Now remember how much you wanted to try out shanty town?
Well, i do, it looked so cool
so, i tried it and it wasn't so hard to get enough people the first time
but...
only 2 days later i was on Star trek online for 4 hours at LEIUTENANT COMMANDER LEVEL!
and for those fve hours and the next week or so there were never more than 6 people on the queue
If you don't know where the pvp queue is its on the upper left hand corner triangle
then click pvp gameplay and scroll down and join the shanty town queue, becuase over about a month i have only gotten to play it once...
It is the same as the "15 kill" space maps without objectives. A bunch of people clustered up steamrolling another group. When you don't have objectives this is the end result. They could have made some CTF or territory maps or versions on the current maps.. but nope. Just run around and kill things.
there isnt alot of peeps at the lower levels anymore either. there are some fedrats at the loewr level, but with the large amounts of PVE available to the fedrats compared to the klinks... not many pvp.
shanty town is actually a pretty well done map, but really needs even teams (or close to) to keep it fun, otherwise you are sapwn and dead spawn and dead.

Shanty Town is fun. Lots of fun, actually. But when leveling I wouldn't waste my time with it since it doesn't give any rewards on completion

Boring and stupid.
Ironic considering the topic of this thread, Shantytown ... is the one ground PVP map that has objectives. You can win without killing a single opponent in PVP (though realisticially that's hard since you probably will have to shoot a few to get to their computer terminal).
And for the klingons, shantytown is extra awesome because of the turret killer missions they get handed.

Really? Hmm, then maybe I will check it out. I stand corrected. If they are finally moving into some sort of objective based ground maps finally, then I am all for that.
Thanks for letting me know. Never heard anybody say anything about it having an objective before.
I wouldn't mind ground combat so much, it is frustrating at times, but my only real complaint with the GAME is that "HELD" TRIBBLE. It is honestly the dumbest, most unfair and useless thing I have EVER seen in a video game.

Thanks Superchum.
Last time I played shantytown it still had some bugs in it. So be aware that it still needs some work. (And the mission text itself doesn't do a very good job explaining what you need to do for the objectives).
BUT ... all thast aside, the basics of what you're attempting to do is ...
Each side has a base.
In that base is a terminal. Surrounded by some turrets. You go to your terminal and "download" a computer virus. Then you run over to the enemy's terminal and upload that virus into their system.
And then run back and do it all over again.
Or ... you shoot them dead.
It's much quicker to win by doing the virus objective. I think you take away 30 or so security levels with each successful upload. Whereas each player kill is just 1 secuirty level.
The turrets are placed to shoot at you while you try to do your objectives (or shoot at your opponents to provide you some cover).
So you get some PVP interaction. Some PVE interaction. And an alternate path to victory.
It's not the best thing they've ever designed. But it's a step in the right direction.
I've played it about a dozen times. I like it. The map is also refreshingly new. It lives up to the name of shantytown so it's got that wild west feel.

I played 5 games of Shanty Town last night and another 3 or 4 of another Ground map.
Lots of fun although Engineers are grossly imbalanced and OP on the ground atm in group PvP.
They're amazing on Shanty Town map.
Fighting an Engineer isn't even like fighting another player. It's like a PvE match.
The engineer really doesn't do anything (especially skill wise) except spam recharge shields.
You spend most of your team killing his Seeker Drones that are hitting you for 300 per pop when you have 30-40% energy resist.
The other half of the time you're tab targeting through all the ridiculous deployables because the "DOn'T TARGET OBJECTS" option doesn't work.
True. Carrier spam was horrendous in terms of targeting annoyance if you had 4 or 5 of them in there.
Ground however is much worse even though there are technically less things to target.
This is mainly because of the high DPS of the deployables (especially the ones that can MOVE) and the targeting issues that are present in ground PvP.
Engineer deployables are NOT like Carriers in space because of the simple fact that the Engineer deployables like Seeker Drones are INSANELY hard to kill for what they are and do INCREDIBLE amounts of damage.
Carrier ships are neither high damage OR hard to kill.
Carrier ships should have resistance to AoE effects and be a little beefer on damage now that they fixed the spam.
Also Engineer's themselves are hard to kill if they're not exposed.
It's ok having some PvE mobs that someone can spawn but when it's 99% of all that they do and not something that requires skill or ability to control just a "clik and spawn" then you're not really fighting a player you're fighting PvE mobs.

I won't touch it with if you paid me to.

sounds like prenerf carriers
