I cant get 4 volleys out of the cannon s on my Escort now, and I definately cant fire the Turrets in the back anymore. YET, the guys I have running Science ships with almost all beams can never seem to run out of energy. Did they just reverse that then? Make Cannons and Turrets super energy costly and beams not as costly now?

Try this load out Milenko, 2 dual heavy cannons, 1 quantum torp, 1 beam array front, in the back go 1 quantum torp and 3 beam arrays, use two eps consoles, use high yeild 3 and rapid fire 3. then tell me how they got nerfed. Oh, you cant sit still with your bow pointed at your target, just float like a butterfly and sting like a bee. you will be suprised how fast those mobs die. If you dont get em on the first pass, more then likely they will be dead for you can come around for the second one.
Drastically apparently. Way it looks to me, its better to run Science ships, as you get the superior turn rate over Cruisers as well as the power to run beams, and superior shields as well.
EPS console not helping? I haven't had a chance to log in for very long lately, been too busy.
They're helping me...
I had saved a bunch of them because I didn't have a reason to use them, now I'm selling them at ridiculous prices and people are gobbling them up.
Beams and cannons use the same power per shot..but cannons fire faster then beams, and when you use Rapid Fire...yeah..very noticable power drain vs a pure beam setup.
But for that loss in power, you also do a much higher amount of damage in a much shorter time span.
So..as already suggested, change your weapon loadout a bit to deal with the increased power usage and you'll find you do just fine.
hmmm well.....I still haven't logged in to try it out but......if its as bad as you say and if EPS doesnt help much then I may respec my ship talents to science and buy one of them.....with.......beams........ugh
edit: Damn me for using my respec token a few days ago to rework a minor flaw in my build.......20k merits.....

Yup, thats what im doing. Reworking my whole loadout and play style, or just go get a sci ship, use beams and still have fun? Plus, I still have my free respec? Yeah, Id expect to see more sci ships lol. Im not the only one that I know thats doing this either.

Funny, my escort dishes out more damage than ever before.
Yeah the escort is soon useless. Think this is maybe the 3 time they nerfed the escort.
I'm guessing the next nerf will be the escort can only use 1 weapon at the time. And if using rapid fire along with torpedos the weapon damage on the canons will go down to -50. But hey the escort can turn yeah ....
good fore brave escapes.
I think "glass cannon" is more appropriate now than it was before.
Anyone noticed a lot more hull damage than before? Im seeing damage like it does in the shows an movies lol, my shields are still up, and my hulls got holes in it. I get the lower bleed through shields, but it looks like theyre providing less protection than they were pre update
OK, I have to ask this question of everyone tossing around the idea that an EPS console (even stacking them) is useful on any ship.
Do you really switch between power settings, ie Attack, Defense, Speed and Balanced often enough that you need the higher level of power transfer granted by the EPS consoles? Because that's what they are supposed to be for according to the tooltip. They're not supposed to be boosting energy recharge speed, just energy transfer speed.
Decreased the increase from EPS consoles as well.. double whammy
Yep...the Admiral MK X version used to be a +3 EPS console, now its a +1. The V version is like a +.65 now and used to be like +2...or something similar. It was kinda shocking to see how different they are.

Actually that's exactly why i started Using EPS console, because i do change energy settings constantly. The faster recharge was just an awesome bonus.

Well theyre just about completely useless now. I dont get why anyone would be buying lots of them now.
Go buy some.... try running all EPS... then try running without any...
If you don't notice a difference you are doing something very wrong..
You should also be running full power to weapons while in combat, if you aren't.. you are seriously gimping yourself..
They wouldn't have nerf'd EPS consoles in the first place if people weren't already using them to maximize DPS so much... even at half their original power they are still better than just about anything else you could stick in your escort's engineering slots...
Read THIS THREAD HERE... to get a better understanding of how energy weapons and energy allocation apply to DPS... some of the data is pre-season one... but it still very much applies to setting up a capable ship..
how did you people manage to survive this long using escorts. did you actually believe you could use rapid fire and it shouldn't affect your energy levels?
em power to weapons.... or if you are an engineer use eps power transfer. and for the next 30 or so seconds fire to your hearts content. if after those 30 seconds whatever you are shooting is not a floating pile of scrap, U R DOING IT WRONG.
promptly reroll a easier ship class like science, or cruiser. heaven forbid you have to manage your energy consumption...
I've just hit my Admiral escort, and been stung by the energy drain of cannons... never had a problem with it in earlier ships (though I did hit Admiral at the same time as Season One so eh).
What's the best way to get EPS consoles? Suck it up and buy the best I can from the exchange, or can you get them from an exploration vendor etc...?

IF it had been THIS way the whole time, youd have a point, but as the benefit to using cannons till this point seemed to be a lesser energy consumption than beams, I though that WAS the point.

5th tier exploration marks are your best and cheapest bet.
And like what others have said, you just have to change your load out.

The main benefit was that it did more damage. They didn't consume less energy either before, the forced staggering just gave it that illusion as far as I know. The increase in energy consumption just means that you can't run Dual Heavy Cannons everywhere and have high burst damage along with the same DPS as the non-Dual Heavy users.

They cut EPS benefits in half

Oh, good to know, I'll make my Commander-level ones more expensive.

Depends on your full loadout I guess.

As do others. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pFpxbjQxPpc You just need at least 2 EPS consoles.

I kill most things too quickly to even notice the power issue...
Edit: and yes EPS consoles are a must for just about every ship, you want the weapons energy as high as possible between shots...
I wouldn't call it useless, but I would say its overly fragile.
(This with a covar mk VI shield with [cap] bonuses)
(For the interested, weapons loadout consists of dual phaser beam bank tet DHC and Quantums fore, tet turret and more quantums aft)
So do escorts get slightly less tissue like at higher tiers?
