What's the point..? Why keep playing?

SystemSystem Member, NoReporting Posts: 178,019 Arc User
well now that i reached lvl 45 and i don't get more skill points and the respec is kinda BS. i really do not see why i should keep playing? pvp is way too unbalanced and nothing for casual gamers without a fleet.

i realy don't get it, what is left to play for, is there something i am missing? anyone

Asside from...well yeah once you've done everything you no longer get any gains except for BO skill points. And money to buy nothing because you can't spend money on the gear since it takes various marks, and that lead guy interview link states they think this is the way it should be, and he doesn't want the level cap increased so there we have it...

nothing to do once you do the new missions except for quit playing and just come back every now and then, inspiring ain't it.

Of course you could farm missions for marks to say get antiproton weapons to have +borg dmg, BUT wait! Once they release say Undine then you replace those for + Undine weapons and throw away all the skill points you just dumped into antiproton for something new, and just repeat this over and over and over.

One would think they would have thought ahead and instead made it so you can enhance +various damages on the weapons to keep making you more powerful but what I get from the design is it's 1 step forward and 1 step back.

Or you could role another toon, if you want the smae content again.
Or you could role Klingon if you REALLY like star cluster missions.
Just remember if you DO like the game and want more then three characters they want you to pay extra for that, lol

STO got me to get Eve, and while my STO sub wont be renewing (was waiting to see if this patch made any difference...it hasn't), my Eve sub will most likely be active for quite some time (at least until SWTOR releases).

Eve is a FAR better sci-fi MMO than STO.

The point of playing it is that it is fun. If you do not think that it is fun, then how on earth did you make it all the way to RA5 in the first place?

Funny,.... i thought about getting a EVE Account for years,.... than STO comes out and i got this,.... yesterday out of boredom i made an Eve Account :).

I guess i let my STO Sub run for another month or two and play Eve while they improve this one here,.... and if they dont improve,. well the Cancel Button is always there :).

In the meantime i try to make a good PVP ship in Eve and head out to bash the less fortunate than me,... crushing there ships to make them miserable all the way with the heavy death penaltys there,... GREAT Dont you think! :).

Dude, there are things to do with your 45 - especially if you like team play like infected and PvP. But yeah, with the VERY limited number of toons, it gets boring real quick for people who like to work the toon and not just play the high level toon.

Hopefully they'll role out more TF's that can be played at other levels to unlock other items/perks/accolades with a bonus - but have to wait and see. I have high hopes for this game, and see it having a long life if they get there act together and understand that nickel and dime the monthly subs is gonna PO a lot of the monthly subs.

Played EnB and jumped to EVE when EA gave it the axe.

EVE is awesome in the grfx dept - but really no fun unless you're a sadistic individual who thrives on reigning havoc on others. But man, do the visuals snap to life in that game... That, they have no equal...

STO is more like EnB - it's designed to have fun and enjoy the thrill of the game, not other's misery - yeah it's content lite atm - so was EVE, EnB and others in the beginning.

To each their own, but I see STO succeeding down the road... ;)

Only an idiot 'loses everything', sorry...but I don’t fly what I cant afford to replace, and I insure what I am flying. I also keep my clone updated. I haven't been podded yet, but I have had my ship destroyed in PvE, trust me it's not that big of a deal (and certainly not the end of the world you make it out to be).

    lol...

Aye, I jumped into a Thorax *way* too soon. Never lost it, but really didn't have the skill to make proper use of it. Besides, I was running level 1s in it...lol

Learned my lesson, and made sure I had the skills in place to make maximum use of my Myrmidon *before* I purchased it. Of course, those make crazy armor tanks, so levels 3s in it feel almost as easy as level 1s did in the Thorax...sigh

Although I am a huge Star Trek fan, I hate to admit that once reaching RA45, the shows over.

I jiust played "THe Big Dig", achieved 2nd place out of 40 or so players, and I got a green Mk IX full auto disruptor for my time investment.

Yes, the first 5 minuts was nice, but I like to be rewarded for my trouble, thats why I play games and PAY for them.

Considering the crisis, it would be almost as forthfilling to just daydream I did it and save 2 hours of my time, same reward, less money.

Come on Cryptic, charge me 30 dollars a month, I don't care, just keep me entertained with REAL cool stuff die hard Trek fanns want to do/have/achieve.

