A complaint about Shanty Town

Well, I think it's a bit note-worthy, but I must admit to admiring the tactics.

The main complaint I have is about re-spawn points in this map; you always spawn in the same area. I've seen teams from both sides basically push to the other side's respawn point, taking out laser turret defenses as they go and sitting there, shooting at any respawning players.

This effectively locks down most players. Meanwhile, one or two players from the team doing the lock-down, go to the side, destroy turrets, and upload the virus. Rinse, and repeat.

Mind you, it's good strategy to win, but frustrating for the losing team. Even if they attempt to run to their computer terminal to stop/defend it, the enemy team can chase after them, shooting them in the back, then go back to the enemy re-spawn point all while the defeated player's respawn timer clicks down.

More needs to be down in these particular areas. Either stronger turrets for just this area or another re-spawn point or two. From the look of the map and speculation on my part, it seems the one respawn point should be safe, so strengthening the turrets defenses, damage output, or both should be considered. Conversely, maybe moving the single respawn point to the defender's database would be best, although that could also cause problems (respawns interferring with downloading viruses).

This even happens in 5 man teams. One can just sweep en masse to the spawn area, wiping turrets. Then a few members stay and lock down an area while one or two download the virus for extra points; not that they need to, IMO, but it is faster to win that way than just staying and killing over and over.

Both sides are guilty of this tactic; I've seen all four ways, taking and receiving, Fed and Klingon.

I have to agree, even though I've never lost a match in Shantytown. The game degrades to the point of simple spawn camping.

Seriously, these types of design flaws have to make me wonder if the designers have ever played another game before.
