Card way too hot? need help.

I have been trying to find spec on how hot my video card can run, its an ATI Radeon HD 4600. When playing STO the cards temp jumps from 55c to 90c and above, with Rivva tuner (At fan max 100%) , also Speccy lists that temp as bright red which...cant be good.

Currently it hovers around 90-95c when playing, i cant say this is exactly good as any game Ive played before this never really went above 75c-80c with the fan maxed at 100%

Ideas?

As a general rule of thumb, 90% of the GPU's out there are not designed to go above 105 C.

As you know 100 C is the boiling point of water. Furthermore since all chips are silicon based, real damage starts at 110 C.

If your card is pushing 90 C, your probably have a small tower and the card is very close to another card like your sound card. I hate to say it but the only solution to lower your temp (the cheap way) is to remove the cover off the back of your PC. One guy I know bought a cheap $10 Fan at Walmart and has it blow directly into
    his rig.

I know all this because I slept in a Holiday Inn last night...

I'll try installing another fan to see if it helps, with 5 cats and 8 dogs leaving the compy open is just asking for it :P

You could try getting a piece of cardboard, poking a lot of holes, and taping it where your cover is suppose to be.

I use a 4850 ati and try to keep it around 75ish (any other game beyond 60 is rare), this is the only game that makes the card try to run hotter then I think it should. Or makes the fan run at a higher % then any other PC game I have played when they push a patch on and it causes this gfx card heating issues.

Ever since release I basically keep CCC up when I log on just to keep an eye on the temp. I don't have a clue what they are doing to because it, but it seems like from one patch or stealth patch to the next they are either fixing or breaking this card issue.

In the tech forum on the board there was a lot of talk about this, I dropped out of bringing up there because there is too high of a population on this board that give advice about the issue who have no clue at all on what they are talking about.

There is the link if you feel up to taking up the cause. Have fun explaining every other post every aspect of your PC, other games you play, what you use to monitor the temps, and everything else to people who have no clue what is going on in a tower, or temps, activity levels, fan speed, and ect should be.

Just FYI depending on your tower, and placement of components taking a side door off could actually make your card run hotter btw

Assuming you have the ability to put your fan at 100% all the time using riva tuner or other software i would suggest you get a better cooling fan, get a second cheap fan and point it into your comp, maybe move your comp to a cooler spot if its near a radiator ect.

don't forget to make sure your case is clean on the inside. we've had way expensive servers go dead from overheating just cause they were crammed full of fluffy dustbunnies on the inside, suffocating the airflow.
