What's the point of the bridge.

You cannot command your ship, you cannot even sit in your own captain's chair, I think maybe you can invite other people to your bridge for a chat. You cant even look out of the front window/viewer to see whats going on space around you.

What a complete waste of space and a missed opportunity IMO. Why anyone would want to buy a new bridge is beyond me.

(Of course I could be missing something major - the manual is doesnt go into a lot of detail - maybe someone out there can enlighten me)?

While the game was in development there was a huge push from the community to be able to walk around the bridge of your ship. It was not something that Cryptic had planned to be ready at release but maybe something that they would add later in the game. Anyway people pushed and so Cryptic answered and made it possible for people to walk around their bridge at launch.... Now people are upset that there isn't anything more to it. Cryptic has said that they are going to be adding more content for ship interiors later but for now it's a pure ascetics thing.

The point of a bridge is that it helps you travel over things like water

The bridge has many uses, and yes you can sit on the captains chair for what it's worth. Just jump on top, face the viewscreen and type /emote sit_captain and viola, you're sitting down on your seat. Now for those that enjoy RP, there are possibilities in that too, and I'm sure soon enough the bridge will expand and you as a player will get to customize and furnish things and show off trophies or something. This game is still under constant developement.

Probably the most TRIBBLE way in a game to sit in a chair I've ever seen.

Basically it is a pointless map, and remember that is it just a map it has no relation to your actual ship.

I have a feeling that is what the rest of ship will become, basically a ground map.

    Thats golden!

sometimes in the future you might get a fridge a few shelves maybe a cabinet somewhere, while its uncertain what type of furniture you get its almost certain they all will be crawling over with tribbles.

Never had any ambition to do combat or command my vessels from the bridge. I figured it was only cosmetic.

Currently the Bridge has very limited functionality. However, Cryptic does have plans to develope it. The best thing for it right now is to invite friends over for RP or just chating. You can also show off your cool bridge if you get one (or buy one.) Some day I hear the plan is to have internal missions that happen on your ship.

As for teh chair thing, that is to be fixed in the nearer future. Check the Engineering Reports for progress. For now, the hop up, turn, and sit emote works (most of the time.)

    Thanks,
    Duncan

it's for when trade in sector space bugs out so you can trade without traveling back to starbase.

otherwise it's complete fluff that took dev time away from other important stuff like maps for missions and quest text spellchecking.

although i would like to see some functionality added, i am not interested in playing from the bridge, or walking around other areas of my ship. right now it's dead space. and i can RP without it.

It's a social area that the STO community really wanted included in the game. I know some people were advocating the ability to play from the bridge, but without 3rd person ship view you would be so gimped you'd only try it once. BTW, you most definately CAN sit in the captain's chair.

It's a matter of standing in the right spot when you execute the emote. Clickable chairs would be better (hint hint Devs!)

Well I did manage to sit in my chair (kind of - my knees are too big so I sit crossed legged hovering at the level of the arm rests on the chair - hey but was quality stuff.

I was hoping I was missing a major function of the bridge but I guess not.

Yeah I heard the same thing about the plans to have missions inside your ship. The day that come will bring much more use to the interiors to the bridge. But It's cool in its own way having your "Home"/Bridge.

I'm sure if they wanted to that they could have it were you just clicked on the Captain's chair and automatically set down . The engine that SWG uses is lot poorer then the STO engine and that game has the capability. I'm sure that it's probably just a case of wanting to or not.

Well, given the limited nature of their use and the desire for so many other things in game, I do understand the OP wondering out loud why new bridges were a large part of the c-store update.

Probably just a matter of them being mostly done at launch and just pushing them out now.

    Whats the point?

To invite Kligons over and Pew Pew them again and again, till you get bored.

I'd be quite happy if there were no bridge.

I walked onto the bridge of my first ship and haven't been on any other bridge of any other ship since.

I'm sure there were loud people saying they had to have a bridge. But I wonder how many people actually feel like a bridge is all that critical to their gameplay.

It's funny, but it seems like every couple of weeks this exact post pops up verbatim.

It's there because people wanted it there. Don't like it? Tough. The world doesn't revolve around you. Cry us a river, build a bridge, and get over it.

And yes, the pun was intentional. Get over that to.

You can sit in chairs in May.
It's in the Engineering Reports (as being in development).

I do wish we will one day be able to command from the bridge.
If not the combat, at least Warp Travel, Diplomacy and Exploration.
    That is ... everything else.
