I completely agree. Looking at that list I don't know if I'll get the replacement for my ship in 1 week or 2 months!! How about some actual clarification devs!! Stop the marketing speak and be clear, it would go a long way to alievating the cofusion and dissatisfaction about this whole mess, please?
I mean look at the guy above me and my own join dates here, we've had your back for 2 years!!
Going to step out on a limb here and take a guess...
Every ship has 3 configurations already, right?
For example;
T5 Assault Cruisers are -
Majestic
Noble
Sovereign
... that's 3.
Now you have
Majestic
Noble
Sovereign
Imperial
That's the 4 in the "Cruiser Variant 4"
That part we get. Its the part where they aren't clear on which ship is which. Its like Cryptic purposely writes this TRIBBLE so they can slip through the loopholes when things don't work out right.
Now count from the first one listed. The 4th Cruiser is the Assault Cruiser.
Now this leads be to believe the following: (Keep in mind this is speculation)
* Cruiser 4 variant 4 - March 25 (Assault Cruiser)
* Escort 4 variant 4 - April 1 (Fleet Escort)
* Science 5 variant 4 - April 15 (Deep Space Science Vessel)
* Cruiser 5 variant 4 - April 29 (Star Cruiser)
* Escort 5 variant 4 - May 13 (Advanced Escort)
* Science 4 variant 4 - May 27 (Reconnaissance Science Vessel)
100% Speculation. I'm stepping out on a limb here.
That's the 4 in the "Cruiser Variant 4". I don't think the 4 or 5 has anything to do with the ship Tier. That much is rather confusing.
I disagree because it says "Cruiser 4 Variant 4" and then "Cruiser 5 Variant 4". It would make more sense that Cruiser 4 is the AC and Cruiser 5 is the SC.
i think you are correct, thats what i was going to say too. i just hope the science one is better than that imperial one :rolleyes:
He is right about the last number.
But we got Cruiser 4 Variant 4.
Star Cruiser is a T5 ship.
But it counts from T2 where the ship classes starts So "Cruiser 1 Variant 4" would be a new Cruiser(following the lines of the refit Constitution).
Now count from the first one listed. The 4th Cruiser is the Assault Cruiser.

100% Speculation. I'm stepping out on a limb here.
Something like that maybe.
Kinda ironic that Recon Science was the first(and well only) one that got a preview is the last on the list.

If that is the case, I'm gonna move on to a whole new level of ****ed since it means I'll be waiting 2 months for my damned variation, ridiculous.
On the other hand, according to the page you are working from, the advanced escort is listed before the fleet.
If that is the case, I'm gonna move on to a whole new level of ****ed since it means I'll be waiting 2 months for my damned variation, ridiculous.
Yeah, it's impossible to play the game without a minor variation in the cosmetic appearance of identically-functioning ships. Get those art guys to stop working on frivolity like the art assets for new content, and make them rush out these paintjobs!

Dude, I have nothing against you personally, but stop making excuses for them. I've seen you in everyone of these "Variant" threads behaving like an apologist for Cryptic's cryptic-ness and its downright annoying. So you don't miss them and it doesn't hurt your play or enjoyment. Great. It does hurt my own. Don't attempt to judge whats important in a game for all players.
I used to do weapon mods for Counter Strike Source and I can tell you for a fact that changing up the look or sound of an in-game piece can have a profound mental impact on how you play with that piece in-game, even if it does nothing to alter the actual workings of the piece itself.

As an Assault Cruiser captain, I do have to say I would have thought that the Deep Space Science and Star Cruiser would have been the first slated for variants followed by the non-Prometheus type escort (can't remember which one is which atm) Those are probably the worst of the current bunch, but after seeing the Imperial I can only imagine that Cryptic actually thinks the ugliest ships are the best ones in which case the Assault Cruiser coming first would make sense in their eyes as we probably had the most attractive ship already so they needed to ugly us up.

Well syberghost, this is part of the reason for my stance on the no ships or parts in the c-store. To quite a bit of the Trek community the starships would never and could never just be considered 'fluff' or a friggen 'costume' as Cryptic has labelled it. To those who are more just gamers and not quite as much Trek fans this would certainly lessen to the point of not caring or in your case abrasive sarcasm.
A starship that is designed to house over a thousand people is not even in the same ballpark as whatever silly uniform the people inside it are wearing. I can't argue that in this game they haven't sort of dumbed it down to that point or at least tried to, and frankly that's probably the saddest part of it all.