Listening is not mandatory btw, but neither then is banking this game will generate enough for you guys to keep considering this your job. If you Devs love ST as much as fans like me, anty up the monthly subs and invest the extra turnover in what we want, and more importantly, on-demand.

We are the on-demand generation and are willing to pay for it, get it Cryptic...?

Not just that, although the game is only a good month old, there does seem to be a certain gap in content when compared to other MMOs when they were of the same "age". Is it because STO was rushed? Is it because the devs can't cope with it? Or are we too "demanding"? Can't really say but like many other people I was expecting a LOT more of the fabled 45 day patch. I'll keep my sub running until the next big patch but if it isn't better then this one then I'm kissing STO farewell also.

Side note: Seems there's a LOT of bugs in this patch as well. Timers not resetting, ships getting stuck after coming out of DSEs, beam weapons still bug out for some people, ...

I am an old EnB player, so this is great to me. I like the ideal to leveling up fast and farming for better weapons/items. I also like the content to be updated once a month once the issues get solved.

    *snerk*

I re-subbed to lotro too... but in all honesty, I was going to anyway, not because STO is somewhat subpar... and definitely below subpar if you play KDF.

You're not missing anything, and I think those of us who are still playing after hitting RA 5 are doing it in the hope that we'll see more stuff to do, and hopefully sooner than later. For me, I don't need to get an awesome purple epic item from a fleet action, I just want fun stuff to do. I rather LIKE the fact that end-game gear does not throw the game out of whack, like in WoW. I want them to come up with more episode quests too, but I know those take time to write and craft, like the excellent State of Q mission. Should they work on stuff like that, which will only get played once? I'd prefer to see more and varied repeatable content.

This is the first game where "grinding" doesn't even feel that bad to me, because I am flying a starship and I'm running hectic ground battles with phaser fire all over the place. I'm cool with that, I just think we need more ways to do it at max level. I plan to stick around for the sake of the game, but obviously not forever. I think in another month or two, there will be more content for RA's. Today I ran Starbase 24 again, it was scaled to my level, and I even got the ground mission too. That kind of thing is fun as heck, I can do that for a while.

one thing i am noticing is alot of angry threads about the patch lol why are people so surprised? Cryptic in a word sucks. They have no idea what people want and no idea how to make a game fun. Their all about taking your money and giving you small portions back enough to keep you playing but not enough to keep you interested. Their engineering reports are horrid and their ideas for "content" are stupid. I wish they would fire all the devs on the team hire some people that have actually watched star trek and go from their.. bet we could make a game 10x better then this in half the time. Heck I bet we could build an engine and not use an old one like hey did. oh here comes the "you dot know nothing about this business rant" sorry I am a computer science master I work in optics and military projects with programming i have to come up with new engines and variables for military hardware every few months. If these guys worked with the group I did they would have been fired a long time ago.

Currently, there is nothing... well, I take that back... there is a lot of lip service about fixing what's wrong with the game but even the recent magic patch seems sorely lacking still.

I don't like the idea of the C-Store and other games that have something like it. It seems they put more time into what they can add to it and get more money insted of putting stuff in game.

Like you want to have this ship give us more money, you want to respec give us more money, you want this outfit give us more money ect. It kind of makes me sad. I remember the good old days you bought a game and the devs put work into making the game better so you would keep your account paid. Now it seems lets suck what we can from them as quick as we can and forget the game.

    Nail. Head.

Dont get me wrong, i love the game. Its fun to play. However..... It is half finished, poor klinks still have no content, still lots of bugs. Yet Cryptic feel its ok to CHARGE us for extras....i mean WTF?

personally i can understand why they did the c store but what i thought is pretty stupid is they put a fed ship there which looks medicore at best i usto be apart of a mod team we made better ships then that one i recon that if cryptic made a contest make your ship then mod teams can make there ships and send them to cryptic and then put the 10 best ships together and the the people vote and then if one gets in

but from what i have seen the latest update it was too soon wasn't checked and some how it ****ed up the crits as in they changed the crit to hit chance and the crit damage which makes all escorts and bops and raptors over powered sometimes i think they **** this game up on purpose

the content in the patch is lacking klingons get 4 new skins one for each T5 class ship as in raptor vo quv and bop and a T2 cruiser and some pve content

ohh and then there is the no respecs for max lvls from what i have heard
