You know, sometimes I get the feeling people are being paid to compliment things in this game. Especially when they start complimenting things that are obviously sub-par...I mean, really?

"especially extra character slots so i can play every race and profession"

    Is this serious?

MOST MMO's give you a half dozen (or more) character slots from the get go, *without* making you pay for them. You know, a quantity that would easily allow you to have 3 fed AND 3 klingons? For free?

And you "applaud" them specifically for this?

Wow, seriously....talk about basement dwelling expectations/standards.

The game has come along way from Open Beta, and I do like allot of the weapons and gear for ships and crew alike. But they still have allot of things they need to approve upon as a whole.

You know they did do a few things right and I'm willing to give the kudos on that (Now i can go back to my klingon) but having to pay for extra character slots in a game that already gave you way too few? Who's ever idea that was needs to be fired.

    Most everything eles, good job.

 Gezz, Nice sentiment... get over it already...

Final Fantasy XI Online: one slot with the account, and you pay extra per slot per month. Thank you for the onetime buy-in Cryptic! Lifetime + 2 optional = 7 slots... and it's just the first expansion. :)

That "Captain's Table" system.. both in ship, and inside the station, are just absolutely gorgeous work. Really, the way the comets cast their trails, and the streaking stars, and the beautiful lighting.. God I could just sit there for hours looking at it.

It's a shame that non-lifers can't see it. But perhaps it bodes well for future creations. Really some amazing content coming off the bench at this point.. I can't wait to see what's to come.

Well, it looks like you might have missed some English lessons at Starfleet Academy, you could take all that extra time waiting for Cryptic and focus your attentions there. ;)

Calm down, I was just playing with you.

It takes time to implement changes - and there are hundreds of people asking for thousands of changes. You may think you're entitled to a team of 2000 developers working 24 hours a day for your "30$ a month", but unfortunately you're not. I think they're doing a bang up job so far - people need to calm down, get some perspective, and keep supporting them so they can grow the game out - which will take some time.

ya agreed on some but....do they even have 2000 developers on this game fell more like 20 or 30 ppl on it

That being said, I demand flying ponies in the game.

Seriously, I want my entire crew to ride on the back of a giant mutant star pony. Obviously this is a good idea and I'm surprised the devs haven't done it already - stellar equine have been a key focus of Star Trek for a good 200 years.

SWG gave you ONE single charater slot per server (at launch through to the TRIBBLE NGE). Sure you can argue you could have a character on each server but that was just lame. EVE online allows you only (or last I was on it) 3 per account and only one of those could train (skill up) at a time (as of launch to the last I played). If memory serves EQ2 only gave 5 or 6 slots at launch... not nearly enough to cover every class let alone every class/race combo. I would not say most, I would say its about half, but then that is ALWAYS a complaint I see on forums to a new MMO, not enough slots for charaters... which is really very comical seeing as the game is new, play with what you have first you know?

    Oh goodness.

Anyway - just give them some time and keep supporting them - this game is quite a lot of fun, and has some serious potential to be amazing in the long run.

SWG: If i can recall, you (before the changes) could respec to any 'class' that you want (Or train for it) so you wouldent really need a ton of alts anyway.

EvE: you can have three characters per account, however only one can be training at a time. Its also kinda a 'free skill' game meaning you can get any of the skills you want provided you want to spend the time to learn them, alts actually HURT you to have them, unless you had more than one account.

STO: Three profs, (Three slots minimum) then there is klingon side which also has three profs (That would be three more) not counting any other 'factions' they decide to put in (Like romulans). Given how fast and easy it is to level in this game, and no real time sink at end game (since everythings on a timer) the only thing really left is farming, rp, and making alts.

5 or 6 would have been fine. and they would have *STILL* made money off selling character slots.
Also EQ2 is alot longer to level than this game, so 5-6 slots would tide anyone over for a while.

Edit: only WoW seemed to get the idea that starting off with a fair amount of slots was a good thing, though i have played alot of F2P games that had more slots starting off than this game does. Not a crack at the game, just annoys me that it started off with low slots, and when players complained about it, instead of adding a slot or two, they choose to sell them in the store.

actaully, i remimber quite a few games that didnt allow many charactor slots, Starwars galaxies being one example.

I must say that I too am very pleased with the job they have done and are continuing to do... I have never seen a completely "faultless" game, but I have also not seen many developers pay as much attention to the "fans" as Cryptic has. They have alot of stuff coming down the pipe so lend them some support and let them do their thing...

I too played SWG, at least until the CU. Using it as a comparison is problematic, especially when you do not also point out the drastic differences in mechanics.

    1) SWG - 1 character *per server*, 2 if you unlocked the Force Sensitive slot. Primary reason for this was the factional nature of SWG (Rebel vs Imperial), they didn't want people making one of each on the same server (for good reason).

    2) As stated in point 1, it was per server. With multiple servers you had the ability to have multiple characters.

    3) Any character can assume an profession at any time. If you were bored with your current choice of professions, you had the ability to completely scrap your build and try a new one. This made alts far less useful.

So, simply saying "But SWG only allowed ONE!!!" is flawed at best, disingenuous at worst.

Most MMO's "get better" over time. That's the nature of MMO's.

I prefer a game that's frequently patched to a stagnant one. For example, Aion was pretty much the same 2 months after release as it was in beta. That was the major reason I left- it felt like a "dead", or static game.

Aion was, well no, NCSoft is a joke, as it was the mmo I spent most time on immediately prior to STO I make my comparisons to that company. There are a few things that get me worried about cryptic and STO, how ever bad it gets I just look at where I have been and thank the lord that so far they are not as bad as NC. That said this game is still very very fragile at best and content is very very thin. I worry about the late trend of monthly sub and cash shop, it's just not right.

When I see some dev posts I feel for them as they are quite obviously trying to do the right thing but I can't not think that greed has gotten the better of the people who should have been more patient and put more in before taking out. At the moment the fact NCSoft were so bad is the only reason, for me, that I am still hanging in and hoping this will get better.
