Suggestion: Sub-Missions

Sorry if these sorts of things belong elsewhere, I couldn't find a "suggestions" forum.

As a guy who cut his teeth on the likes of Mega Man, Contra, and Metroid, I'm always looking for ways and reasons to make a game more challenging. That said, I believe STO needs more of a reason for the player to stay alive. However, this game doesn't necessarily need a "Death Penalty" to make it more challenging.

Instead of punishing people for dying, what about rewarding people for staying alive? I know I'm usually among the crowd who thinks that we need some consequence for death, but I had an idea that I believe may work better for a lot of people:

Why not add "sub-missions" that require you to fulfill a challenging objective to current missions? We could have things like:

Complete mission without dying
Complete mission in under a set time
Defeat boss without damaging guards
Use no healing items
Use no "Exploit" attacks

Of course, the list could be much more varied and a lot more creative, but I just wanted to throw out a few examples. Rewards could be anything from energy credits to an exclusive, purple loot drop. No SP, though, because we already level fast enough.

With a system like this, casuals could keep the game as easy as they like and hardcores would have a reason to strive for perfection. Since mission repeats are coming up, it's not like you would have to worry about permanently missing something. Of course, the devs would have to limit the number of times you could complete a sub-mission with a character to keep it from being abused.

Any thoughts?

Anybody interested? I posted this late last night when not very many were on, so I thought I'd give it a bump to try to get input from the evening crowd.
