Is anyone else finding the game boring yet

I have another character but I find that once I have got the space pvp daily (I don't particularly want to do it but some idiot dev decided to make the pvp stuff from marks better than the exploration stuff and I don't want to be disadvantaged in hard fleet actions etc) over with I've lost all enthusiasm to play, it's so boring and repetitive I don't see what people see in it... the same with the exploration really, even when borg appear they are usually done wrong taking people hostage etc acting like any other character, or the cool-lookingness of the borg infected planets ruined by overuse (like on maps where there is supposedly ancient alien artifact radiation harming colonists, yet they are on a planet that has even the ground assimilated you'd think that would be the least of problems..) ..there's just no depth to the story part of the game at all it's just tacked onto the killing and "loot" part of the game which gets old fast like city of heroes... it's not like the exploration videos on http://startrekonline.com/videos advertised it at all
Jump off a cliff if that's your attitude, that just because not everyone likes the same thing as you that they are somehow inferior. Pathetic...
Some of us just like games with actual depth more than just soulless "pimp-my-spaceship" money-chasing geekery
It's for the kind of people who need to be "pwning people online" to compensate for their own lack of self worth

    LOL
    Sup?

I found the game boring quite awhile ago. I haven;t logged into the game for about two weeks (maybe longer), with the exception to patch the client.

I've gone back to EVE which is a much better product. STO (like Enterprise) is another embarrassment in the franchise, in my personal opinion. What pains me, is that the community expressed what they wanted before its release, and expressed clearly that they wanted a finished, and polished product.

    We didn't get that.

Eve is a snoozefest, Yes My guy over there has 14,000,000 skill points. Played on and off for about a year. Eve does not appeal to the masses, its a sandbox game. If that game is more suited for you, then I wish you the best. Since your a lifer, you can always come back and check to see the new patches/seasons.

Personally, I am leveling alts up, hoping more content comes out before I max them out, or I might have to sub to another mmo(no I wont say) for a bit till newer content comes.

Not bored yet but I do hope they revamp crafting and exploration, and create some serious diplomacy system in the near future. That would help make the game a lot more addictive, well rounded, and less likely to get old.

Come play EVE with me, Commander Reed!

Ive thought about it. My EvE character sent me an E-mail inviting me back! Im not kidding. He said he was lonely and it was hard to train up due to my absence. I thought it was hilarious. I saved the e mail just in case I wanted to do that. It gave me one free day in order to buy a plex and keep playing.

I'll consider it. I think I have until the 14th.

But I got pretty burned out with EvE too unfortunately. But that took me 7 months. STO only took me a month and a half and for the first month I barely played it because of the lack of content.

Anyways, I've been enjoyed a modded version of Freelancer and I still have Mass Effect 2 sitting on my desk which I havent even tried playing yet. :o

7 titans got popped last night, i doubt the 300+ person fleets were snoozing.
Of course, they did not ask for reinforced mode either, so some of them were probably staring at blackscreens. May as well be snoozing :p

I honestly go back and forth. The basic combat mechanics I still find entertaining even if the actual things I'm doing (mainly Exploration because it offers the most variety but it desperately needs more) are pretty repetitive. I also enjoy looking at my ships, running around with NPC crew on away teams, and occasionally doing things in groups or with fellow roleplayers.

The bloom is off the rose though. I'll always make it on for my Exploration daily with my main character and, if I'm in the mood, I'll switch over to an alt I'm working on. Lately I've been on a bit more because the new patch and respec have given some new life to my main and my enthusiasm is carrying over to the alt grind too. But I suspect unless we get some more meaty PvE solo/small group content in I'll be wandering off again until the next big update.

I really get a sense that in a year STO will be where I need it to be if they develop the right things that create more momentum for the RP community and for the casual/solo gamers. I'm a broken record on this but we need radically expanded Exploration content with more variation both among mission types and within individual missions (granularity of randomization). After that player generated content, Fleet Starbases and functional bridges/ship interiors.

Then this puppy will have some legs on it.

I agree with you for the most part Oddball. My biggest concern now (and was even before the game released) is will Cryptic succeed at maintaining a player population during the time they are developing to make this game great.

Lets be honest, having people wait an ENTIRE year after a game's release in order for it to be at a point where you can fully enjoy it... that doesn't seem like the most practical approach to propelling STO to reaching its Maximum potential for success. As for me, I'm strapped in because I bought a LTS... and I'm feeling a bit of the burn, because I can not play the game for more than an hour without getting bored. This screams of a F2P model, rather than a subscription model. As it is, I've put down 200 some $$ on this game for it to get to a point where I can enjoy it a year later? I might as well saved the money and just cancelled my sub, and came back in a year. Or is it our responsibility now to support companies who release sub-par unfinished products? This is a serious question to consider, and I truly am not trying to be inflammatory.

Aren't you the least bit disappointed with how Cryptic/Atari handled STO's development and release, and with the ultimate product? I just re-watched the video review at Gamespot and you can just plainly tell, that despite all the negative feedback they have on the game, they are truly heart broken due to the let down of the final launch product.

