Filled out this one too, like the others before it, didn't have the time to get as indepth as I wanted, but then that would of taken hours of rambling :-)
Poll-Box-Too-Small-Syndrome. But I think it helps - rambling answers are difficult to evaluate.
Think what the date is..... even IF it is stickied it doesnt matter. I hightly doubt things that companies do on april fools day
Honestly though, if this guy is legit and really wants to help and gauge player feelings, you should do it IN GAME not on the forums.
Well,
I try to be legit
As to doing this phase of research in the game, it would be impractical, interviews, yes, surveys no, the spam would most likely annoy players who had no interest, and that would be unfair to them.
And just a reminder, I don't work for Cryptic or CBS, though I do have their permission for this research, for which I am grateful.
I do hope to see the results of this survey at some point. It's interesting to read peoples opinions. However I think it would be better to find a way to survey the player base, as there are many people who play the game that avoid the forums.
Forums attract certain kinds of personalities while at the same time pushing away others and it'd be interesting to see what the OTHER kind of individuals would have to say regarding the game too. I think if Cryptic bribed them with a few C-Points or something and advertised it on the main page you could much broader view of the STO player base.
Actully they should NOT do the polls on the forums. They should do the Polls on the log in screen so that more players can be polled. Because lets face it the forums are only a small portion of the players that play the game.
Yeah I've said that before too (bit in bold)... the people on the forum might as well be the illuminati as far as most people are concerned, though we are nowhere near as cliqueish as the dorks on city of heroes!
We have well over a hundred thousand players that never post on the forums. To be a responsible developer, we must approach these people and listen to their feedback, too. Polls, direct e-mails, newsletters, and the Advisory Council are some ways we can better tap this segment of our player base. Even if they ultimately don't work, we have to try.
But we have to try and engage more Star Trek fans and STO players who don't post on the forums, right? Forum users comprise a comparatively small segment of our playing population. We have to at least try to hear others in as many ways as possible.

Hello,
First, thanks for taking the time to consider the implications of my research choices.
I agree that just doing research on the forum side would provide a limited view of the STO player base, and that is why this is only one form of my research.
As to bribing research participants, ummm, I think we call it incentives
Done and done. Good luck Dr. Otto. With this group your going to need it.
Hehe,
Ive seen that this player base does have the capacity to let their feelings be felt, which is all to the good, unless you are on the receiving end of it when players are riled up, then duck!:mad:
Just a question, why does this deserve to be stickied when so many and I do mean many, other threads that raise legitimate concerns never get a sticky or even a dev post?
Because this is done by an actual researcher, and not someone trying to start an argument.
Actual research in the persuit of knowledge vs. some idiot trying to start a fight.
I got in my two cents. I liked the questions I had about the community. The community was one of the chief reasons I absolutly hated WOW. I hate eliteism...
Done and done... i look forward to seeing results. i would also like to know how serious Cryptic will be taking the answers about what we would like in the future.
i know there are PLENTY of posts in the forums filled with ideas( alot of hits and ALOT of misses) about things that people want.
im also very interested in the interviewing part... it will be interesting to see peoples emotional reactions when describing their experience with the game.
also, c-store points for filling it out.... not a bad idea there
I have finished your survey and I hope that you get the information that you require AND hopefully Cryptic will learn something from the results you share with them.
I really enjoyed your focus on community and what it means to our gaming experience. I am interested to see the results from your studies, I imagine it will be an excellent read
In regards to you doing research on community, are you going to continue doing surveys like this on community 1 year, 2 years, 5 years, 10 years down the line and see how the community of STO evolves?

Go Otto! this is the best feedback avenue the communities of STO have had and you've created an excellent questionnaire; I've filled it out and I hope my responses will assist you.
Anyway, I'm not participating in whatever government sponsored psy-ops thing you're researching here is. You can pass that refusal on to your handlers, doctor.
I finally got around to answering this survey. Have been meaning to but kept putting it off, luckily the boss is out today so I can do almost nothing today except answer surveys and catch up on the forums.

Good luck with the research anyway, Doctor! Hopefully people don't give you to much of a hard time.

Pretty cut and dry.

Good travels, dear Doctor!
Filled it out. Took me a bit longer that I expected, but I think it was well worth it.
Thank you for the time...
Hmmm,
Perhaps
Luck and fun out there,
Dr. Otto
And people call me paranoid. lol
I hope my answers are understandable and that my English is not too broken.
I'm sure they will be, and thank you for your time, and thanks to all who have participated thus far!
Luck and fun,
Dr. Otto
