crashing started today

Ok so looks like i got a crashing bug or something. I'll start off by saying up until today i havent crashed once since game launch. I got stuck a few times in big dig where i would just stand in one place and i had to beam to ship and abort mission to unfreeze but that only happened maybe twice in the last 2 or 3 weeks so it was no big deal.
Now starting today i log in, start playing and within the first 5 minutes it says oops, game client has crashed and i end up on my desk top with no game up. For info purposes i'm not even doing anything but either standing or walking around earth spacedock when this happens. Last night and every day since launch i was playing fine without any problems so i dont understand why this has started happening.
Also havent installed any new hardware, no new programs, no new drivers for anything no nothing so basically the exact same system with the exact same set up was working fine up until today, so what gives?
When i crash i get no messages stating why or what for so i dont know where to begin to look for problems. Did a force verify for whatever thats worth but it did squat. My computer is fine otherwise and have no problems of any kind with it and its only like 4 months old.

for reference purposes iis got an i7 intel processer, 8 gigs of ram, and im using a nvidia GTX260 video card. I'd appreciate if anyone can tell me what or where i should be looking for problems or what i can try to stop crashing every 5 minutes. Also just for knowledge my video card setting arent even close to maxxed out for setting so i cant really say its because of that, but any help with what to do or look for would be a blessing. Thank You!

.. its the latest patch, for most people (including me) it's crashing during ground combat.. also with the latest patch, is graphic slow down and lighting / shadow anomolies/artifacts... so i'd say the crashing is something they've done wrong with visual effects in the programme code.

since most are crashing at a time when there are alot of visual effects and changes going on. if you're crashing just standing there i would either change the driver settings in the nvidia control panel, or game settings.... i've tried both on my ati machine but for me they're so random i cant tell if it's doing anything.

I've gone ahead and moved this thread directly to the PC & Technical Issues forum. Those folks are generally very helpful for hunting down technical stuff leading to crashes.

    Good luck!

Uhm. How bout some dev's from Cryptic respond... My system is having problem where monitor just shuts down into power saving mode, rest of system is frozen (I know because ventrillo stops responding and keyboard lcd stays where it is)
    Running win7 64bit with 2x geforce 9800gx2 on xfx780i 8gig ocz reaper mem and intel q9450.
This is the only thing that gives me any type of crashing problems. I run many more power demanding games/apps then this without having issues. and it isn't a heat issue.
Attempted updating to new drivers not sure if it will crash with them but ran to slow and crappy to play.
Revereted back and dealing with constant shut downs..

Cryptic needs to handle this problem.

I've started crashing too, been playing since Open Beta & not had any problems until yesterday - 5th April. It only occurs during Ground Combat, the only part of STO I enjoy. Unlike normal game crashes this just seems so 'sudden'.

Yesterday I was pretty convinced it was something to do with the Graphics & Lighting, but could not be sure.

I just got around to doing this mission and before I can beam down to the planetiod, the thing slaps me with a decompression error, it does seem repatching or reverifying is helping
