My ongoing problems

This will get buried with the multitudes of other spam of ideas and such and that's okay. I just want to voice two ongoing problems I have with the skills layouts and abilities.

My first problem was weapons, but I think my bigger problem is training officers. As an engineer I cannot train tactical or science skills to my crew even though I've put the needed points into the categories. This is somewhat understandable since "my specialty" is engineering. However, wouldn't it also stand to reason that after rigorous training I should be able to train my minions in those skills as well? If we put the points into learning a "can train if reach level nine" skill, we should be able to train our officers in it, regardless of profession.

Starship weapons.....

I can train phasers to level nine for what, 1800, 2700 points? (sorry, it's been awhile) Anyway, a mk x phaser does the same base damage as a mk x plasma/Tetryon and a mk x polaron/antiproton...... Why?
Perhaps a graduated scale? I'm thinking 2700 on phasers........so it's 3600 for tet/pla and 4500 of pol/ap.....perhaps then base ap damage should be 60% higher than base phaser damage. Some have argued that the way the game is set up that it is impossible to do. I propose then, that if it's unwieldy to "just" make it that way, have 2 versions of weapons. One in which the base damage is the same and you cannot use the second version and the second version for "skilled" captains.

I dunno, I feel strongly about both.

Your first complaint makes perfect sense and I totally agree with it.

The second one I think is due to the fact that the extra abilities on these weapons are supposed to be better as they go up in skill point costs.

I have come to think however, that they should re-do many aspects of the skill tree, such as the weapons, to make more of it available earlier rather than later, especially when things do not stack.

For example, anyone wanting to specialize in anti-P energy weapons will have to either waste many points in phasers first and wait, and then respec, or simply play gimped for a while.
