This isnt an im leaving thread, as I havnt logged in for over 2 weeks I think it would be a bit late for that. I enjoyed closed and open beta and thought this game had great potential but however I simply do not enjoy playing this anymore. Everyday I check the forums to see if there is a glimmer of hope, there has been none.
Perhaps my own (and others) hopes for this game are different than cryptics however isnt it the job of developers to create a game for the players? Im gonna list of a few of my wishes and problems I have for this game if a developer wishes to answer these complaints and questions please do so because I would honestly love to continue playing the game at some point but need a reason to do so.
(1) Proper raids, with large groups of people. I play other MMOs and when I was playing STO I really missed the large scale group dynamics of raiding. People may call the group content raids but IMHO they are nothing of the sort. To me, a raid is group content that requires 10+ people to complete.
(2) limited Open PVP. Im not asking for world pvp as I appreciate some people do not like PVP. However I find it rather silly to see an ememy in the neutral zone and not be able to intercept them. What I would love is the enitre neutral zone to be a pvp area, if you see an enemy you can intercept them at the game would move you both to a deep space encounter style of instance with the ability to warp out greyed out for 2 mins. Then if people do not like to PVP then they can just avoid the neutral zone.
(3) Fleet tags. This is the only game ive played where you cannot instantly see which fleets people belong too. This game needs an option to display your fleet under your name. It would also be great if in sector space if you could diffferentiate all the other players, so for example all the pople in sector space in the same fleet as you have the name in a different colour.
(4) Private fleet actions. The game should have the ability to create a private fleet action on an invite only basis so fleets can actually do this content together easily without other players popping in to the instance.
(5) More meanigfull sandbox elements. I know this is a story driven MMO but more sandbox elements would help fill in the gaps between content patches. Exploration system was supposed to accomplish this however I think that the system is pretty weak and boring. A fantastic way to enable the community to generate there own stories is to have open PVP (see point 2).
(6) Territory control. This again goes back to point 2 however during open beta I think it was Jackelope said that he would love to see some kind of territory control. Since then however nothing has been mentioned. Please could we have a response about his, has the idea been dropped? Is the engine even capable of it?
(7) Fleet owned starbases. For the love of god please stop looking into starship interiors and focus on fleet starbases. This would alow fleet to work together to achive something. Constant upgrades and cosmetics would be cool to work towards. maybe even work it into point 6.
Again this is a list of things that would draw me back into the game and I understand its a personal thing but I would really appreciate a dev coming back on this one. I have been a supporter if this game for along time and I feal frustrated and let down. Should I give up and admit the direction cryptic wants to go in is different than mine or should I stick with it int he knowledge that these things are being worked on.
well, the ai did get a buff some, or maybe the player controlled stuff got nerfed some, maybe a little of both. the end result is the game is more like it was in OB when it first started, some of the stuff is actually challenging again. Dont go barreling in from full impulse anymore to kill those 6 mobs, they will pretty much hand you your nacelle:) You might actually decide you want to start playing with teams again instead of soloing. Its not all we need to make fleets worthwhile, but its a step in the right direction.
I've started to adopt the idea... Giving Money to Cryptic... is like giving money to a charity... in the end of the day... you still feel empty handed... but at least with charity... its being put to GOOD USE.
I hate to say it, OP, but it looks like the game you want is EVE. I don't know how much like EVE Cryptic is going to try to make STO into... but I really wouldn't hold my breath.
That being said, I would definitely agree with your #4; that would solve many of the problems with, for example, Crystalline Entity, as well as whatever other cosmozoan and other Big Bad Boss fleet actions there will be.

Honestly the best thing you can do is stop subscribing for a few months then come back and take a look at whats changed. Any significant changes will take several months to implement at the least, so really there is no point paying for something you arent enjoying - that just leads to resentment and ill feelings ultimately.
There are plenty of other games to try, and perhaps one of those will give you some satisfaction and enjoyment whilst you wait to see whether Star Trek Online becomes the game you want to play.

Judging from your thread title, it seems you already made up your mind, though.
Do you like giving money to charity?.

Anyways... my 2 cents worth.
