of ). So if your not going to fight in cohesive groups and insist on soloing (I admit soloing can be fun), please meet minimum Federation performance standards.
Why do you not have AT LEAST one reverse shield polarity?
Why do you have no way to break mezzes?
Why do you shoot the big cruiser with RSP and pulse feedback up when there are enemy escorts in range? For that matter, unless its destruction is imminent, why do you shoot at cruisers at all when birds of prey/escorts are in range? It is ok to change targets.
Why will you not toss someone a heal that is getting focus fired? While the enemy are shooting at them, they are not shooting at you.
Why do you try to take all 5 places in the capture and hold maps when its a close game? We need 3 spots. Take 3, hold them, we win. Make sure the 3 are on one side of the map as well, please.
Why do you warp into a Klink ball solo if your A) not trying to tank (requires some teamwork) or b) have no defensive cooldowns up? You fly to them, they are at full power and you will start at 0. Have a bit of patience and they will come to you, trust me.
Take a few minutes, a piece of paper and pen and warp to Sol base. While in space press p. Mouse over each and every ability that comes up. see what skills, abilities and gear support the moves you have chosen. Deflector dish is not the same as deflector field is not the same as deflectors. Write down what moves you are going to use and what buffs them to the max. Now look at your skills. Are your points spent fully supporting your moves? If not, please consider a respec while there at SOL. I see two players with the same basic ship set up and one lasts longer, hits harder, flys faster and out heals. The issue is skill point allocation.
As an aside, Klingons can cloak. I know, shocker. Complaining in zone chat that a klink escaped you by cloaking or surprised you by decloaking only makes you look dumb. As the game evovles, diferent moves will be buffed and nerfed. If you get PWND because some uses an "overpowered" move, it is legal. I don't like it and won'tt use them myself but it happens, respawn and get back in the fight. Your best revenge is now that the cooldowns spent, go kill him. A team of five, working perfectly together and knowing all the ins and outs of this game will still occasionly get destroyed. Its ok, it happens.
I don't mean to rant and I am definetly not one the best fed pvprs but I Know I contribute to my teams victories because I at least do the basics. In my opinion, at this time the Klinks are winning the majority of contests. I does not have to be that way. Would you have your children and your childrens children grow up under the Hand of Qnos? Lets take a moment to regroup, get our sht together and then take it to them!
I'm off to take my bloodpressure pill. Thanks for reading

Once you get through the "City on the Edge of Never" mission on the fed side you realize the answer to this question.
on that note, why is it such a big deal not to invite the random 5th guy if you get 4 of the 5 people in your group and then kick him after the match? I kinda LIKE being able to see which teammates to heal.
As a corollary to that, why not request a team invite? I've had too many people come in late to a match, find us in a fight, and instead of right clicking any of my group and requesting an invite, they cry about it in zone chat.
I'm too busy to search for you when there are a bunch of us already in a group engaged in combat. Make it easy on both of us and right click.
I always go into combat targeting a team mate so that I can focus fire on their target (on the off chance someone has called a target before hand I'll do that). Once someone extends shields to it or they pop some immunity buff I flail tab around hoping to get on a good secondary target. Sometimes I realize too late that they aren't a good secondary target.
Sometimes at Full Impulse I'm so intently watching my next objective that I don't notice the 2-3 other Klingons just to my right who most certainly notice me.
Also, when I'm returning to a combat situation (usually after a respawn -_-) I'm good about dropping to thrusters at about 14-15km to allow my power setting to recover. However, when I see another team mate at 30-40% I want to get in there and drop an Engineering Team on them so do I push it further and sacrifice my power levels to drop it on them or do I watch their hull get eaten away before ultimately exploding at 10.1km? If I get in there and assist them with that much hull gone usually they are done for anyway and now I'm a sitting duck waiting for my power to increase.
I know that the Klingons are going to decloak behind me and unload but if they are slightly off screen I can't Target Nearest Enemy or even tab to them, I have to manually select them which diverts my attention from the other issues of keeping myself alive (I don't suppose anyone knows of a way to bind camera panning left or right to the left and right arrows, by the way?).
