I would like the Y axis limit to be removed, so that I can do a complete loop in space and in battle. I would also like to do barrel rolls with my ship X axis.
Sorry guys. The game was made with these limits purposely to keep the game feeling more like Trek and to make the game playable by as many people as possible.
Star Trek has a history of film space in a very tall starships sort of way. It was decided that to allow full 3d space flight would remove that feeling from the game and make it feel less Trek-like.
Also, though many people can deal with a fully 3D environment there are many others that would not and would find the game too difficult or annoying to continue playing. The current style reaches the largest demographic possible and alienates no one. This is important when you're making a game you want more than 100 people to play.
Sorry, but the limits to the Y and X axis are here to stay. I'm not sure the game engine would even be capable of such a change.
There is another issue in this as well. Turn rates would work in all three dimensions. Escorts already have a huge advantage in the turn rate field, you would only multiply the issue if it was available in a third axis. Add to that some ppl's inability to function in more than 2 axis, and, well.. you would drive a lot of ppl off.
Don't get me wrong, I would LOVE three dimensional combat, but I also understand why it's not there. (and shouldn't be)
I think plenty of people who play MMOs are smarter than "the masses" are given credit for.
Sure they might drive off some people who can't adapt, but I think that as many people would be attracted to the game by this feature as have been driven off.
Unless you're trying to tell us that smart people don't deal with Atari/Cryptic. Then you might have a case.

As much as I very want to agree with you... I think the phrase "where's sulu?" speaks for its self... I'm not sure how many of those maintained their subsciption... but...

Well the current method of reaching areas above or below you also doesn't feel very much like Star Trek.
I've never seen in a Star Trek show or movie a starship doing spirals up or down to reach an area above or below them.
"These are the spirals of the star ship Enterprise. Boldly spiraling up and down in space where others just move up and down."
Thoose arguing that "it feels more trek" when not being able to loop, should think back to such episodes as ENT: The Expanse, where Archer loops above a klingon BoP to get behind it, or DS9:Fortune Favors The Bold (either that one or the next), where the Defiant loops around a Bug ship, to take it down from behind.
It would also remove the anoying PvP thing where everyone ASAP rushes to the top of the map to have a better position.

Uhm that sounds more like you are making a point for removing those limits.
Trek is 3D and the corkscrewing drives a lot of people nuts.

Actually the ships should be able to move in the Z-axis, plus and minus. That means up and down without tilting. See "Star Trek: The Wrath of Khan" for how that works, in the Mutara Nebula battle.
The corkskrew is definately wrong. The last captain in Star Trek with two-dimensional piloting was Khan ("Wrath of Khan") and that didn't work out too well for him. I can understand limiting pitch axis, but it is too overdone in STO and feels very un-Star Trek-like. Split the difference and allow near vertical pitch manuvers or add a Z-Axis.
Or possibly a combination of both where sharp/lprolonged Y-Axis movement triggers + or - Z to be added. Have the rate dependent on turning rates.
I'm OK without full 3d movement, but I would like to see some steeper pitch angles.
What I really REALLY want are 3 new command Keys
1] Pitch Down - takes you automatically to full dive.
2] Pitch Up - takes you automatically to full climb.
3] Level Off - takes you automatically to level flight.
Did I mention I really REALLY want these ? Please?

And on that point we disagree.

There are just way to many cases where what I want is directly below me or above me.