Seriously, will people still be around in a year when the game is supposedly rad? Unless I've overslept and the gamer demographic suddenly became loyal, docile, non-nomadic, and patient... I see Cryotic needing to pull some pretty amazing stunts to keep this game from going down like the Andrea Doria. Thats just my personal opinion of course. Regardless, food for thought :)

SERIOUSLY, you should come back! I just started a new toon, and already I'm loving all the things they've done with the previous two expansions. CCP is a solid developer, and the universe is vast. In any case, in my opinion the biggest draw to EVE is the way it foster community and cooperation, so if you're in and amongst friends, it can be loads of fun. We can do exploration together in low sec space. Come onnn! I'm an Amarrian, Rytha Main... hit her upp!

how can you say eve online??? It's like they took the worst things about this game but amplified them... WOW that game is boring as hell, I tried it before because I saw some other idiot raving about it :) it's just sooo impersonal and dorky, even more "press button to cast magic powers" type combat than this, and it's all just centred on spaceships it's just like sad boys thinking that lumps of metal with wheels on them make them look cool :) and there's absolutely 0 story or characters, and the players who are supposed to be a subsitute are pretty boring people too so it doesn't really work... it's basically just ayn rand in space, the only important thing is money. Yawn

zaneluke: Yeah I remember someone saying one of the really crappy missions I was talking about "the doom machine" (giant ice cream cone that comes out of nowhere with no explanation of what it is other than "ITS THE DOOM MACHINE") was based off some episode but it's like they try to use it as a crutch rather than actually having genuine story depth they just try throw in references seemingly not realising that a lot of us won't get them and it definitely doesn't stand up on it's own...

    What STO Needs

    1. Inside ship missions and battle view and interaction on the bridge is a must for any ST MMO game to survive as far as I am concerned. There should be dozens of missions on and to do with the ship. Random ship issues, viruses, diplomatic transports and aliens and repair missions.
    2. Slower advancement or more levels to advance through. I have been playing LOTRO and I'm just now 60th level. We should be LTC for at least a good 6 months if not longer and Capt for a year. If this is going to hold anyone’s attention for any amount of time. At the current rate we will all be Admirals in 6 months.
    3. Crafting and Diplomatic Stature. Diplomatic missions should be required to move from one rank to another and Battle experience as well. Certain number of enemies killed or captured.
    4. Too much death. I can't believe every Capt. of every ship is wanting to fight to the death. Some should randomly surrender after their ship is disabled. Maybe we get merit for taking prisoners or skill for it or equipment and tech from the capture.
    5. Death penalty. No one should die it runes the concept of any MMO. After your ship is disabled you should be disabled and the screen should fade gray or red, then the bottom should say hail star fleet. You hail star fleet and are toed back to a star base for repairs and more crew. Crew need to be more realistic they don't just respawn. You should need to pick up new crew at star bases. Till then your efficiency of your ship should be less till you are up to full crew status.
    6. Missions must be able to be failed, not just a run through from A then do B then C. It must give us some sort of way to vary the results and fail. Missions should also have multi parts not just mostly take place in one area of a planet. Planets are huge and I have only seen small area of any one of them in this game. Have multiple missions to the same plant.
    7. Need to have more of a reason to help each other and raids for lower level players.
    8. Allow us to transwarp to other places then Sol. Have us achieve levels of warp proficiency and gain access to direct point jumps by warp.
    9. Sector Space needs to be more like a map. With less detail and faster movement. It feels too much like its what you would see if out in space and that’s wrong.

I have been in since beta and now that season one is out I see very little that has changed. This game could be great, but nothing is fully developed. I hope this is just the beginning but I don't know if people will wait around to see. I hope so, but I just don't know...

Also that's a counterstrike joke video you posted......

"sad boys" and "boring people"- gratz on insulting every EVE player on these forums, that's bound to work in your favor;)

Eve is a sandbox. You make your own ride there, if you fail at this it's your own fault.
StO is a "theme Park" and you have run out of rides.....I can relate i ran out 2 weeks after launch.
Have fun breeding tribbles between lightweight and lacking "episodes" I guess, because no, this game is not going to get better or deeper. Only more of the same.

And lets not mention that I feel like im the ship, I dont feel like im captaining the ship...I feel like I am a space whale.

No thanks, i'll go play the good game and pay them instead of paying cryptic in the hopes that they will get it right someday

If they get it right, maybe i'll pay them.
Probably not at this point tho because I'm really furious with them for TRIBBLE this game up so badly.

EVE is one of those uncommon MMO success stories that parallels WoW on a smaller scale in some ways (but not all). Going from 5,000 to 300k active subscribers and continuing to grow is astounding. STO went from 1 million "accounts" to something like over 100k subs... hmmm... I wonder if STO really has the strength to actually become great in the end.

As it is STO's player retention is questionable as with the above stated facts. Couple this with the increasing observations of former fanbois turned critics, and the growing number of lifetime subscribers crying "I'm board". People are "waiting, waiting, waiting" for STO to get good, because it isn't.

LoTRO, EVE, WoW were good at their launches. I won't say STO is not (because thats a matter of opinion), but I can say that the majority consensus is: STO is a huge disappointment (IGN, Gamespy, Gamespot, Eurogamer, 1up, MMORPG.com, PC Gamer, the list goes on...). Those companies are known for their polish, resources, innovation, and standards of quality, so you could expect those games to grow and become what they are today. We can't say the same about Cryptic unfortunately.

CoX was their premiere title, and even at launch it was just a small superheroe MMO. It is no longer handled by them, but is being developed by Paragon studios, and even then the Cryptic product which has been out for a few years hasn't managed to go past 150k subs. Look at the state of Champions Online currently and what state it is is... can you honestly say with a reasonable amount of confidence that Cryptic can deliver in the end? You can't say "yes, because its Star Trek, and they'd be fools not too", well with that point I beg the question "then why did they launch STO in the state that it was in? If they really cared about the IP, they would have let this game stay in the oven until it was good and ready. Correct me if I'm wrong :)

I'm not saying STO will not become great in the future. What I am saying however is... I can confidently say that I am completely uncertain (and not in the good way) of STO's future. As for STO becoming better than EVE... prognosis negative :p (naturally, different strokes for different folks. but you may be in the minority)
