I'm a Rear Admiral 5 and I got a Spock Voice Over congradulating me on a promotion along with a message that said I was promoted to RA6. Since then I've completed three missions but have received no further skill points.

On my most recently completed Mission (The Other Side) I noticed that the my Skill Points seem to now be going to my Bridge Officers.

Has anyone else noticed this?

Yeah, you've reached the skill/level cap.

*cough*that was hastily tacked on near the end of development and the skill system is borked because they didn't design it to work with a limited budget*cough*

Not exactly true... The Dev's in other posts have indicated that higher levels are reserved for future releases, with talk that the 'skill cap' will be raised when 'Season_Two' is released...

By which they mean finally un-cutting RA 6-10, which will be a whole extra 12k skillpoints... be still my heart.

The problem, though, is that the system at current doesn't work well under any cap because of the nonsensical level-gating and price differential placed on skill purchases for skills that affect weapons of equivalent effect and BO powers of equivalent level. I'm particularly 'amused' by Admiral skills that affect powers we and our BOs get as Lieutenants and Lieutenant Commanders.

While I would still prefer the originally-advertised system, I'd gladly settle for a design that actually makes sense when trying to plan a skill budget.

    Um, wait, so *THAT'S IT*?!?

I'm RA5 and I'm stuck here? I don't even get to RA10? WTF? There are many more skills I've got yet to increase. Are you serious?

I paid for a Lifetime Subscription, and I've peaked, beating the game after only about three weeks of play?

    :mad::mad::mad:

    Seems I've wasted $380!

i dont see how this current system isnt made for a skillcap. the way its set up is pretty much the way it is for other mmos that let you invest points into skills. its called specialization or specification of a class. the term "respec" is short for respecification, where you change the specifics of your job.

by your argument people should retroactively complain about diablo 2 because they cant max out points in all skills of the skilltree.

In systems designed for a cap, the branching of specializations is designed to make sense. In STO, they're kinda all lumped together except segregated nonsensically by rank-gating (past the first two ranks, at least - that's where things stop getting any more specific) and differentiated pricing that isn't tied to scope or power of effect.

Well, that is why the option of respec'in is allowed...

Respec and load the points into skills you like, or make you more effective...
i.e. Those two skill points you put in Warp Core Engineering as a lark, you can respec, and load them into Vectors instead...

There is a point to be made by not allowing players to 'max-out' every single available skill, and forcing them to make 'hard decisions' on what skills they think are important.

    My $0.02 Energy Credits worth...

Well, he's not retroactively complaining about STO. The facts are, the skill system was not designed with a skill cap in mind and at the last minute a skill cap was put in place. So not the same thing.

To me these facts are painfully obvious every time I look at the STO skill tab.