As a Bird of Prey Klingon, I find that with the narrow targeting arcs (which I'm not complaining about at all) sometimes I think I'm aiming right but when I hit the button to center camera I find that I'm actually aiming just outside of the arc. If I zoom in too much I can't see the pew pew canon fire but if I zoom in too much I miss important stuff and reduce the possibility of targeting the enemy behind me just off screen.
For either side I'm not a leader. If someone else doesn't form up I generally don't start sending out invites. Part of it is that even when I grasp the concept of just what needs to be done I still have mechanical issues with executing. All this time and I still hit the wrong buttons and put the wrong abilities on cool down at the wrong times.
Ouch. These are just some of the issues I'm having. I'm sure more will come to me later, lol.
U are really open and frank about ur ouw experiences in PvP from which a lot of Fed players can learn.
Btw, a nice trick, if u have to full impulse into a swarm of enemies to save a teammate, ur Science BO skill is available for you. Shoot a Scramble Sensors at the nearest enemy which will cause confusion so u have time to regain ur cooldowns and further support ur teammate in distress.
everybody forgets. those professional Klingon who win every match, also play those challenged feds you kill every day.
im not talking about no premade team. becuase not everybody has one of these.
The only place this handicap doesn't apply are the assault maps which is the only place the Feds have a chance of winning... however I've seen some people playing on assault and when you invite into a team they either ignore it (how can you ignore a blue box in the middle of screen and then keep on playing and complaining) or decline. Only 25% of the time do they actually accept them.
So you make some good points... but the real problem is the handicap.
I do
Klingons get paid to PVP?
Sign me up!
So here's a bump for your thread. Please read OP.
Tough, and I will make the wrong call likely as often as the right one - however. Look at the tactical situation. If you can 'save' a ship when it is 4 klinks to 3 feds (and you are just coming into the fight) then at least you get a break even situation for a bit. Might be enough to turn the tide, so I say go for it. Try to remember to pop a weapon battery though, as soon as you drop from full impluse. least get SOME power on-line !
If it is 4 vs 1 (or 2) and one is near the warp core blossom point, then no - you are better to turn out of the fight, regroup with them when they respawn, and start two ships fresh. Save your ship so you can heal up, and get some of the timers back to zero. Likely you used them all up before you went boom anyway.
Again, tough call, and you will likely get it wrong as much as get it right. What is helpful - if you team up SOMEONE pick a rally point if things go bad. So the team knows where to go back to after the respawn and regroup.
Too many buttons to press, that's often my problem.
Maybe I should invest in a touch monitor?
Or learn to touchtype
Never heard of that term before.
It's kind of a sexeh way of typing - Only for Adults!
klink vm then jams you and you're not a fed tactical
your options are non existant
Would be cool as hell for the immersion aspect of it though if we had touch monitors. XD
Just look around, man... You can single handle a group of 5 attack ships (even if they are +5 towards you),
in any PvE instance, Not to mention, you are a FED-Care-Bear and as per script (well, movie script), you are
they one, that will always win the fight. Because this are the RULES for any StarTrek movie!
One whoot
outnumbered in PvE. Na, RSP is BAD, don't use it! ONLY bad Fed-Cear-Bears are using this nasty little
skill  Be a good Fed-Care-Bear and take my cannon fire, keep in mind, as per rule 1, Federation
ALWAYS wins, in the movies!
Oh, I make a guess... "we need MORE auto-fire in space" and now combine this with "I have set my target
system to -default-, resulting in the SCI-Team you want for you to be applied to the target....
As a Fed-Care-Bear, leave the options as they are, they are GOOD for you and will help you to single handle
an entire attack fleet (in PvE).
No, No, No, NO, it is NOT ok, to change targets! ALWAYS fire at the BIG HUGH cruiser or carrier and ignore
me in my wee little turtle neck raptor... I promise, I will be gentle
But, they might shoot at the me later (and ya mate, we DO so) - I might need the heal for myself!
