Newbie question here: I am confused over how many bridge officers I can have active at once. Based on advice I've seen here it looks like having a space team and ground team is a decent strategy, but I seem to have maxxed out at 4 officers in rotation.
I've acquired two other candidates, but they seem to only be able to train an existing officer and depart. I can't even figure out how I would go about replacing one of my existing 4 with one of them if I wanted.
you get 2 new bridge officer slots per rank advancement. For some reason, you don't get new slots at Captain, but you do at Admiral, which means that at the current max level you can have 10 BOs. since the tier 5 ships have 5 consoles for BOs and you can take 4 on the ground, that'll let you have two completely separate teams if you wanted.
You can dismiss them if you want. There'll be times when you're rewarded a BO and you mnay want to do that. Or, you may want to use the new BO to train one of the current ones.
You can decide who goes away with you on away missions. Heck, you can go with a full team of security instead of BOs if you really wanted to. You don't have to accept the rotation. Just click the person's name in the ground team roster and replace him with whomever you want.
For the longest time, I used only 5 of my 10 Bridge Officers. 3 where on both my Space and Away teams, and a Tac would step in for my 2nd engineer on Away teams.
But you will begin to discover that you want to try out different skill sets and you will have plenty of BO skill points to distribute. You have so many skill point in fact, that you will not mind retraining a few of your current BOs skills or at least a better gambit of skills across all your BOS. And even if you stay with one ship type, you will be able to buy 2 different ships at RA. For example, for an engineer, an Assault and Star Cruiser. The Assault has 2 Tac stations, while the Star has 2 Science stations.
Now I have 8 of my 10 BOs with specific tasks - I have differing setups for my Assault and Star Cruiser. I have differing setups if I am PvPing, if I am facing races that drop mines, if I am soloing, etc.
