Seen this three times today with three random people, and once I realized what was up, left three different groups.
Open instance group, where the group leader puts it on Master Loot
...>.<
You only really get greens an batteries, but thats a damn annoying feature right there. Great way for a guy to be an TRIBBLE and get all the loot (albeit meager TRIBBLE, it just the annoyance factor that gets me.).
Werent the dev type guys trying to stop ppl from turning off the open instance thing? They should make it so you cant set loot other than group loot or roll loot for open instance type thing. Master loot should be like pre made group only
I never understood the " master loot " option in any game.
At all. Im sorry to see it here. But Im not surprised. It makes it very easy for someone to take all the loot.
Sometimes guilds will use it and its usually because the leader is in control and distributes what people get.
Regardless I think people on the team should have to accept any loot changes that are made. A prompt that pops up. If anyone in the group says no the looting will be default.
It would eliminate the problem without getting rid of the mechanic altogether.

It's all about the team settings. The team leader sets all that.
That being said, I don't see what the point of Master Loot is in any way. I don't understand it's usefulness in any way.

I propose a 2/3 vote to pass loot changes... Aliens count as 3/5 of a person

Its usefulness is so that a leader of a group whether it be a guild or otherwise is able to take control of the loot and distribute it to who needs it. Thus eliminating ninja looting. In theory.
But for all the problems it causes its totally not worth having. In any way shape or form. How did this become standard mmorpg stuff? Because it is. Its a horrible mechanic.

How would it solve ninja looting? As I understand it, NL is just swiping loot drops. Since this game assigns loot drops, Master Loot wouldn't solve that problem, since it isn't a problem to begin with.
Seriously, round robin and Need or Greed are all that's needed in this game.
It's useful, especially in pugs, if the Master Looter has any sense of fairness and ethics. It also helps if you group up to help someone get something specific from an instance. It helps limit the oops I hit the wrong button and it's a bind on acquire item.
Yea thats what its for and thats why its there.
I just think the group should agree on loot changes via an in game prompt. That way it leaves no confusion or room for taking advantage.
Yeah, but I can see where Master Loot would come in handy. If you are part of a fleet group it might be nice to assign one guy as the "loot guy" He carries all the loot while everyone else is left free to hang onto gear for later portions of the mission, STF, what have you. So if they changed it to a fleet group only feature I don't see how it would remain a problem.

Just.....have it so that when a change to the looting structure is made, the group has to agree by click OK on an in game prompt. Then it happens because everyone agrees.
No need to limit it. All loot options that are changed should be approved by the group.
Personal experience has me favoring Master Looter in specific cases.
Specifically when you are helping someone get something from a raid and it's a long raid run; you're only doing it to help a friend; everyone knows why we are doing it but people are tired; and it ends in oops.
Right, but in a random lfg type thing, which is the point of this thread, this isnt the case. I was in open instance, and the guy that was arbitrarily decided to be the leader had it set on ML and when asked tio change it, one case said "no, deal with it" so I left, the next guy said nothing, spo I left, and the third guy said something that looked to me like gibberish, that may have been a different language, but I dont know, as I only speak the one, and I left.
One of the main reasons I really hate the auto grouping option in this game.
I have not seen any noticable way to tell who exactly is the group leader, or what the loot setting is set to.
I started a new toon, and got auto grouped in one of my first out-of-Tutoral missions, and couldn't figure out what was going on, since I don't usually do groups on my main. I did notice the guy listed at the top was sitting on SOL, and the other guy that was actually in it with me never said anything.
It seems to me that the current game mechanic has just made it very easy for N.L.'s, Griefers, and gold-farmmers to take advantage of new players.
There needs to be an interface when the group is formed as to the loot setting, and wether they wish to remain in the group or not. At minimum show it in the display next to the group leaders icon as to what the loot setting is at.
till something happens I will just keep my setting at "Invite only", I won't play this game just to give away my fair share of the loot to griefers.

The gold farmers needed to reduce staffing levels.
So instead of 5 gold farmers you get one who sets Master Loot and reaps the rewards of 5 people working.

How about thats all thats really needed in any game including this one. I totally agree.
Fair enough. I just don't play anything else, and probably won't until Guild Wars 2 comes out.

Is that it SHOULD...
Cause it didnt tell me jack till I saw that guy start assigning himself loots

I meant that as a suggestion to the devs. Sorry if that was unclear.
