So I started playing Klingon again, and now I play it most of the time. Reason? I don't die most of the time, I'm simply to powerful for feds. And I know, why Klinks are whining on feds so much when feds are stating obvious = Klinks are OP; It's because they are afraid to loose all that power they have now. They are OP. For example: Shields, I barely ever loose them, how is that ? In real ST, feds of 24th century have most powerful shields, but not here in STO! Why? Because you have to make klink players happy, and make them up for no story? That's TRIBBLE. I have fed RA5 full escort, with tactical captain, and any klink can easily take me out in two volleys, when I at the same time can barely take 50% of it's shields down. I use a lot of Tactical stuff to reinforce shields and weapons, but it's still not enough. It's boring to lose all the time, In a team or not - it's boring.
I wasted so much time for this game, and it's still so unbalanced that I'm frustrated even when playing as a klingon, simply because of those issues.
Cryptic is doing nothing to balance it, but adding more useless stuff that no one cares about, and trying to fill up their pockets from crappy C-Store items while many fed players simply cancel their subs.
New bridges? what for??? Starship Skins? boring and ugly, and don't bring anything new. Special titles ? pointless, I asw maybe 10 people with them.
I ask where the hell is the logic in those additional bridge packs ? If you could command your ship from a bridge, then maybe it would make any sense, but otherwise it's a complete waste of artistic time, and our money.
You cryptic have to learn a lot about MMORPGs, but I will not be paying money for your basic education.

