It is plasma proc stacking improperly.
After reading the posts here I decided to check my combat log parse for the last pvp match that seemed to have a few of these incidents.
In each case where I took damage to my hull while shields were up and close to full. I began receiving plasma fire damage that increased extremely fast.

Edited events to show the specific dot damage being done by plasma fire.

Initial second of combat
Event1 (hit by plasma beam array player a) started with 68 plasma fire per second
Event 2 (hit by plasma beam array player b) an additional 43 plasma fire per second
Event 4 (hit by plasma beam array player c) an additional 59 plasma fire per second

Total plasma fire damage 170 per second

2nd second of combat
Event7 (hit by plasma beam array player e) an additional 51 plasma fire per second
Event 8 (hit by plasma beam array player b) an additional 44 plasma fire per second
Event 11 (hit by plasma beam array player a) an additional 55 plasma fire per second
Event13 (hit by plasma beam array player b) an additional 46 plasma fire per second
Event 14 (hit by plasma beam array player e) an additional 58 plasma fire per second
Event 16 (hit by plasma beam array player c) an additional 52 plasma fire per second
Event 17 (hit by plasma beam array player b) an additional 53 plasma fire per second
Event19 (hit by plasma beam array player e) an additional 44 plasma fire per second
Event 22 (hit by plasma beam array player a) an additional 54 plasma fire per second
Event 26 (hit by plasma beam array player c) an additional 48 plasma fire per second

At the end of 2 seconds of combat I am taking a total of 675 plasma fire per second

After this the log gets kind confusing because I take so much other damage I die.

The net effect of this was each time a plasma beam hit its dot stacked with the others so after a few seconds the final magnitude of plasma fire damage was 4322 per second. The dots cannot be removed fast enough using hazard emitters or engineering team as they would only remove the last to dot applied. They burn for 15 seconds inevitably you will run out of BO tools to combat the dots and die.

I am pretty sure that plasma dots are not supposed to stack in this manner. I believe they were supposed to only stack from different players but for some reason it is allowing multiple dots from the same player. Perhaps this is a bug where it is only checking to see if the preceding dot came from the same player, ie it is only checking one or two back. Granted I was being fired on by 4 ships but the increases in the proc were completely bypassing my shields.

Only viable defensive measures are plasma resists on hull armor, engineering team, aux to structural, and hazard emitters. These skills can only increase your resistance to the dot lowering the damage you take.

I think you will need a team
someone else to lay down thier dot so your second will stick
ie layer the dots every other player fires in a sequence so they stack

plasma fire on the parser is the dot
numbers are showing this as a major contributor to damage where it should not be

Then what is it becuase I have seen my cruiser die in 5 seconds with full shields.
I haver also seen cannons take down my shields in one volley then a few Overloaded torps put me down.
thats with 9k in shields huge star cruiser hull, with RSPs, hazzard emiiters, science and engineering teams.

Something in the last patch has destroyed pvp balance or at the very least made cruisers a waste of time in pvp.

Plasma was changed to stack damage in the season 1 patch. Previously it just extended the duration of plasma damage or something like that. I'm not sure if that's the actual culprit of your ship exploding or not.

quite possible the same effect with anti proton in t5 as when it procs it bypasses shields this effect may work for the entire rapid fire sequence?
would a single dual heavy anti proton weapon firing sequence pop a ships hull?

rapid fire III anit proton DHC fires......proc....all damage goes strait to hull

i do not believe that this is thier proc i believe they have higher chance to crit

So you are certain all those plasma fire damage applications were not the individual delivery of plasma fire damage of the DoT, but in fact all new DoTs being applied on top?

Because once a DoT is applied, you'll get individual reports of the DoT's damage each time until it expires.

    damn...does that even make sense?

Plasma is good allright, i can not confirm 100% it bypasses the shields, but it does punch a hole if used correctly. So i hate to say i can not confirm nor deny. i still think that Anti Proton is GOD in this.
