You know, I was looking back on what elements I LOVED from other ST games. Imagine this. STO focuses on text popup mission/quest screens, Well hate to say it, I ignore them in WoW and any other game that did it. It doesnt ENGAGE me to the story or the task at hand. So Ill explain what I do like more which I think would help in STO.
Lucasarts style adventure games, Even ST TOS, TNG and so that was Point and click adventure. The text came on the screen from the person. Well change that to STO. "Hail from Starfleet Captain!" "On Screen" Then on the screen itself you see the person giving you the mission. You see the text a lil more realistically. Or in person.
FFXI, D&D Online had something too. DD had a speaker doing the missions, FFXI was more of a cutscene or text in person. It felt awesome and engaging. You wanted to see whats next.
Now I know STO is getting new content, maybe it could be possible to try to add some elements that feel more direct to read. I wouldnt mind spending a few mins reading a convo, or where I feel my Captain or even crew get involved with talking about a mission or task at hand. It would be almost like watching a series or playing the ST adventure games. (Plus its a extra bonus away from the battle, as its focusing the delivery of the story/task at hand)
What does everyone else think? Could this be a good idea? Or do you disagree and just like the plain popup box. I just think STO would do well with a more engaging delivery method for quests and missions and add some BO interaction to those events to make it feel like your more a part of things and that your crew is too.

(Hell could even make it race wise convos, a Klingon BO may respond about a mission diff then a Ferengi would)
Comments?
Edit: Examples: FFXI - From Wings of the Goddess, I know you cant see the text part of the story, but you can see the cutscene, very gripping. STO would be cool to have some like this.

World of Warcraft had key cutscenes too at Wrathgate.

(Will add more examples or if anyone else has some too)
Better example is from FFXI Star Online Brigade! Where this was just a quest, but you felt ALOT more into the story, Your char was a part of it, and you still had your quest given to you.

DDO - Using Narrative to give us our info.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vHtzOAWBxBw (I loved this and it made it FUN doing the quests)
I ask if you have something you like too, find a example and post it like I did the videos. SHOW them what you want. I just know STO really could use something to make me go after each mission/quest just because I WANNA see how the story unfolds, progresses, or share a laugh at the fun quests. (Imagine Q showing up for a quest, a cutscene follows, next you know, your in one of Q's games, the mission plays out normally, pew pew, and once you complete it, cutscene ends it)

I would like it. It would make the game a lot less "pew pew" and a good way to bring in diplomacy and such. Or at least make the game more interesting, like that mission where you have to make a choice between different standpoints.
and cutscenses forced you to press <accept> to continue onto the next dialog then eventually into either the end of the objective or the start of a battle.

if this was implemented for Rebecca and concuring STF/Raids id have loved winning soo much more(also boss music helps over the standard battle music.
The disjointed, disconnected mission dialogue popups are one component to this but they're certainly not the whole picture. The fragmented nature of space is one, the heavy reliance on instancing and randomly generated content is another. There aren't many permanent areas out there where players can go visit and find that one hill they know about with a great view of a lake, or whatever else might be out there. What few permanent areas exist in the game are choked with NPCs who might as well be mannequins or golems for as much interaction as they offer.
A lot of this is a core part of the game's design and isn't likely to change. Without a dramatic overhaul of the game's engine, for instance, we'll never be able to seamlessly approach a solar system, select a planet, glide into orbit around it and then beam down to the surface. It's always going to be pizza boxes and loading screens, which eradicate any sense of one area being connected to another.
Mission cutscenes would be wonderful to see, and we know they're possible since Champions Online had them. They're not easy to make, however - at least, not easy to make well. They require storyboard artists, an author, an editor... people who understand story structure, pacing, how to create dialogue that evokes an emotional response. It's not easy, and I don't think the STO team actually has the resources to hire the people they'd need to do it right.
I hope it's a question of resources. The alternative is that they just don't care to do it right (or don't understand how wrong it is right now), and that's not something I want to think about.
So imagine this, If you visit your bridge, You can TALK to your BOs which will comment about current missions and quests your currently doing. I know its just simple stuff, but a good BO could offer a "tip" or insight to something or just comment in general. That alone would be a start to making us feel connected to our BOs and get some insight or random comments on our missions.
