Death Penalty Solution: Emergency Warp and Escape Pods

Here you go:

Instead of the Magical Fairytale Land of Q-ness when I am "Defeated!" I magically get a new ship each time from Q ported to me in the same area with a somewhat beat up crew.

Emergency Warp:
All ships are equipped with an "emergency warp" automated capability that warps the ship to a "safe-spot" or respawn spot whatever at 5% of hull strength. Automatic. That way I keep my precious ship I named and spray painted with the gang all nice like and I don't have think of Magical Q-land.
- On respawn, here come the penalties. Frankly, do what needs to be done PER SHIP CLASS. Like a Cruiser might get serious hull damage, but who cares so much about weaps. Escort, etc. Try that. But you get the point: make it worthwhile and something that LIMITS THE SOUL CRUSHING/GRINDING that occurs in a mission that isn't going well. It encourages more teaming and tests your limits, not just how fast spacebar is going on your keyboard. <insert awesome death penalty ideas here from other threads>

At max level, RA 5 whatever you guys put it at if Star Trek Pretty Graphics Online survives long:

Escape pods:

- Ship goes boom. You lose it. Good DAY sir.
- Depending on damage type, you may lose some or all of your officers.
- You end up transwarped to Sol/Qo'Nos/where ever and get to curse that you just lost your baby.
- This is a boss/raid type encounter thing, or in serious PVP battles.

I like the general idea of emergency warp. The only big question is with the escape pod idea. Suppose you only have 1 ship. That character is effectively dead as you need a ship to: fight in space, get from "A" to "B" to beam down to the planet in question for a ground mission. Not sure how that would work... There would need to be several more threads posted, ideas on how to overcome those questions, and the obligatory name calling, moderator warnings, and general unpleasantness that goes along with discussing anything on forums.

I think the final solution is for all players to send me $14.99 per month. Then I will make a final, all encompassing decision and end all the arguments. Mwuhuhuhuhu! *evil laugh* :p

But seriously, perhaps a second live server for those who like a DP (call it a hardcore server) and then a "carebear" (that's me) server so that those who like the game without DP can play there. That way, everyone gets to be fully immersed in a world where they got what they wanted. Just an idea. Seems to work for Blizzard. WoW has PVP servers and RP servers so that players can play with or without having to worry about other players ganking, griefing, or spawn camping them. Just a thought. <please discuss>

I just have one question for the OP:

Do you play EvE? Because, your DP sounds 95% exactly like theirs does. Don't get me wrong, I enjoy EvE. I'm just wondering if the similarity is a coincidence or not.

No Star Trek flavored EVE thank you. If I wanted a EVE style DP, Id go play EVE.

Or you know, just leave the optional DP in.

Especially when something like losing your ship comes up. Not sure why all the EVE players want this game to be EVE, they should go play EVE if they want that.
