We all seem to have designs on what we think the game should have or not have. Some have mentioned player/Dev interraction panels. Some blindly rant about this or that. In short, we ramble blindly holding Cryptic rsponsible for everything.
Recently Cryptic has given rewards that some feel unfair in one way or another. Just earlier, I read a thread concerning the absence of purple grade space weapons that made perfect sense. In that thread, I added a setiment regarding my longing for lost powerhue as well.
We're being pigeon holed in the absence of the promised "No skill cap" play. Instead of things we WANT, instead of things that make sense, we're being forced to recieve TRIBBLE..... Enter the "easy button", due next month, as a prime example.
Face it, we're not getting anywhere with Cryptic. It's not because they have deaf ears I think. It's because Atari holds the leash. When was the last time, since the 2600 and/or 5200 consoles, that Atari made a game worthwhile? (I'm sure there are examples, primarily I'm asking out of sarcasm)
Here's the deal, Atari couldn't write STO by themselves, they hired Cryptic to do it. We ALL cite examples of WoW or EvE or any of a myriad of lesser games that seem more well thought out and put together. Games by companies who didn't have "big brother" trying to run something about which they had no clue.
Our assignment, should we choose to accept it, is to cut Cryptic out of the short term loop. We shall voice our thoughts to Atari (and/or CBS), in unison and in classic signed petition format. To do this let's form a player site, outside of the STO forums. Let's get together and REALLY hash out ideas.
I'm not suggesting this in order to bury Cryptic. I'm suggesting this to get them off of the "telling their boss how to run their business" hook while still allowing them to satisfy us.
The trend of late is people complaining about missing content as well as people wanting new content. As a place to start, I suggest finding a compromise there and then moving forward after.

In other words, you are proposing some sort of virtual (or perhaps even real?) charge at Atari's gates so they "release" Cryptic from the "leash" that you think keeps Cryptic from doing what you want Cryptic to do.
Although I know that Atari has had a questionable influence on STO numerous times by now, I really doubt your "idea" would do any good. Plus personally I am quite satisfied, at least for the most part, with the way the game is progressing.
