When STO's Lifetime subscription was first announced, I have to admit I was a little bit disappointed. Having followed them through the beta of Champions Online and into launch, I knew they had offered quite a few awesome perks for Champions Online lifers... the list was quite long. So I was in particular a little bit miffed at the the 2 additional slots and Borg character only offering for STO.
HOWEVER, I have to say I never really expected Cryptic to come back and add so many other lifetime subber perks after the fact. I mean it was really "unnecessary", because by this time, us lifers had probably gotten over the rather small list of perks. BUT, they did it ANYWAY, with the badge, the tag, the forum color, and the Captain's Table.
SO, everyone weigh in -- has Cryptic gone above and beyond with these additions? Or are you still yearning for the list of perks to be a bit longer?

Just being offered the ability to have a lifetime sub after launch was enough satisfaction for me. I do regret not being able to get in on the preorder perks but like I said just being able to get a lifetime and it was still within my budget was enough for me. Now that Cryptic is adding perks for all Lifetime subs is awsome. The title alone is worth it's waight in gold to me. To me Cryptic has gone above and beyond to make sure that the STO comunity as a whole and not just the lifers get a game we want to play for years to come.
I got the LTS for the savings but it's nice to know that the guys @ Cryptic decided to do something special and designed this stuff on their own time which in itself has more meaning than the end result. Something to be appreciated.
There is still only one last lifetime(and some veteran perks too) I hope Cryptic sees fit to add. It was really the only lifetime perk I was hoping they would have added, since us lifers did not get the free 30-days others got. A $15 Cryptic C-Store credit or 1200 Cryptic points($15) worth of C-Store items. I explain in more detail in my below thread.
What makes me happy is knowing that Cryptic added those things to say 'thank you' to those who showed enough faith to make a long term investment in them. Its a doubly nice gesture since they did it on their own time so it didn't take away from the normal hours spent developing. Thats time they could have spent with their families etc. Pretty nice gesture.
The actual perks in question didnt matter in comparison to that. I never had a problem with the original LT sub bonuses, and never felt they owed us anything more than a great game in the years going forward.
Im trying to figure out what was " lousy " about the lifetime sub rewards in the first place.......
But at least people that spent the money probably feel nice and toasty about it now. Which is good.
I know. Especially after all I've sacrificed to get a LS. I was on open beta but didn't think I could afford one and buckled down and made it work. I'm glad I've been given the opportunity to show my devotion with pride. It makes all that I sacrificed to save and buy a LS all the more worth while.
I appreciate the perks, they make me feel a bit excited indeed. And it's a good feeling that my faith (and its just that; as seen from my other posts I still have quite some issues with the game) is appreciated by cryptic. It really gives me the impression that we alltogether will bring this game to where no MMO has been before
I was happy enough with the extra slots and Borg playable character but the extra stuff just added is great too. I think they are doing a good job of keeping lifers happier but i just wonder if it has a negative effect on monthly players.

Up until today, buying LTS after beta had no perks. You spent $300 for 2+ years of access (2 assuming the doom-and-gloomers are right and this game reaches a premature end-of-life) and that's it. Incentivization of the purchase helps a little bit to sway players who were on the fence about buying it. You can give me all of the jingoistic talk about the community, developers or the IP as you like, but it's still true: Lifetime Subscription is always a risk. I may get my value out of it, I may get bilked out of it.
I made the decision for myself and I bought it after reaching Commander rank before any mention of the perks were made. Not that I feel special about that fact or anything, it just made financial sense to me considering how much I pay (or have paid for) on three other active MMO's (CoH, Aion, DDO pre-Unlimited) and two that went south (Warhammer... and I don't care what ridicule this draws... I actually liked Tabula Rasa.)
They made the Captain's table Off the Clock.. basically people stayed at work to make this without being paid, on their own time.
It did not cut into Production time.
And that's what makes it all the more awesome in my mind.
Right from early beta, despite the bugs, I said I'd go for a lifetime sub. As soon as it was announced, I grabbed it.
Those that whine that they didn't decide soon enough, tough. I took a risk, got a lower price and a borg captain, and now all these other nice things. That's the reward for the risk.
I didn't need anything else, i invested to help the game and because i want it to succeed.
Its as great gesture they did it for us on their own time though.
I got it the moment it was announced, and i don't regret it.
Im now confident i can play when i want to.
I have university worries, so ive not been able to play. I would have had to cancel my sub had i not gone for life, because i just dont have the time to play, and wont be able to for at least another month or two.

noone ever tells me anything
But the bonuses are nice, and I'm happy with them. Won't ever complain about something handed to me
Follow the instructions on the news article on the main site page to learn how to do that.
Nah you're not an idiot. I asked the same thing earlier today. Congrats on your lifetime!

I agree that the Captain's Table looks great. I just wish that they'd spent that time and effort on new mission content instead.
