OK, we all know that in the heat of combat these items can slip the human eye easily. I think I found a solution to the problem that does not require a patch.
I noticed something yesterday while playing STO and confirmed my theory this morning with a phone call to an old college buddy of mine who is an Optometrist.
I would bet that most of us play this game in the evening hours and turn off the lights in the computer room so that our High Def monitors look pretty. However, this is not recommended. Here's why:
Supposedly, the human brain processes images differently depending on the light signals the brain receives. Also the pupils are fully dilated thus magnifying existing light. Your eyes and brain are trying to process quantum explosions, blooms, that bright star in the background, and the white stream of my Tetryon cannons hitting your shields. In a dark room this can be an overload to the optic nerve and the human brain. Sometimes images will blend and thus disappear. THIS IS NOT A REULT OF A GAME GLITCH! This is a brain glitch.
Try playing with the room lighting on and see if you can now see your mouse pointer and all the other tiny icons if running at maximum res.
Regarding buffs/debuffs I would like it to see two new UI windows with buffs/debuffs symbols which look not all the same. Another reason why STO needs playermade custom UI, community could make that very fast and it's not comprehensible why Cryptic still not alow UI modding. It could help the game so much ... sad.
I think this is why buffs and debuffs have icons, so when you are affected by them, you can see it, in case you missed the effect when you were hit with it.
Only a few of the abilities don't do this, and mostly are related to the ones the borg fire at you.
This is likely because we don't know what we're being hit with, but that's speculation.
Whether it's your brain, eye, or whatever, it doesn't change the fact that I want the option for a MUCH BIGGER MOUSE POINTER.
At high res, and in the chaos of battle, it's really hard to see the existing pointer.
Exactly my thoughts !
Playing with lights on in the room doesnt really cut it.
Is it so difficult to make an option for the size of the pointer ?
Besides ,my pointer is not only small and hard to see ,when i keep it clicked it....disappears completely:eek:
Till u figure out whats happening you are "incapacitated" for good..!

I'm REALLY relieved that others are experiencing this problem. I thought I was starting to get OLD............
Every now and then I see one of these threads popping up all over the place.

Also you can set up in your mouse option in control panel to make a ring flash around the pointer when you press control. It ads a ring around it so you can find it. You just have to hold it for a couple of seconds.
I have always thought the mouse cursor in this game is insanely small and since its only a white outline of a pointer, it gets lost very easily in the heat of battle. Finding it in order to click on my power tray sometimes results in lots of frustration.
Option to make it bigger/smaller? Mouse trails? Different color choices?
Its easier for me to see a crosshair in a first person shooter than it is to see a mouse pointer in an rpg. Lights on or off I don't even game with the lights off anymore.
I SOOOOO thought that I was the only one experiencing this problem. Thank God it's not just me. As far as using the ctrl click option for finding your mouse it does work. However it works when you release the ctrl key. So just click and release a few times.
I do agree they need to do something about this. Also some upgrades to the UI are in order too. At the higher levels I'm getting so many abilities that I have no way to keep em all on a tray. Since I lose 5 slots on my tray already for shield reconfiguration. I hate trying to click on the part of the shield I'm trying to reinforce.
Dammit Jim! I'm a button masher, not a mouse clicker!!

Besides, I'd rather see a list in green/red text:
Rapid Fire III
Attack Pattern Alpha
Viral Matrix III

Where my cursor is would be a moot point if STO would provide decent joystick and game board support.

Which doesn't seem to work in STO. So sorry.
