Suggestion: Holodecks

I feel it would be a fun experiance to have halodecks. I don't know if it' should be "Captains Table" only. However, I feel themed based holodecks like pvp in a 1940's theme would be a lot of fun.

I could see you appraching the holodeck as you would a turboloft. and selecting which themed based combat/experiance you would like to engage in. I say experiance, because i could see a simple quest based system, such as the many detective episodes.

Just another thought, player spec's could be ignored..

People could all be fighting in a F11 or byplane for air combat
or using a revolver with no special abilities as a classic cowboy FPS.

I agree, there is other priorities.. However, your also right though. I didn't even think about using your "Visit the bridge" then walking down the hall to the holodeck to queue up.

holodeck, really? are you a little soft in the head or do you not understand how this game is already a simulation?

Ya, I guess I'm old and brain a little squishy.. However, it breaks up the same'o same'o.
People really can't complain if abilities are tossed out the window and have to use the tools of the era to accomplish a goal.

As far as holodeck, it's a classic ST thing, like phaser's set to stun.

Heck, could be a do nothing room but a lounge and with earl grey tea and a cob pipe.

BAH! I have no time to play. Too busy selling dead Feds to Orions for meat.

Maybe, someday, as a single mission or something. But this is a Sci Fi game, specifically a Star Trek game, that's still got a bit of growing and development to do as a Star Trek game. Not a 1940's Detective game.

Keep the focus on the main idea. Save the off shoot stuff for later.

The holodeck was introduced to the series to provide more content (on the cheap), than a bunch of ships running around getting thier pew pew on or Kirk kissing the latest alien.

Holodeck is as much of star trek as anything and to exclude just as much of a shame.

And to think that the Captains Table was a required addon.. wait it wasn't, it was additional content.

[SARCASM] So, you want a complex fully fleshed game within a complex game that is still being fleshed out? Why not just used Second Life as the holodeck. You and your mates say you are going to the holodeck, log out of STO and meet up in Second Life and have an "adventure"? [/SARCASM]

Which was apparently, by some accounts here in the forums, done "off the clock" to show appreciation. If this is true it was a persona labor, not a Cryptic labor.

I want a holodeck to run ground and space combat simulations. (Either repeat completed missions or set up predetermined or random enemies to work on combat tactics.)

A holodeck is REALLY needed in this game.

    One simulation for space
    One Simulation for ground

Additionally, this zone should allow you to respec completely free so you can try out various equipment, bridge officer skill load outs and tactics.

Personnally, I think this would be the best thing to use for Tribble as well since this can be used there to test new equipment and carried over to live for added content. While your in the holodeck you can get vendors that will give EVERY item free. every ship and so on.

Once you done, leaving the holodeck will reset the character back to what they were before they entered.

Okay, rerunning missions, that's not a bad idea at all. Rewards should be substantially reduced to reduce the chance of abuse. Maybe nothing but commons, and half SP. (I don't know offhand how it could be abused, but I'm not into looking for exploits and loopholes.)

Player-generated content is a whole different kettle of eels. I wouldn't expect to see that happen for quite a while.

There are SERIOUS issues with IP integrity that cannot even be surmounted by framing player generated content as "holonovels". These issues would probably have to be negotiated with CBS. This probably makes player generated content incredibly distant in the future if not nigh near imposable. I'm not saying Cryptic is not considering it, all I am saying is it is not going to be an expedient process.

Don't expect much out of holodecks in the near future. If they are put in what they do will be very superficial in comparison to expectations.
