I couldn't turn away from the current price point of the game at my local gamestop so i decided to pick it up. I see great things ahead for this game and if not well hey, OH WELL. I know i was the one to buy Age Of Conan when it came out originally that was just horrible. Now everybody is crawling back slowly and will do so even more when the expansion comes out, becaues the game has changed hands so many time and different types of management has taken place the game has improved immensely. The same can be said for this game.

This is probably the most solid cryptic game out there, so i figure what the hell. All they can do is add more to it. So here's to greatness or potential greatness hell even Average. Because I'm so sick and friggin tired of playing WOW it makes me sick

full T10 gear and nothing left to do other than wait for an expansion that will never come.

Yeah, wow gets very boring. It is a good game and all, and I will admit I played it since it released up until 5 months ago. I loved it to begin with, but each expansion seemed to take something away from it, made it less exciting...

I do enjoy STO though. It's not quite there content wise and challenge wise, but I also feel it has the potential, and I am loving the difficulty of the new mini-raids :)

And Cryptic has many, many plans for additional content as time goes on, and seem to be putting a lot of effort into making this game better :)

    Anyway, Welcome! :D

I'll say hello and tell him not to expect near the game he just got bored with in WoW. There isn't a quarter of the content in STO that there is in WoW. You can blow through this game, very casually in a month or so.
And when you reach max level you really hit a brick wall.

No crafting, nothing to do but a couple of dailies.\

Not trolling, not lying. Being honest to the new guy.

The brutally honest truth unfortunately. Still Cryptic do seem to be putting in more effort to pump out content than most MMO's do, the Game shows potential, 6 months from now should present a game that can stand on its own.

I'm not looking for something ground breaking and honestly crafting in WOW never really interested me hell all i really did to pass as i waited the 30 or so minutes to get an ICC 25 group going. was fish.

I've been playing WOW since the day it was launched and I'll be the first to say that game had nothing but problems it was plagued with random bugs disconnection issues literally no content outside the 4 main end game dungeons. NO community events i mean the list goes on and on.

i could go all day what wow didn't have 5 years ago. But see when WOW hit the market we were all coming from Ultima Online. A game that still after over 9 years is still going somewhat steady. Aside that point there wasn't much competition so WOW was able to trump just about everybody in a short amount of time. Then when it got to the top it stayed there because unfortunately no company out there has time to spend 7 + years developing an MMO anymore. They put as much into it as they can polish it up to the best of their ability and put it out on the market.

You think The new Star wars MMO coming will have what WOW has? NO its impossible. Hell i think it'll have even less because they keep toting around the stage how they have all the NPC's voicing their dialog. Woop de friggin do. I don't need my NPC's to verbally talk to me but something tells me that for the first few months that's about the only saving grace that game will have.

Anyway, I'm hopeful for this game and i think it has lots of promise so as i said before here's to a great game down the road.

the amount of effort they are putting into this game is what made me buy it, well that and the sale price. BUT regardless of the fact i've been leaning more towards it lately. They have a wide open line of communication it seems with the community and they are trying their hardest to put a ton of content in. Which is more than i can say for WOW. its the same TRIBBLE.. all they do on these newer "content patches" is they change some things around add a few new features that are nice but who cares really. and call it a day.

Nobody here has even mentioned that when the Wrath of the Lich king came out as an expansion until 2 patches ago.. there was no friggin lich king. BECAUSE HE DIDN'T exist. they hadn't even created the content that the expansion was about. that made me lol for awhile because blizzard seems to get a pass at lacking in the content area. nobody sees that

Welcome. The devs in this game are awesome. I like their honesty on a number of issues and their transparency in their struggle on difficult issues as well. My fleet mate are really great. The game is great until you hit admiral I hear, so I am trying to level as slowly as I can. Hopefully by then new content will be out.

I've been here from the start and I'm no where near RA5. I think there are wildly varying definitions of "casually". I think if you play several hours a night and on the weekends, you may be moving past "very casually" and into "part-time career" territory. :)

On a side note, I did start more characters to try other fields and that has slowed my pace considerably. But I have no intention to see how fast i can burn content. I also enjoy the fleet engagement, and I'm sure those aren't the fastest way to get exp.

BTW, welcome to STO Lockster. I hope you enjoy the voyage !!

STO has no endgame to speak of (seems the pattern for Cryptic games), but since I'm a casual player (unlike when I was playing WoW), it'll be a long, long time before the lack of an endgame becomes an issue for me. Until then, I'm having a gas, despite some of the game's warts. This is the first game since "A Final Unity" to really make me feel like I was in the Star Trek universe!

and your buying a LT sub here?

    Oh boy.....
I played WOW 5 years, I'm sick of it too, but if you think wow was light on content your gonna be sorely disappointed here.

You can Hit cap in less than 80 hours gametime, pretty much if your doing anything but sitting in a station.

Not to knock you, but 80 hours into 30 days is still 2.67 hours per day. I stand by my statement that there are widely varying definitions of casual. Just sayin :)