So, Fed-Care-Bear, don't heal other, keep heals ALYWAYS to your self !
I ain't a KLING! and If you can see me de-cloaking.. please accept my apologize, but scramble must have
been on CD
Long life the ORION Empire
Kirk had to cheat to win the Kobayashi Maru test... which is a constitution class cruiser vs 3 coordinated D7 hellbent on attacking.
I can guarantee you that if Shattner played this, even with Nimoy, Takei, Koenig and the rest of the original enterprise crew (playing their star trek characters) they'd fail a 3 on 1 anytime... or would have to cheat.
Kirk's my favourite but even I know he'd get killed against 3 battlecruisers.
Nah, he'd pull something out of his nether regions. Maybe he'd challenge the Klingons to a drinking contest. With Scottie representing the Enterprise.
The time's here where you actually have to search for people who use teamwork ...good "old" times ...wish they where still here.
For a few days I have blocked team invites cause some dorks were sending me them during combat so imagene this, someone fires rapid cannon fire at you and need to press RSP and team invite pop's up,you get distracted, don't manage to click rsp in time and die
bad feds joined the klink side expecting to instantly roll face when they realized how badly fvf went for them.
something about the startrek logo attracts such bad players...
I have to agree completely with this post. I am also not a pvp expert, but i know enough to know that chrging in and getting killed solo time after time is not the way to go. Its not the cloaking device that is killing us its the fact that no one waits for all the players to get there, forms a team or discusses tactics or stratagy with any one else..........................
yes, this is a problem for us, vs a decent team i cannot carry a full grp of these people.
Still on the bright side, rolled myself a lvl LC6 (highest lvl feddie i have ever had) last night to do some pvp, and out of the 7 matches i had we won 4, one was 5k v 4F an we lost 15-9, but i reckon if the others realised that the swirely picture was an engi team an can be used to heal we would have won that match too. All in all so far i am not seeing this t1 is soooo unbalanced thing, tho the miranda is TRIBBLE i will give you that, could be that i am only seeing those really bad feddies at t1 in klingon ships however so will need to play more matches
Instead of addressing the players, why not address the developers? The fault in this completely unbalanced PvP is theirs, and only they can fix it. No offense, but one side with cloak and the other without it is the most shockingly stupid design ever conceived.
nope not really, its the same way with stalkers in COX and us good guys crush them all the time.
the miranda is a bloody deathtrap, it is THE ship that filmers and designers go to when they need to blow things up. Wrath of Khan, wofl 359, 90% of the ds9 battles, first borg invasion... you name it, they blew a miranda up in it. Hell, Admiral Quinn isn't saying "We need you!", he's saying "heres a flying coffin, go kill yourself".
and based on the average ability of t1 pvpers (both sides), I'd say that thats not a misleading order. /rant
really though, at those levels, one or two people can really drag the team to a victory, even if they're kicking and screaming the entire time.
i honestly feel if i could get a grp of 4 players in a miranda each with engi heal and the balls to use it i would not lose another cracked planet to the klingons, i have seen so many matches where i have healed for 12k+ and have been the only one on either team to have done so. epts will not save you in t1 vs focus fire, almost 10k in heals from your team mates probably will, throw in a sci team o to to remove js and you're away. 1v1 is not a problem, well it was a bit tougher at lvl 6 vs highter lvl players but once you get the lvl 8 captain special to even the odds then not really.
Even in cp i see feds impulse of to the horizon, what they expect to find i have not idea, i have managed to get a few not to just sit stationary giving away crit bonuses and hit chance, however even that can be like pulling teeth. Even at t1 it is a case of if the feds took a balanced build that can help support both themselves and thier team mates winning and losing at that level wouldn't be nearly as bad as some have made it out to be. my god you can stay alive for a while just spamming redistribute shields at this lvl, a button way to many players seem unaware of.
