I think that infected could be improved, or they could leave it as it is and start working on new content all together.
Infected is a challenge I admit that but as long as you have a group of people that know what they are doing it becomes much easier.
But I like and agree with your point, but maybe when they come out with the slider bar, you may beable to complete it solo or with a couple people.
But I am not sure what the slider bar will all effect in the PvE stand point. i will go look it up for my own good.
IMO it's not the amount of difficulty but the type. A slog through mobs that feels nearly interminable (though easy, once your group gets the hang of engaging the spawns effectively), and then a final room that basically consists of just jumping through hoops. And a bossfight that may as well be Simon Says.
What I've heard about The Cure makes me want to do it even less. Disabling Cover Shield and Force Dome in a room just to make getting a breather to click the glowies harder? WTF? Way to make Engineers feel loved by invalidating pretty much their only useful innate skill.
one of the main issues for me is the jumping at the end, throughout the entire game from level 1 to level45 no jumping is required in any mission. NOWHERE in the game requires you to master jumping to complete a level.
Then up pops infected which requires you to be able to judge jumps and time them perfectly. Or missions that require you to be able to set controls as a team.
The other main issue is its so unforgiving you die EVERYONE has to reset the room back to stage one.
I did it a few weeks back with some peeps who knew what they were doing. we got all the room down the borg queen come flying into the room BOOM everyone dead.
Didnt even have a chance to survive just insta dead and the whole room reset.
After doing that 2 or 3 times we just gave up
Cryptic please listen ITS NOT FUN TO INSTA DIE ANYWHERE

I agree totally that, the missions should be more diversivied in type rather then just difficulty. We should beable to change the difficulty with the slider Cyptic plans to implemtent soon.
I think we are in a good direction for cryptic to actually implement more types of missions rather than having to focus any more attention to how hard missions are. People will now beable to customize the difficulty more to suit their own needs.

I agree there needs to be more jumping missions, but I dont know about that plasma stuff being under neath you   maybe a smaller penalty like a mud pit that slows your charachter down but not instant death. But instant death has its fun points too.
Infected with assortedmembers of my fleet usually takes about an hour and 15 minutes. When I lead it, I like to think of it as a surgical strike.
Same for me. Personally, I really enjoy it. Its the goddamn BORG people. They are supposed to whoop your freakin' butt constantly. It should be an uphill battle the entire time. That way its alot more satisfying when you come out on top alive.

You should have heard the shouts of joy last night when my group and i completed our Infected run after having taken a break from previous attempt(2 of us had done it before, rest hadent)
However i much look forward to Season 3 when STF's will become well worth the effort.
And seriously, what is up with the thread necro? Could you have picked an older thread? There have been plenty of other threads discussing this STF that are more up to date.
And seriously, what is up with the thread necro? Could you have picked an older thread? There have been plenty of other threads discussing this STF that are more up to date.
It was the most relevant that came up on google (since forum search functions are below par). Next time I will make a million threads on the subject
STFs in this game don't really work because they try and tap into the "raider mentality" which really has no place in ths game. I can understand that group content can be a very useful tool in getting players together but if the experience isn't fun and interesting then said content will see little use and will therefore wind up just being a waste of resources. STFs need to be made easier so that they are a good time for a random group of 5 to finish together. The moment STFs become the "only thing worth doing" is the moment I quit this game forever.
I've just hit RA5 so haven't actually been through any STFs yet. Thanks for confirming what I feared, they're just super-long, super-hard missions designed to take hours to complete in the hope of getting loot, like raids in WoW (or at least the raids I've seen while watching friends play WoW).
I think I'll just make a new Klingon and play that instead...
Did Infected a few times (attempted I should say, so far only one completion) and its a mess. The mobs are too numerous and amazingly repetative. I've always said the enemies need to be fewer in number but stronger than your average mob.
Its a shame because STO desperately needs end game content and the STFs as they stand just dont cut it.
OP, your Critics are perfectly valid as far as i can tell. Though keep in mind that putting points in ground skills does make a huge difference. while you would have had many of the same problems, the hordes would have felt a bit less tedious, and the overall experience might have been a little bit less painful as a whole.
It's repetitive sure, they could remove 2-3 encounters, but it's also fairly easy once you know the order in which to shoot things and avoid aggroing more than 1 group at a time, my fleet farms it routinely and it never takes more than 2 hours, sometimes less than 1.
They're easy. I've only had trouble at the neginning of KA, and that's ship based, all others require proper strategy that's easy aquired on the forums and even in game. I really don't think people are even trying to do these missions properly. I think they just want to play poor me and whine about it.
Well we were told the STFs are going to get another revamp soon. But I think the concensus that the Boss fights in Infected, Cure, and Terrordrom was going to be revamped. Like with Infected, the Blocks were going to be removed. (Which makes sense, because I never liked them and don't understand why the Borg would do that anyhow.
Though I think it's too late, the only reason to do STFs now is for Science Captains to score the Borg Medical Kit and on to Khitomer for the Borg BO. Gamma Orionis is even more empty nowdays and those who are in it are doing the regular missions, leveling up in the DSEs or transiting from B'Tran.
So Cryptic really needs to up the ante in making it interesting for players to do. Like having STFs be a literal alternative to doing PvP Dailies for PvErs. And some unique rewards that replaces the old Mark of Valor gear (which is pretty much useless with MK XI Gear).
Part of the problem i encountered when the STF first came out, was the typical "trinity" expectations of elitist groups judging how your geared and saying "no" to letting you in. I was a Tac in a star cruiser speced for healing (someone seems to have not made the instructions clear that your BOFFS are the skill users the captain only has one edge-he can train to 3 in his areaa-which is NOT required to win something it just makes your skill higher bu so much a bonus). Unless tac's flew the "expected" escort they were being denied STF. Now, months later, most people KNOW BETTER that it does NOT matter what career/ship your using , i won infected wit ALL tacs using cruisers (not one single escort among us or sci ship). We complete streight through in i believe 40 mins , cleared the area ,killed the queen, bam. Before that i was like OP. I got fed up and said no over and over after the plasma deaths/rage quit SOL end fights. But the fleet i was in convinced me they could run me through it one smooth try because they did it EVERY week. It worked. But noone wants to do the Cure lol they all say that is the worst of the 3. I don't care about the Borg sci Boff from Khitomer accord, but the upcoming Borg ship upgrades i do want.

