How to Save Screenshots from a movie?

SystemSystem Member, NoReporting Posts: 178,019 Arc User
Ok, so I want to take a screenshot from a DVD. So, like STO, when I watch the movie, I prress 'print screen" and hthen I have it copied. From there, I can paste it to a word document. But how to I save it to "my pictures"? I'm running Windows 7, btw.

Not exactly a technical issue, and not even about sto. At any rate, if you actually can get a screen shot of a dvd with just print screen, just open up paint and paste it there. However last I checked, most videos don't let you just press print screen to capture a screenshot, to do this you'll generally need a third party player or any player that support save image options.

Most third party dvd players have a button or key combo that will take a screenshot of a playing dvd.
You would have to look at your player help menu on what to use.

you could always try using a thirdparty app like fraps but there are a lot of free and not so free screenshot apps. afaik so long as frps is running in the background it will grab a screenshot of any screen that is running in the foreground not tried it with DvD's though, fraps dumps all screenshots to a file each time the capture button is pressed

I was under the impression CBS/paramount had eased up a litte on this stuff? Like how the fan films etc are now allowed as long as they are not used commercially in any way? Or is it different because actuall original material is being used?

Fair use of copyrighted material is a very complex field, and I lack the 20 years of legal training to say anything more than "Cryptic Studios encourages you to consult with a lawyer if you have any questions about copyright law" :-)
