Currently there is no function to it, they were not fully prepped for release and were not even supposed to be in by then. Right now it is just a private social spot you can go to talk to your friends if you so choose. People have found various other uses for them as well.

At the moment it's purely cosmetic. I recommend you check out these:

    Upcoming Features
State of the game - 25/2/2010
State of the Game - 12/3/2010
    Engineering Reports

I'd also keep an eye on the Dev Tracker as there's often quite interesting tidbits buried there.

No functional bridges bugs me as well, but it's on their list.

You two forgot something. There's a way to view your bridge, at least. Bottom right of your mini-map, there's a little down arrow in a box. Click that. There'll be an option to Go to Bridge. You have to be out in free space, though... as in, on your ship and not in a mission.

Now one of the items that the Dev's have said their working on is 'Bridge Combat'... (All Hands, Stand By to Repel Borders!!!). So for future events, do you want cover to duck behind, or open fields of fire...

This would give it a more "Trek" feel since 70% of the episodes were conducted on board the Enterprise/Voyager/DS9 station.

Would be cool to "tour" your ship and play out "episodes" on onboard your vessel. But I would be happy just repelling enemy boarding parties on the bridge for now :D
