cannon vs beam array

Hi
So now I can use (single) cannons on my cruiser

I look at their stats... they make less dps than a beam array and have a smaller arc (180deg vs 250deg)

So what's the advantage of those single cannons? They use less energy?

    Actually while they have less damage per hit, if you look at the same level beam vs cannon the cannon does more dps because it fires faster. The smaller the firing arc the more Dps it does, so dual beam arrays do more dps than canons because they only have a 90 degree firing arc.

    Which is a huge advantage for now.

    Though FBP may be changed to effect ALL energy weapons soon.

    Where are you getting that information? Link?

    I think I have read the latest in release notes and engineering reports. Sounds like you are making some assumptions.

    Tribble Forums, I believe one of the Devs mentioned it in suggested changes to subnucleonic beam, viral matrix and feedback pulse.

    Can we please have it renamed to Corbomite Reflector or something as well?

    Because the name really doesn't fit it if it gets changed like this anymore. Not that I'd be averse to the change, mind.

    Canons also get access to the rapid fire bridge officer ability.
    If all of the cannon volleys hit an unshielded section, it's like a free early level torpedo spread.
    At least, that's how I've been using it.
