I've been hearing alot of rumors about a PvE death Penalty but not a peep about one for PvP. So here are my, and my fleets, thoughts on the best PvP death penalty for the current STO PvP system.
Have you ever been PvPing, destroyed your enemy, and before any of your cool-downs are up that very same person you've destroyed is back, in your grill, not allowing you to advance your capture timer (capture and hold). Well i have, and the reason for this is because the current PvP death penalty is a six second re-spawn timer. Well in my opinion this is just not good enough. So here's the Fix, Program a code that is pretty much is like this tD x 3 = tR where tD = number of deaths, 3 = baseline seconds added per death, tR = Total re-spawn timer. I.E. You've just been destroyed, you've just had your 5th death therefor you will take 15 seconds before you maybe re-spawn again.
What will this do for PvP?
- Well for one it will give a person more satisfaction when destroy their target. (Yes! take a dirt-nap for 3 more seconds)
- It will allow an outnumbered team, that has superior PvP skills, a chance to win. I.E 6v10 the team with six stomps the 10 team in every battle encounter. But because not being able to have the numbers to hold caputre points they lose.
- Provide a starting point for better PvP maps. (imagine a PvP map where your main goal was to kill the enemy star base and there were only 2 paths to your target base because you were in a nebula. Well in a 10v10 scenario, you'd simply group up in teams of 5, one side go down one path, while the other group goes down the other path. The two factions would meet somewhere in the middle and keep killing eachother untill their death timers would reach some where in the range of 60 seconds. By that time the more dominate side will be at the base defenses slowly or quickly destroying the base before the enemy has a chance to re-organize/spawn and repel the onslaught.)
- Encourage players to PvP better and not use death as a tactic. (Players would simply throw them selves at you to keep you from progressing to the next Capture point, more annoying than fun)
What are the side effects of implementing this?
- Improved Teamwork
- Larger ego's
- Additional subscribers
- Improved sex life
- unimproved sex life
- hot sweats
- rapid heart beat
- Overactive Endorphin production
- gloating
- and this list goes on and on.

Well with your logic they shouldn't even dare to put a PvE death penalty in. There are way more PvEers than PvPers.
Where did you get that idea from my post? I posted nothing about PVE death penalty. PVE death penalty is pretty standard in MMOs. PVP death penalty is not. It would frustrate players and really harm general interest in PVP. While you may garner some sort of satisfaction out of it ... the people you kill would not like it. And likely, a lot of players would simply shift to PVE or leave the game altogether, because a lot of things in PVP players have no control over.
The development team's goal isn't to punish players for participating in the game. So it's not very likely they will institute a PVP death penalty.
Or if they do, like the PVE one they're already talking about ... it will be OPTIONAL.
...a pvp dp in this sort of pvp set up isn't worth while. Its not like Klingons or Star Fleet is having a pvp campain in some sector, where one side can gain ...ground... Shadowbane, all pvp all around, no option, ur dp is lower stats. SB, ur guild/city survives or dies. AoC, pvp servers, I don't recall dp for open pvp, except when u die by a npc.
STO, pvp, = fun, despite the many comments about this or that. Win or Loser, you get something from the match.
