This isn't breaking really - developers have stated this in interviews for months.

I know but if Tiger Woods tee time is breaking news in America then this can easily qualify...

Breaking news? This is old news. Microsoft and Sony want to essentially double dip MMORPGs on there systems. That is why there will ever always only be 2 MMORPGs on consoles

The reasons are "business" related... i.e. money. I'm starting to worry...

    lol...

no, I'm willing to bet it's the issue of actually 'working with' Microsoft or Sony that's killed the progress.

Well, I think this is good news. I don't see how you could play STO with a 360 controller. Activating all your bridge officer powers in space alone would be a big task. It's one thing if you can pause the game to issue orders like Dragon Age, but you obviously can't do that with a MMO. Plus, if the console version's dead, hopefully it'll remove any restrictions they kept because of it (I heard a rumor that's why they gimped space autofire, and it was a internet rumor, so it must be true)

they always said it was unlikely that they would do one for consoles. not to mention mmos are not easy to transfer over at the best of times. they are more suited to a pc with a mouse and keyboard

if it had gone over it would have been even more watered down

Cryptic has said for a long time that they wanted to get both Champions Online and Star Trek Online available for consoles, and that their game engine was specifically designed with both PC and Console functionality in mind.

However, I for one am glad to hear that they've finally given up on this idea. Now maybe they can stop worrying about console functionality and just concentrate on making the game function correctly on PCs.

I agree. I'd rather see a game work effectively on one platform than "kinda" on different ones. Although I would wonder if the engine can be expanded upon for the PC now, or if it is sort of locked into it's present design without a full rewrite.

Craig keeps stating that "the console version of Star Trek Online is on the back burner", so only time will tell, interesting thread topic though...

I personally abandoned consoles a long while ago, used to adore them and think PCs were inferior. LoL

It was an assinine initative that was bound to fail . Unfortunately we're left with this ba5tard child , that will never see the light of day on console ( which was the preferred platform , fyi for those that didn't realize ) and is basically a gimped functioning retardation on PC. Had they begun with a commitment to have this on PC and then port it open the game play , the UI , maps etc would have easily been of better quality .

Yeah a bunch of people will come out and say this isn't true and will say this or that about consoles. The facts are that games that are on both platforms are limited in scope and what they are capable of and the limiting factor is consoles. So now the Star Trek community is left with this half-TRIBBLE POS to deal with . Great job Cryptic , fantastic strategy.

Once STO will have Exploration, Diplomacy, POSs, Open Universe, Warp Travel, Social Features, Seeking Out New Life and New Civilizations and Boldy Going, maybe they will release it on consoles too.
