Well my laptop im on now wasn't bought for gaming but it does play on low/medium settings wit ha 8600M G Nvidia card. Any thoughts on this new laptop? Looks fine, has a nice i5 and ATI in it even though I prefer Nvidia.

That's a nice set of specs for sure! I don't have much experience with Acer branded laptops, but the specs and price is right for sure.

Yeah I figured, stuff hasn't changed much in the last 10 years other than the newer faster stuff, has the same basic set of specs.

Depends on what you mean by "stuff". Laptops still have keyboards and screens. They use a CPU, memory, hard drive, and all the same basic types of components. The similarity ends there. Architecture has leaped so far forward in 10 years that they are very different creatures.

Ram, memory on a hard drive, video ram...known as a GPU now. All the same specs just better technology like DDR3, SSD, etc.

GPU = Graphics Processing Unit. Not a type of memory or ram, but instead is a processor.

Memory on a hard drive? You mean cache? The typical 80Gb to 320Gb drive usually has between 16 and 32mb cache on the drive to speed up access. Larger/faster drives have 32mb to 64mb of cache on them.

OR, seeing as you mentioned SSDs, perhaps you meant memory as a hard drive? SSD's consist of NAND flash ram chips usually, MLC or SLC type.