While I personally have no problems with purchasing new looks for ships from the c-store, I think that its bad form to only release one at a time like this. If they were going to have issues releasing stuff like this, they should have just held off until they were all ready to go. That said, the biggest complaint I have is that Cryptic should have announced this fracking info about the release schedule with the upcoming patch info and not waited until launch day to tell us about it.
Yesterday the Imperial Class Assault Cruiser was release and it's listed as "Cruiser 4" (Four).
Isn't the Assault Cruiser a Tier 5 (Five) Ship?
Yes, it is. But the thing is, internally they may be referring to them by an internal numbering scheme. The T1 light cruiser may be in its own category, like a "type 0" or something, so the Assault Cruisers may by the 4th Cruiser type, and the Star Cruisers the 5th.
Ouch, 2 months to get the new variant pieces for my ship.
No biggie, I saw the screenshot, and it doesn't seem to add/change much for the Recon. Just some more slight variations to choose from.
I saw those screen shots but I could have sworn I already saw that exact ship in game last night. It was a Luna class with the pointy ended nacelles and a science pod on top.

Like I said, the screenshot looks like an extremely minor variation. The Sol and Polaris variant ships have pointy nacelles and an arrow-head saucer, and all of them have a mission pod on top (all different shapes). So the new one just changes some of the details, apparently.
This way Cryptic has "content" to release before the supposed "big content".
Think about it, I did. At first, I figured it was some sort of monetary thing. But no, cause you would buy it in April/May just as easy as now, even more so due to subs leaving etc.
However, factor in their "development of content" and the picture becomes a bit clearer:
1: sub-par game (general consensus)
2: needs more content (general consensus)
So what do they do? They dangle pretty ships on a string to lure in Trekkies/ers, remeber the line "A spin on your old favorites." Whose "old favorites"?
Another case of Cryptic being transparent, as I said before I can see right through this behavior.
As for the number "4" I would agree with many of the "first page posters" in that the number represents where it sits on the customization screen. (IE 4th ship type listed)
I for one care less about why I have to wait and more about that I have to wait at all. Don't get me wrong, I have no problem waiting for stuff, but I would have liked to have been informed that I would be waiting back when they put out the press release. Its all about what wasn't said here.

Looking at the huge fall in the number of instances in use, my guess is the Dev team is already being cut in size. It's a vicious cycle. 100K subs (if we are even still at that level) is far FAR less than they planned for. My guess is their business model required at least 250K or more. So expect content and stuff to gravitate more and more to the C-Store from now on, especially given all the lifetime subscribers, and this being the only way to get more money from us.
Dude, I have nothing against you personally, but stop making excuses for them. I've seen you in everyone of these "Variant" threads behaving like an apologist for Cryptic's cryptic-ness and its downright annoying.
I'm sorry to hear that*. You seem to get annoyed very easily when things don't go your way.
* by which I don't mean I'm sorry it's the case; just sorry I had to hear it.
I noticed you didn't have any response to the part where you've made it your roll to decide what others find important about their gaming experience.
That's because you made it your role to decide whether my opinions were genuinely held or just knee-jerk apology for Cryptic. I didn't see any point in responding to that, since it's not your role.
But if you insist; you posted your opinion publicly. That made it the business of every single member of these forums. If you didn't want public comment, you should have PMed dstahl. Although he's horribly busy, he does read those eventually, and respond to many.

I disagree because it says "Cruiser 4 Variant 4" and then "Cruiser 5 Variant 4". It would make more sense that Cruiser 4 is the AC and Cruiser 5 is the SC.

So you're saying Cryptic is very cryptic?
Harrr!! Indeed.
If that is the case, I'm gonna move on to a whole new level of ****ed since it means I'll be waiting 2 months for my damned variation, ridiculous.

* Cruiser 5 variant 4 - April 29
* Escort 5 variant 4 - May 13
* Science 4 variant 4 - May 27
Then it makes sense that the other 'canon' ships will be considered "4" and the Cryptic specials will be considered "5".
So:
* Cruiser 4 variant 4 - March 25 (Assault Cruiser)
* Escort 4 variant 4 - April 1 (Advanced Escort)
* Science 5 variant 4 - April 15 (Deep Space Science Vessel)
* Cruiser 5 variant 4 - April 29 (Star Cruiser)
* Escort 5 variant 4 - May 13 (Fleet Escort)
* Science 4 variant 4 - May 27 (Reconnaissance Science Vessel)
Up further review, it seems that ArmageddonX had it almost correct, he just switched up the Advanced and Fleet escorts.
This is the most logical progression. Come April 1st, we'll know for sure if this is how it is going to go.