Here in lies the reason of ur frustration. Ur expectations were not met by Cryptic. U want a undefeatable Federation where as in the series, Klingons get their butts kicked mostly by overwhelming Science used by the Feds. The ships are not OP, the players are.
I use a lot of Tactical stuff to reinforce shields and weapons, but it's still not enough. It's boring to lose all the time, In a team or not - it's boring.
Statements like these make me wonder if u graps the notion of this game at all. Tactical shield reinforcements? Engineers and Science are for better shielding, give it a try. When reading this, u come across as a "I only played a tactical officer", expand ur horizons, tac officers die easy in tac ships, but they also wreak havoc on the battlefield, I've seen Escorts take out Neg'Vars and Carriers in one pass, is that fair then?
While I can agree to some of your post and understand yoru frustration I understand that this is a special IP. From what I take from this you are a "gamer" and enjoy MMOs and other games that allow for player versus player. With this particular game though it draws in a crowd that is not the traditional MMO player. It draws in the people who for the last 20+ years of their lives watched star trek and saw a chance to play star trek. Lots of those very same people that do not normally play MMO's are the ones screaming about OP this and OP that. They lack the real understanding of how a MMO operates.
I agree that some balance is needed but in all honesty Cryptic has been making a very visable attempt to geet information and gather feedback on how they can help repair the balance. I can see how lots of people do not want to wait around for it, or went to check another game out or went back to the game they know while this issue is resolved but I can see at least on the surface Cryptic is trying to be proactive about things.
The real issue is the large amount of people that want things balanced and then the people that want more star trek mythology. That is the juggling act they are trying to deal with. In the mean time OP. I would try to relax and enjoy what you can out of the game. Or just hang on for SWTOR cuz that game is gong to be amazing.
It's pretty obvious Cryptic doesn't give a ****. They don't post here, they don't communicate (apart from their state of the game stuff which is all fair weather 'it's going swimmingly'). PvP has some serious balance issues and they just don't ... care. At least, it seems so.
based upon obeservation of the forums i have come to the following conclusions:
klingon players are complaining about feds being overpowered
federation players are complaining about klingons being overpowered
ultimate conclusion - BOTH MUST BE OVERPOWERED!
therefore, both sides need to be nerfed into oblivian.
i will admit there are more complaints about klingons from federation players then klingons about federation, but statistically it is to be expected since an overwhelming majority of players are federation, so more feds complaining about klingons is to be expected DUE TO THE LAW OF AVERAGES.
seriously, even when you even the playing field, peeps complain about their own faction when pvping against their own faction.
To the OP and others- i have played alot of matches where klingons decimated the federation, and alot of matches where the federation went all kirk on the klingons. furthermore, there were alot of matches where it was a dead even fight most of the way. based upon my experience of a few hundred pvp matches spanning several levels it is not as bad as many make it out to seems. it appears player skill and/or knowledge is a more common factor, as it is with many games.
and before you say it, i have been pwned and have pwned and had drag out fights. i have been Sub NUC beam and viral matrixed, i have been victim to the shield drain build and other affects many consider OP. i just chalk it up to "okay he got me good" and then i go looking for him to avenge my death, and i time my attack when his abils are on cool down.
Oh wait, that means i am doing something so Overpowered, i am using a tactic to attack my opponent when he isnt at his best!!! I should be nerfed to make it fair!!!
i am not a pvp god, i dont even consider myself great at pvp. i just consider myself skilled at it.
I played tactical captain doing all science skills until they introduced respec, and since I love Defiant, I went for full respec to escort. I didn't notice any difference in dying on the arena.
My problem is basically this: I go in fleet escort, head to head against Klingon escort, with all AP cannons, doing at least Alpha + Omega + RFIII = I'm dead, his shields are 50-75% up. This is happening to me most of the time. And this is what I call lack of balance. I have never managed to kill klingon of the same lavel in 1vs1 fight, unless he was 50% done, and with no help from others, although sometimes even that is not enough to take him down.
On the other hand, When I play klingon, I can take out +6 escort/science ships easily and it takes a bit longer to take out a cruiser, but no problem. And I die only if there's many attackers sitting on my back, though even then I can just run away and cloak. And as a klingon, I'm only Lt.Cmdr, where my Fed is a RA5.
I did klingon just for the fun of a test, to see by myself whether klingons are overpowered or not.
So, can anyone tell me what's wrong with my Fed char, that I can never match average klingon of the same level ?
This is not an issue to me, I play pretty much the same Tac/Cruiser build on my Fed Admiral 5 as I do on my Klingon BG5 and its win some loose some.
What I do see is Feds can Lvl up through PVE and Klingons mostly lvl through PVP. This has been brought up so many times I can t count them....Klingons are better at PVP because they are used to it at least for a while anyway. Dont expect to arrive at Admiral lvl and do dailies using your PVE builds they just dont work mostly because you are inexperienced at PVP. (incorrect console choices, skill choices to match BO skills)
I've seen fed groups utterly destroy in PVP whilst playing my Klingon and its down to group balance the same as most other MMO's out there.
Please dont cry foul in a game that is actually quite balanced in end game PVP and take another look at your skill layout and the respective forums for the class you play, there is a wealth of knowledge in those forums and it may be handy to those just venturing into PVP.
Have fun,
Oh and Dizzident you might want to take a look at the dev tracker from time to time. They do post in the forums and they do read them.
Well whaddya know, I didn't even know that profile thing even existed, I've learnt something new today.
Sorry slightly OT, but there ya go.
I was sci/sci ship since headstart, but switched over to escort recently (I was tired of using the Big 3 to win so felt like a change of pace). Using a full AP setup and build, I usually open up with Beam Sub Target Engines 3 (followed by 2 if I failed to immobilise them), get behind them and then hit omega and RF and nuke away. 1 vs 1 that can usually drop me most klingon ships, and bop's certainly. This of course is not taking into account any shenanigans with RSP and the like, although with any luck I get them down low enough to finish off with a ram.
I've always been of the opinion that the difference between feds and klingons is down to levelling culture. Until such time as the majority of Klingons are levelling almost exclusively through PvE - sorry, interesting and varied pve with a single player storyline - then Klingons will have the advantage of experience, and experience goes a long way in any game.
This of course is just my view of it and you have no need or requirement to subscribe to said view and I respect your choice if you choose not to.
That's TRIBBLE. I have fed RA5 full escort, with tactical captain, and any klink can easily take me out in two volleys, when I at the same time can barely take 50% of it's shields down. I use a lot of Tactical stuff to reinforce shields and weapons, but it's still not enough.
I am a BG 5 flyng an Raptor and if i meet an equal Escort i have to be carefull not to be insta shot in 3 seconds, if i meet a cruiser i fly away, knowing that it is pointless to shoot at the never ending RSP disaster, if i meet a Science ship i get VM on me and disabled and shot......
My point ?? Learn your ship, use tactics, train your BO's proper, get the best gear you can get, pump your self up before battle, pick your targets not alone, get a team and kick TRIBBLE.... Or like i use to do, shout loud; SUCKER !!!! if i blast a fed ship out of the sky with 40K dmg from my tricobalt torpedo because he failed to look behind him. it gives me the smal pleasure after being insta shot because i never saw that Escort unleashing Rapid Fire III on my high above me.......
FFS give it a rest already. meh klinks to op meh this meh that. jeeses, its time to throw the diaper in the garbage mate.
im tac in an advanced escort. what u say is a bold faced lie!!! cranck up your tac abilities and u rip everything to shreds thats not instantly being buffed with everything a team has to offer. if klinks leave me be in a large engagement they are going to regret it very dearly very fast. ive nuked 2 bops and a negh var battleship (in pvp!!!) in less then 15 seconds. thats what like 80k hull damage??? (note that im not even mentioning the shields they had, and those where at full power.) granted there was a cruiser allie of mine nearby taking the brunt of the klinks attacks, is why i got to dish it out. but one on one head to head. it all comes down to what skill u have (boff skills, tree skills, and personal playing skills) if u cant get his shields even below 50% while you are blowing up, u my friend are doing alot of things very very wrong.
read some posts here, alot of information on how to do so descent damage. but im guessing u just come here to QQ instead to read and learn
that said pve vs pvp tends to create a steep learning curve for feds but seriously try some teamplay. ud be amazed what that does. in pugs i rarely see feds do more healing then 30-50k wich is laughable. u will lose everytime that way

