Could some one please point out to me, what part of this survey did the DP rank so highly in. Now its been repeatably stated that the devs are working on what the majority of people want first. In the two areas that included desired features by the majority of players who took the survey, it didnt even get 8% of the vote. Makes you wonder how low that figure really was, and why such a small group of people have convinced cryptic to add it.
Now it really doesnt matter if you want it or not, if cryptic keeps their word the DP is rated very low on the list of features they are prioritizing on. So my question is this, why is so much dev time being devoted to something that the players do not consider a priority? Why does it have a slated april release when other items on this list that rank much higher dont even have a glimmer of a release date?
I do not want your opinion on why, or why not to have a dp. There has been more than enough of that. This is more in the line of, do our opinions realy have much sway towards STO's future. Because in both sections of most desired features by the players who took the survey, there is not one item that has any kind of a future update associated with it.
Of course, all we can do is speculate. Only some one on the design team could actually clue us into the thought process of how new features get prioritized. From my seat, however, it doesnt seem to be from what the majority of players want.
Because if there's no DP, there's no risk. No risk, no fun. A DP is used in pretty much any online game for that reason, it also prevents suiciding as a viable tactic.
However when they use one, they need to fix DSE's so you don't warp in right in the middle of numerous enemy ships that will rip you apart.

DP makes the game more appealing to those who might be hold outs. Plus even if 8% are really adement about DP. If the DP is 90% of the reason they are playing. Then yes we need a death penalty. I want practice matches without the DP. But for anything serious a DP would be good. There not talking about actuallt loosing your entire ships and Captain. Just maybe something like a modul or credits. Or even some Exp. Like one level or something.
Please guys, do not make this a DP thread, the DP was only used an an example because it is the most visable example I could find.
The same thing might be true for other content. Im going to play Klingon. at some point. Even though its not first on my list for new contnet. I certainly want those who play it to have something to play for etc. The DP in my opinion is not that hard to change in the game. And it will be a lot of fun for those who want it!

You specifically asked about the DP. You made this a DP thread. You didn't say 'For example.' You said 'Could some one please point out to me, what part of this survey did the DP rank so highly in' and then proceeded to talk about nothing BUT the DP.

so, what part of this didnt you understand?

The most desired features will be implemented in Season 2. I suppose that this survey's purpose was made to plan the second expansion. They probably will have a team working on the big updates and meanwhile still release constant minor tweaks (auto holster, bug fixes, cosmetic items etc.). The DP will probably be minor, especially if it is optional so it fits in the minor tweaks category.

Thanks Delazure, exactly the kind of thought process I was looking for. I am sure there are others, would be very interested in hearing them.

Where is the suspense of not getting blown up? Why should I try not too? Why should I care?
I hope they keep it light though. I dont want a harsh death penalty.
