By accident a couple of weeks ago, I ran into something that allowed you to save the physical traits of your character into a text doc or something similar so that if you wanted to create a new character in a new slot or something you could just import these traits and save yourself the trouble of doing it all again.
But, for the life of me I can't find it now. Searched the forums, searched google, can't find it. Did I dream it or something? I'd love to back up my character so if something does go awry or if I decide I want to be a klingon one day I don't have to spend the two hours and constantly bug my wife with the "does this look like me" questions.
Also, does today's patch allow for more customization? I really want my avatar to look exactly like me, but I couldn't get there because of the software limits. Should I bother trying again, or should I wait for season 2?
When you are creating your character or editing its costume at one of the starbases there is a button at the bottom of the screen that says Save. Click that and it automatically saves your character into the screenshots folder which is located in the main STO game folder. If you ever want to load it again you simply click load and you'll see a list of all the ones you saved. Choose the one you want and it loads. Make sure that the faction and the species is the same. So if you saved a Federation Alien you can't create a new Klingon Gorn character and load it.
IMPORTANT! Make sure you don't rename the file. It is a but annoying to keep the default name but renaming it causes problems.
I appreciate the response, but it's not exactly what I was asking...
I mean to export the settings into a text file, such as height 6'4", shoulders all the way broad, hair style none, that sort of thing....
This way if I want to make a character in my second slot and have it look identical to the first I can just export settings from my first character and import them into my new character.
As far as I know there is no such thing. What I described is the closest thing to what you want and I see no problems with it. Since you want the 2nd character to be exactly like the 1st then simply use the Save/Load feature that I talked about, it'll do what you want except it won't use a text file, it uses a jpg file.

I can't believe I forgot about that. Yeah you can't do that either, thanks for pointing it out.

I hope I made more sense this time 'round.