seems you have managed to improve your gameplay somewhat, was not soo long ago you had the exact same issues, did you not start a thread asking for pvp builds because you were getting thrashed. It took others to help you before you started to get it right, i would not be so fast to spout off about others having trouble, you are far from being all that.
sory to be the bearer of bad news but your post is filled with QQ klinks are op. wich in fact is not true. cloaks give a tac advantage, no going around that. but its not way overpowered as many would like to believe. feds have their advantages to.
ofcourse i made a post asking help. i wanted to get better, and i did (somewhat)
i get the feeling this pvp forum is being flooded with pve players trying to win pvp when doing their dailys. NOT GOING TO HAPPEN. if u do your dailys your not a pvp player going up against pvp players. make the following analogy: how much of a chance would you give yourself of winning if u were to go up in the ring vs the reigning heavy weight claas world champion boxing. i would say none. why do u expect to win if u dont stand a chance?
if u read my 'help me pllz' post u should have gotten some info on how to improve yourself. i know i have.
its always better to ask help about things you dont understand instead of just randomly attacking current way of things.

Klingons are ridiculously overpowered. Personally, I've had my fill of losing 15-0 and not standing a chance in the Arena PvP, so I tend to avoid it. If Feds could get some equivalent abilities, it might start to be a level playing field...
L;ingons are not OP
this is coming from a Fed player, the problem is that feds lack organization and teamwork. To be fair the same can be said on klingon side.
Overall space is balanced fairly well with a few tweeks needed here adn there
So I started playing Klingon again, and now I play it most of the time. Reason? I don't die most of the time, I'm simply to powerful for feds. Let me get this straight guys: I do play a lot in a team, and when we cooperate, it's a 50/50 win scenario in FvK. The problem is that my level of damage is second to last. When I attack some lone wolf flying around, half cloaked, I can't kill him, cause his shields stay up.
While playing klingon, I noticed that Klingons have natuarally better shield rotation skill. I can bascially bring my shields up by clicking on rotation lilke mad, while under attack by some fed. I can't do anything close to that when playing fed though.
All you're saying guys here is basically a proof to the lack of balance. If one, in order to be reasonably good on the arena, must build its character specifically for PvP, it's already misbalanced, or game design is TRIBBLE. I should be able to build allrounder or some other mix, and still surprise my targets, but no, not in this game.
Feel free to post how bad it is, and any suggestions are welcome.
Cheers
Things you got wrong:
BO-abilities:
Cannon scatter volley
Beam fire at will
beam overload (you are an escort)
torpedo spread
Skills:
Why tactical team leader 9 if you got no tactical team and science and eng team only 3 if you use them?
Assault training 9? really?
Why tactical and heavy escort captain at 9? This skills only transfer with 25% to the fleet escort. Meaning you paid up to 400 skillpoints for 1 point of bonus for your fleet escort. It's not worth it!
You use no target subsystem X skill, so get rid of the beams on your escort and rid of the beam-skills too
You use antiproton AND phasers? Either or is the key. Focus on one damage type. If you want antiproton get the skill to 9 - and get for the chosen damage type the damage consoles in your tactical slot!
Starship engineering training is not required, and especially not at 9!
Get rid of all the shield maintenance/efficiency/performance, and put it into engine maintenance/efficiency/performance
Why weapon maintenance?
Why Emitters and hazard systems if you dont use hazard emitters? Why no deflector and deflector field for science team instead?
All in all: Don't max out all the Tier1 and 2 skills. Level 7 is enough for most of them. 200skillpoints for 1 point bonus is way too expensive.
Last sentence to another statement: Klingons can NOT shift their shield power faster than FEDs. They use the same gamemechanics for everyone. You simply do way less damage with your ship than they do to you, not because their weapons are stronger, no, because you don't know how to skill properly, which abilities to choose to get the most out of it and, now a theory from my side, also don't know anything about energy management, bonus defense, counters to skills or are able to outmaneuver any opponent.
This is obviously a ******** post , by a frustrated Fed trolling for a nerf of Klingon players and vessels. If he actually bothered to play Klingon he would never have posted this . Chances are this noob , played purely Fed PvE , and at RA 5 showed up in PvP expecting it to be easy and got his butt handed to him . He's probably the type of noob that spams mines thinking that it's effective. Oh, **** maybe I shouldn't have said they weren't effective , stike that last sentence.
If Feds could get some equivalent abilities, it might start to be a level playing field...
Wow, this has to be the all time funniest statement I've seen on the boards ever. If Klingons had half the access to BOff's and equipment that Feds had you might have a complaint., but they don't. I've run across some excellent Fed players with great build that know exactly what they are doing , unfortunately most have no clue.

