Season One: My Pros and Cons

I'm hoping this turns into a thread where we can list our simple pros and cons about the update:

Pros:
  1. More content. I love the fact that there is more content to play as I level my toon up. Especially since I have grown fond of being a Klinc, and found a great Fleet on Klinc side. (8 of us did the new Klinc FA last night.)
  2. Skills Trainer. This is self explanatory
  3. Fleet Actions. I love this raid content and hope more people get involved. I hope more FA are created as time goes on, and I am sure it will. Even on in the Gamma where all factions can team to fight the borg.
  4. New character options.
  5. Some minor QoL options.

Cons:
  1. FA Drops/Reward. OMG! We did all this work last night for a carppy drop! I am a support toon and only finished in the top ten becuase there were only 11 or 12 people doing the FA. If you listed heals as you do in PvP, no doubt I would have ranked one since 8 of 10 clicks were healing my team and a few others around me. (We even thought about shelving it till the next time we are really bored and need something to do.) I love being a support toon and got a medium hypo for all that work. Granted I got some nice drops, but most drops were already well below the equipment I have. A choice of a some roll reward would be nice - ship/ground equipment/weapon/kit/rare tribble - at least something we can sell, use or put on the market. Something that makes the effort worth the time and trouble. Heck, even 5 Cryptic points.
  2. Klingon Zones. Turning the systems into Open missions and PvE content like on the SF side would be really nice. We have the PvP menu option and do not need the systems to go to.
  3. Three Toon Slots. Honestly, this is a huge issue for me personally, and is really turning me off this game. I pay $15 a month and would like to have the option of creating more toons without having to pay more. I have three toons I like. I would like more, but expecting me to pay more, NO! There is a hugh difference in having 8 - 10 slots to delete toons you do not favour or like, then having to grudging think about deleting one of three you really like. Realistically, since I do not see me paying extra for slots, once I get bored of playing the same three toons, I will be bored of the game. I understand you made a foolish business decision to offer lifetime accounts, but I am not going to help float them any more then $15/month. You eat that lose as far as I'm concerned.

Overall IMO:

It is a nice first step, and great first expansion on a great game. I am hoping to see more TF created where a team of five race to a zone, beam down to a standard ground map, kill everything/get the clue, race to the next system, fight ships/explore the region for clues, and fight a boss mid way, and at the end type of thing. Something that kills a few hour besides a single map of endless drones. (Yes, I like the Infected TF, but also like more involved TF's with multiple maps to kill hours - even racing my team to the next zone  ) I really hoped that more toon slots would have been made available in Season One, but I got a shock and came to the conclusion you are going to nickle and dime me to help float Lifetime subs. That's a huge turnoff for me.

Oh, just get two extra slots. You won't regret it. What you may regret is kicking your feet around in the dust trying to argue your way into getting more slots. It is not happening any time soon. When it does, If it does, It will be included in a pay-for boxed expansion are a major MAJOR content update, the likes of which probably won't come for more than a year.

I do regret being nickeled and dimed. Don't you?

Also, with CoH coming out with high end graphics, it FREE 17th major issue content upgrade, and a sweet sounding expansion, I can live with the regret of not paying for silly extras here. After all, I can have a total of 64 toons on CoH before I have to pay for extra slots - or is it 72. You start with 8/server and there are 8 or 9 servers. Yeah, I'll live with the regret.

Microtransactions are they way things are going. Personally, I think we should get more than three slots to start out with, but we got three. I wanted more, so I bought some more. I also paid the extra 25 cents to get bacon on my burger last night. I guess you have to decide if you want something bad enough to get it. If you do then get it. If you don't then don't.

Dude, I could come back - I guess that's why you use Windows (~$120 a copy with an iron clad license which they can come and take your PC for abusing any software running under their OS (legally or not obtained) among other things), and I use Linux running Windows VM (OpenSource, and the cost of my Internet connection and DVD-R). But that is not why I started this thread. I had hoped people would just list pros and cons of Season One. It's not like it's the first line of the OP. Foolish me.

Uh, if you're running Windows in a VM you still need to purchase it - if you haven't, you're running a pirated copy, the licensing is the same. Not sure what point you were trying to make here.

Microtransactions on top of a $15 monthly fee is simply greed. I would support the microT's more if the game had a much lower monthly fee or free (though free is unlikely). Having the same monthly fee as just about every other MMO and adding Micro's on top of that is pure lust for money. Especially when the product likely won't even be in a full release state until Season 2 or 3. The way the game is now is more like a paid beta.

Fair enough - without me going into detail that could be a valid point. However, point is clear in that post: But that is not why I started this thread. I had hoped people would just list pros and cons of Season One.

Either way, I'm gonna let this continue to be derailed and remove it from my sub list.

As far as drops for the Fleet Actions go, I'd like to see something like what Warhammer Online did with the public raids: give a choice for the reward. Just bring up a selection dialog like the ones for quest rewards.