This is exactly the problem. Cryptic MMOs are designed to be casual (Cryptic have said this many times) and it is one of the appeals of CO and STO. In addition, the whole game can be solo'd. However, these "raids" then go to the opposite extreme where to be successful you require a vent server, a well-geared team, a team who you know well (not random strangers) and a team who know what to do. Added to this, I have heard lots of stories of people getting a lot of grief for not doing well in the raids (which obviously pushes alot of people away from STO). Cryptic really need to address these issues. Like I have said, STO is a lot of fun and teaming in some missions with fleet members e.g. some of the dailies, is some of the most fun I have had in any game. It is just a shame these raids let the game down and send out the wrong message. Lets be honest though, these were rushed into the game anyway to satisfy the community and the lack of endgame content - problem was, it was clear that they were rushed in and a lot of people left (including myself).
Right I'll probably get a few new hatemails because of this but what the heck:
Infected is a "prototype" of a raid so to speak, this *is* endgame content in it's proper form. I'm sorry to day it like this, but if you can't even manage Infected (I usually do it with 3 people instead of 5 even) then stay away from the other STFs. The only STF I can understand people criticizing is Terradome because it's so awfully bugged.
However, Infected, Cure and Khitomer are perfectly doable with a sound group of MOTIVATED people, not a bunch of tards wasting other people's time and to be very fair OP, I have had PLENTY of dealings with people that are annoying, not very interested and think they bloody know it all. It doesn't matter if your group leader is a veteran then or not, it's the crew he has to work with that needs to be able to perform. Sure the jumping in Infected can take a few tries but it isn't exactly rocket science. It's tactics and timing!
I see how Cryptic must be getting frustrated over the STFs, they're doing their best to add that type of endgame content but then you get a bunch of idiots complaining it's too hard because they can't even be bothered to do anything right, as in playing as a TEAM! I hope, REALLY REALLY HOPE that Cryptic keeps developing new STFs in the future as they are now, fun and challenging for serious groups.
Now if you want advice, help or even want me to come along a run you can always contact me on the condition that you're properly motivated and not just go along the ride for the prospect of getting a free purple. STFs are about working as a well oiled machine, not the pretty purple and badges you get.
I blame World of Warcraft for taking the Raid Concept and then put it into the minds of players that this was the only way to end-game. I blame WoW for taking the best of everything in it has (Items, story arcs, lore, and so forth) and restricting it to a single gameplay facet that is incompatible with many of it's players. It really does itself and the rest of the genre a disservice.
Cryptic, you should not try and reinvent the wheel with STFs since there is already a number of games that do end-game "raiding" much better and with a much larger interested playerbase. Instead, you should focus on your core audience and turn STFs into a fun experience for any 5 random players. Throwing loot that everyone wants into content that most of us hate is not going to make STFs any more popular. It'll just highlight your disconnect with your playerbase.
I'm actually with Meynolt on this one. You can pretty much run RA infected blindfolded, in handcuffs while hanging upside down from your bridge. Cure and KA require teamwork and attention. Pretty bad when the gate opens and a ship is facing the wrong direction or doesn't fire at all because they were 'busy chatting' or forgot which way they were facing...
Yes, I've seen infected runs go horribly wrong... I was listening in on voice when I heard the infamous 'OMG the borg are retaking the starbase!' Boz and I were on our klink alts and hooked up with a klink fleet run and it was so hilarious/frusterating that you wondered how they ever managed to level their characters and it is all due to people not paying attention or even caring.
I'm actually looking forward to the revamps and 'set gear' from the STFs. Also, if you are serious and need help with this stuff, there are PLENTY of people/fleets to help you, including ours, the Federation Fleet so don't freak out

Second and fastest run i ever made went well under 2 hours.
Also, what is with the thread necro? They have made several improvements to the STFs in the past 6 months.
They weren't evident. Still as bad as ever. At least the rest of the new content is fun.

Infected is less painful then rolling a Klingon
I can think of things doctors do less painful then rolling a Klingon.
I would rather have a root canal without the anesthetic.
Its a shame because STO desperately needs end game content and the STFs as they stand just dont cut it.
Otherwise, i agree with the other 90%
Just wait until you take a shot at cure and terradome.