If you can't kill a lone wolf as an escort you fail.
Better shield rotation? What are you smoking? It's the same thing.
Maybe some of us want to make the choice whether to build for PvE or PvP? Can we not tailor the game to our specific interests like you? Not all of us get off on scanning anomalies. Or would you expect to have an "I can kill anything in any situation" build?
I'm not gonna start on your skill tree. It's not even good for PvE dude. Maybe you shouldn't complain about balance issues when you take useless skills.
My problem is basically this: I go in fleet escort, head to head against Klingon escort, with all AP cannons, doing at least Alpha + Omega + RFIII = I'm dead, his shields are 50-75% up.
We have access to the same weapons and shields. Well actually Feds get more PvE loot right? If you're in a fleet escort then I would expect you'd have more survivability than the average tactical-oriented BoP. Is it possible you're just doing it wrong?

Ill second what rotor panda said. Why do you have any ground abilities at all if you want to excel in space pvp?Choose one or the other.Like others my first character was half and half until i respecced out of ground abilities to space abilities.i survive alot better now in space pvp, but no where near good enough as those who specced in all space ability skills.Put away the nerf bat and figure it out, just like i did.
Don't take negative feedback about having a bad skill set up too personally. On the other hand, there are some really nice suggestions in Rotor_Panda's post. They really aren't immediately clear just what benefits what (with the exception of the only 2 examples in the tooltip). It takes a lot of researching through the forums or finding one of those nice skill tree builders to get a better understanding. Spend a little time with the respecs and you'll be amazed there difference it can make when you don't throw points where they don't need to be.
At least, that's what helped me. I'm still crappy but my skills are a bit more nicely organized, lol.

I guess they're busy playing their Klingon toons.
Right Jackalope?
He is clearly just mocking the posts that discuss how the small hull/shield advantage of the feds doesn't match the utility of cloak.
Look at the captain database for him. He has one fed at only Lt. rank. His main is listed as an admiral (don't know why it doesn't say BG) of the KDF.

In the end, you win, you loose. Period.
im tac in an advanced escort. what u say is a bold faced lie!!! cranck up your tac abilities and u rip everything to shreds thats not instantly being buffed with everything a team has to offer. if klinks leave me be in a large engagement they are going to regret it very dearly very fast. ive nuked 2 bops and a negh var battleship (in pvp!!!) in less then 15 seconds. thats what like 80k hull damage???
Nobody was born "Pro"
edit: Except possibly William Shatner
ofcourse i made a post asking help. i wanted to get better, and i did (somewhat)
i get the feeling this pvp forum is being flooded with pve players trying to win pvp when doing their dailys.
B like the borg and adapt.
Dave is keeping it real, I applaud u Dave
I see what you did there
this is coming from a Fed player, the problem is that feds lack organization and teamwork. To be fair the same can be said on klingon side.
Overall space is balanced fairly well with a few tweeks needed here adn there

P.S. The reason your not losing shields is because Feds like to use full impulse and start firing the moment they are in range.
Your my hero!
? mine is buzz lighyear, i would recommend him as a role model if your still in the market for a proper hero
Mines Ellen Ripley.
This is my char skill tree, together with BO skills (all lvl 9):

/troll ended
At least, that's what helped me. I'm still crappy but my skills are a bit more nicely organized, lol.
