So Cryptic - lets not divide everyone, shall we? Introduce Veteran status

SystemSystem Member, NoReporting Posts: 178,019 Arc User
So the lifetime rewards are in, and suddenly loads of people are running around with blue forum names. Some are acting like jerks - you should be ashamed of yourselves.

I can see where Cryptic is going with this, and what they're trying to do, and I want to go on record as saying I'm touched by the out-of-hours effort the team put in to give lifetime subscribers a few perks, whilst not impacting development time of main features.

However - this kind of measure can be very divisive if not handled well. Since we've now established the precedent, the potential damage factor is there, so here is what I propose as damage mitigation.

Introduce Veteran Rewards. They should go immediately to anyone with a yearly sub, and those with a monthly subscription should become eligible after 12 months cumulative. Give them a green forum colour and Veteran Officer, and some equivalent suitably fluffy perk(s) that have no real game impact, just as the lifetime perks don't.

Those people are supporting Cryptic too. It is inappropriate to single us lifetime subscribers out (yes we took a big risk, but so did the yearly subs to a lesser degree). Again, I'm touched, and even surprised - I wasn't expecting anything. Please ensure I don't come to regret it just because I'm automatically lumped in with those who abuse some exclusivity.

i agree with you on the yearly subs i would have thought there would have been at least a title or something but for the month to month subscribers i dont see why they are acting out.

Give the YEAR subscribers something nice :)

Veteran rewards are a great idea. As a lifer I'd just hope that as my account passes the milestone for each reward (1 month, 3 months, etc.) that we'd also get them.

As a Yearly, I think Veteran would be neat.

How do you get a blue forum title anyway? Was this just for pre-order lifers? What about those who bought a LTS after launch?

I would like this idea too, vet reward or 3, 6, 9 & 12 special reward for being a monthly sub.

You can get veteran status when you pay $300 for it.

In a few more cycles, the only people left will be lifetimers.. unless they give us something to do past RA5.

Replies that haven't even looked at the status of the person posting never cease to amuse me.

I have a lifetime subscription. Sheesh.

You can do any of the fleet actions now. They're all level appropriate.

However, for some reason, nobody at Cryptic seems to have played them. Otherwise, they'd probably have notice that, at RA5, getting a Mk. VI personal shield as a reward isn't real helpful. In fact, considering I just saved DS9 from an army of Cardasians, it's sort of insulting.

No Perks for anyone but Lifers!

Come on ... are you guys crazy ... you think anything you suggest will be enough for the regular subscribers?

They don't care that your here fighting for them to have some perks. And they wouldn't care if they got lesser valued perks. Stop wasting your time.

This isn't high school ... lifer / reg sub ... neither is more or less cool ...

if you start down this road then I want the Walmart 500 skill points even though I purchased at Bestbuy.
its just fluff ... if you want the fluff do what is required to get it ... become a lifer or goto Walmart

Plain and simple ... no need to waste Devs time on stuff that will not be appreciated anyways.

I was just hoping for you to give me a reply that rubbed my monthly subbing face in your preferred status. You did not disappoint. I appreciate the italics around have. I could almost hear the derision in that.

Veteran Rewards are one of the better ideas in MMO's in my opinion. Great way to 'thank' people for sticking around.

Though much like the lifetime perks, Veteran rewards should only be cosmetic in my opinion. In fact I haven't seen anyone putting up ideas for non cosmetic Veteran Rewards.

    I do believe I'm rambling.

In short, I like the idea.

No I believe that was me highlighting your inability to read. I don't need any preferred status to spot that. Then again, you're clearly trolling, so, I can't say I really care.

I'm not trolling, but if you really think I am you should head to the Captains Table and order a Cryptic staffer to do something about it. If you let the riff-raff backtalk you openly, they'll get more uppity next time. You need to nip this stuff in the bud.

On-Topic: Veteran status is stupid. I'm voting no once my people get suffrage.

Well to be fair, neither do I. However, the massive number of now-deleted threads that erupted last night rather implied that some people do care. I am merely proposing a solution if Cryptic feels that that warrants some attention.

I think a Vet status is cool, but the game hasn't been out long enough for Vets yet if you want to go by a Vet being someone that sticks around for a long time. At 1 year plus I can see someone getting a Vet status since that's the length of the longest recurring sub.

I agree with this and would also like to note that CoX introduced a Veteran Rewards Program a while back and you still have people complaining that they "have to wait to get stuff" and want to be able to just purchase the perks without putting the required time in.

All in all, I like the Vet Rewards program there and wouldn't be against STO implementing something similar.

I don't get all this. It's just blue names!

I don't get why some people behave as if they have been knighted, while others are jelous at it. It's just a colour really.

I don't care what colour my name is in and if Cryptic would have know what circus is going on here because of blue names, they probably would have never done it.

If any of the Life Time Subscribers think he/she is soemthing special because his/her name is listed in blue and if he/she things that's worth 300$, well okaaaay then.
I'd rather enjoy the Captains Room to be honest.

And everyone who is complaing about the Life Time Subs getting Blue names, well if it hurts so much go and spend 300$.

I really hope this childish behaviour of some ends soon.

Coming back to Veteran Rewards. I think they might do only more harm looking at the STO community right now.
So Veteran Rewards only for non lifers then? Or for all? You see new conflict potential. I honestly think it's too early to talk about Veteran rewards anyway.

Sadly, there is no satisfying some people. They *live* to stir up discord.

I think that it's great that the lifetimers got some nice perks, especially since, post-launch, a new lifetimer could only look forward to spending an extra $60 without benefit of any perks.

I'm glad that someone is advocating for Veteran's Rewards, since *my* thread was only met with derision by the trolls, who buried it with their incessant QQ'ing.

A nice little perk every 3 months would be a wonderful gesture to remind month-by-month subscribers that they're appreciated. I think that such a reward should be available to all strata of subscriber, as long as they stayed subscribed for a 3-month period.

For instance, a month-to-monther who subscribed for 4 months, then took a couple of months off, should have to stay in-game for an additional 2 months in order to get the 6-month Veteran's Reward.

I don't expect the Veteran's Reward program to go into effect for a while, given that the Devs & their teams are hard at work preparing the material on the calendar, but it would make a great Christmas gift. ;)

Oh, give this one time yet :D

More seriously, I wouldn't anticipate any actual movement on this subject for a while either. It just struck me as a potential nice thing for Cryptic to announce to assuage some of the more vocal critics, if they so desire.

I heard they have perks for LOTRO players as well. This is new for some people to see titles and special area perks that weren't earned in game.

I'm not against Vet rewards, but I dont support them for the REASON you do. People who are so immature as to throw a fit about the color of a persons forum handle(whether for or against) are ALWAYS going to be immature. Vet rewards have nothing to do with that. So sure, add vet rewards. But dont kid yourself as to it suddenly making an immature person behave better.

This is what makes the raging so hilarious.
