I just don't understand what the hell half of them do.
If a skill says "Increases Engine Performance" and lists "Emergency Power To Engines" as the example skill, does that mean that the skill is pointless if you don't want Emergency Power to Engines, or does the skill *also* increase some ship stat?
In conclusion, I read that there is some specific dev guy there who's philosophy of game design is to have skill selection be a kind of a mini-game that's made of half-luck and half-guesswork because those are more fun than using actual ****ing numbers like "Increases Ship Engine By 5% per skill level". If that's the case, fire him and withhold his last paycheck.
i have increased power levels, but which skills did this and to what extent i dunno lol.
i'd like to respec to increase weapon power levels, but i have no idea what skill would do this? i have skills in weapon related skills, but i top out at 108, where as my bro tops out at 125.
also my stated power levels still change between sector space and zoned in. same with ship hp and other stats. kind of annoying when i'm trying to compare with fleet mates while traveling between missions or help out fleet mates when they're not in a mission.
I empathize with you and support improvements to the descriptions on the skill tree.
In the interim, I really found this tool helpful. It at least shows you what parts of the skill tree enhance the abilities you and your BOs have based on the ship/BO powers.

Sounds like Mr. Emmert. He was against letting players see the numbers in CoH, too.

Well it's the worst skill tree I have ever seen in a game, and I'm playing since "Pong" (well this game had no skill tree).

I remember it well. And I remember how much happier the playerbase was and how much better the game was and continues to be since they did add the numbers in.
it does need to be a lot clearer. they do throw random numbers at you with no real explanation of what they mean or how they relate to your ship or character
how does an eps console with a turn rate of 1.5 compare to a hull repair console giving me + 30 repair. i have no idea so you just have to guess what you think would be better.
does sensors increase your ships actual sensors, increasing range or just the abilities
does increasing shield abilities actually increase your sheild strength.
most of the time you can work this stuff out but usually that kind of trial and error leaves you with points spent in the wrong place.
i do know that if you press P and click on an ability it does show you what skills relate to that ability which is helpful

It's not much, but it is some help.
