What's the big deal about the captain's table again?

So lifetime subscribers have a spot they can go and sit their toons in and... chat.

What are we non career officers missing? Last time I checked, we can sit around and chat anywhere in game already.

like every other 'social area' in the game.. it's useless.. absolutely nothing to do there except stand around and look out the window (ok a couple vendors that are no better than the vendors anywhere else)

We get that Cryptic wants to give us lifers a couple perks, and sure, they're nice to have.. But can we stop them now, and have enough? Instead it'd be nice to see some focus put on making social areas fun to play in (or rather, possible to play in, since there's a grand total of nothing you can do in them right now)

in short: there is no point to it and i fail to understand why people are getting upset..

it is something that someone doesn't have, therefore they want it, but do not want to do anything to get it like pay money.

edit: or in some cases, cannot get because they are on a tight budget and can't buy the 300 buck lifetime sub

The have-nots are never satisfied, that's why they're called have-nots!

You can spin it however you want...but you aren't given your "lifer perks" to reward you...you're getting them to encourage non-lifers to BECOME lifers. Giving you and the other "lifers" MORE perks is self-defeating...you aren't going to go buy ANOTHER lifetime subscription. New players aren't getting lifetime subscriptions...so now there is an incentive for them to do so. The fact that current lifers get them as well is entirely incidental.

And what's wrong with this? Last time I checked, if you wanted to sell something, you tried to make it enticing.

The best part about the Captain's Table is the way the forum crybabies whine about it.

Yep. I'll be avoiding the forums for the next couple of days... again. At least until the crying winds down or Phoxe gets upset and starts closing threads and banning people again. While the biter and unhappy forum trolls spend the weekend raging on the forums I'm going to be playing the game and having fun.

    Cheers! :D

wow, this perk situation really has you cheesed off doesn't it

lemme clear one thing up; Anyone who bought or buys a lifetime sub for perks or "rewards" is makeing the purchase for the wrong reason. The lifer sub is a financial investment, one that pays off after 15-16 months against the base monthly sub. Most of the lifers bought the lifer sub for this reason: they believe thay will be playing this game for that amount of time or longer, thus saving money in the long run. Everything else is just gravy.

I don't care that I can't go there but I do think they made a bad choice on placing the entrance.

#1. Having a Giant blue glowy thing in Sol Sector, constantly there, breaks immersion and looks completely out of place.

#2. They placed it right where it is essentially directly in your path once you beam off the station to your ship. OF COURSE people who can't go there are going to start to get annoyed when they're forced to look at it on an almost constant basis.

It's like there was a conscious decision made to flaunt it or rub the non-lifer's faces in it, lol.

Personally, for mainly the first reason, I'd rather that as a non-lifer I not be able to see the entrance to the Captain's Table AT ALL.

You do have a valid point. I would say if the entrance has to be visible to all players, it COULD be moved to a less noticeable location. That may help to alleviate some of the anger that some players seem to be experiencing over this. I happen to like having access to the Captain's Table, but I don't want other players to feel like the LTers are an "elite" class, we are all "in" Starfleet/KDF.

    Not a thing really.

It's just another 'room' in the game. We've got the exchange, tailor, mail and bank, same as Sol/DS9. There's a Mk ii junk vendor there we can offload trash loot on, as well as a 'bartender' that's basically the same thing our replicator is aboard ship, except this one is an NPC instead.

Other than that, random NPC's wandering around, talking to each other (just like Sol/DS9) and some windows to look out of (just like Sol).

About the only thing we have there that you can't get everywhere else is lack of spam from fleets and credit farmers.

It was a simple 'thanks!' from Cryptic for making a leap of faith pre-launch. Most of us didn't have the advantage of being able to ride out our initial 30 days before we made the decision like everyone else. If the game tanked, we just blew $239. Even the whiners with 12 month subs screaming that they're entitled to freebies were able to at least get a feel for things post-launch before they bought in.

We didn't raise hell and ask for this. It was done because Cryptic wanted to do it. While several of us agree that the queu jumping might be cause for some concern for some folks (though in reality, even that isn't a big deal, since login queus are pretty much a thing of the past) we certainly appreciate the thought and work that went into the LT perks.

All of the QQing on the boards over this is relatively pointless. There is no exclusive game content that would give a LT subscriber an advantage in the game over someone with a different subscription.

I don't think any of these perks give a LT player an advantage over a monthly player in PvP, etc. And we all purchase different levels of service. I'm sure many monthly subscribers have purchased more cable channels from the same providers as their neighbors. It doesn't make it unfair, it's just a choice to purchase a different service package.

And, ultimately, that's what the Lifetime Sub is, a different service package.

I know not everyone can afford the cost of a LT sub. I am not attempting to imply that economic differences make one group better or worse than another. However Cryptic, as a business, chose to provide some very minor recognition to a group of customers who have shown a high level of commitment to their product. Many of us purchased our LT subs pre-launch. None of us demanded anything special (including the nice, but not crucial, subscriber perks like the playable Borg) for our LT subs, but it's a nice gesture and a shame that it's being perceived as some type of slight aimed at monthly subscribers.

    Have a nice day everyone.

Your logic is flawed. Were they to encourage this as you suggest, their revenue stream would dry up and they'd generate no income.

Lifetime subscriptions are mainly a vehicle with which game companies get cash infusions to help fund the machine until things stabilize. The real money for them is going to come from recurring monthly subscriptions, with some extra thrown in via cash purchases through the in-game store.

Long term sustainability will never be achieved via one-time subscription purchases, regardless of cost.If you're in this for the long haul, you want recurring subs, because that's where the real money is.

social areas provode spots to RP in, but most RPers will go where the people, and their friends are. hence why I say a social area as a lifer perk is a bit silly

I agree, this is why i got my lifetime sub and at the time all i thought I was getting extra was 2 char slots and my joined trill only coz i got in early. I'm sure most lifers didn't expect a "captains table" and what ever else is planned, like just about every other lifer has said the CT is not much and i'm not planning on going back anytime soon, Earthdock is much more fun :D

I said in another thread I certainly hope when they do vet rewards its not some social area but a tangible item that will help me in the game. I mean really who cares about sitting in the lifer lounge. Even when I go lifetime (and i will eventually) I will not be in there. After the newness wears off it'll just be some deserted area because I do not play the game to sit with a few other people in a social area and chat.

I also see people on one hand feeling entitled to all these perks because they paid $240 while I paid $120 at the SAME TIME as they did and they think I should get nothing. While I am happy for lifers they get things I do not understand the lifer attitude that they are the ONLY ones entitled to anything.
